I am 14. I am foreign. But I am human. And no human could listen to this mans voice and not feel a surge of feeling rushing to every single part of your body. I may not be wise in age. But I am wise enough to follow my feelings. And this music brought tears to my eyes. Please, do not stereotype my age group, for we are not all ignorant and naive. We are simply new.
anyone know what part of sleeping beauty this is from in the disney version? youtu.be/watch?v=U75HskGHDbE
just the beginning of course, but i cannot remember the rest of the song for the life of me and i want a listen now. (maybe it was in a different tchaikovsky ballet entirely?)
enjoy the song, and stop making twilight more popular by ranting on about it while the people who did come here because of twilight go on about it, they are probably buzzing like mad that you can't stop doing on about it, jeez, ok I READ REAL VAMPIRE BOOKS i listen to CLASSICAL MUSIC, ROCK N ROLL, ROCK, BLUES, ALTURNATIVE, HEAVY METAL, twilight is everywhere, just stop!
i learned bou the composer through vampire diaries but knew of the song before...in anycase i'm so glad the book reminded me!!!! :D I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS SONG!!! <3
I first heard this song in Tom Jerry, along with the Brahm's Hungarian Dance #5. That was when I was still 4. I still love listening to them until now.
@PanthereMauV Indeed, I too have noticed a stark rise in popularity of Debussy's music among youth. For when I've played beloved peices such as Clair de Lune and The Girl With The Flaxen Hair on the piano at family reunions, there's always a select few adolescents that sit and watch behind me, and can often name each composition! As you said, it is because of Twilight, I have not decided if it is a bad thing, I suppose the films do deliver tasteful, eclectic music to today's youth.
@ScarceOTatties Personally I don't think of Twilight as an intelligent film. It's a bad written love story that doesn't quite reflect the reality of what's love nowadays. Teenage girls fall in lovewith smthg that can't be & are totally mistaken about things concerning men. And above all, they decide they love Debussy, because their favourite and handsome character does too; they have no interest in music, for they don't try to listen to other composers. Same thing about Wuthering Heights.
@PanthereMauV While I completely understand your sentiments (I too am sick of hearing about Twilight -- did you hear about the Wuthering Heights cover that states it's Edward and Bella's favorite book?), I think it is unfair to pronounce judgment on an entire generation simply because some people may (or may not) discover the classics in music or literature through a modern means.
There are so many comments on other music youtube videos saying "I liked this before *insert pop culture reference to said song*" Sometimes I'm one of the people who has known it for years, but other times, I discover it for the first time through another medium. If some girls make discoveries through Twilight, isn't that better than nothing? Isn't it possible they will like it in its own right, and not because a (very creepy) vampire told them about it?
I mean, I discovered Tchaikovsky because I'm a ballet dancer. Mightn't one also say that since I discovered it through something, that it's not the same? Not that anyone would (I hope), because it's silly to think people won't discover things from other things (wow, vague I know).
I don't mean to get all internet bitch on you, I just wanted to argue in favor of the Twilight fans (I can't believe I just said that. What's happening?!). Anyway, goodbye!!
I have heard this a billion times before and until I saw Sleeping Beauty for the first time a few months ago I never realized it.. it's.. weird.. having heard this so many times and never giving it much thought and then boom it's suddenly important to me.
I can't help but think of the lyrics to this..whether they were put in later or not..because they match the sentiment EXACTLY. It's the most romantic tune ever.
The lyrics were a completely separate production by Walt Disney. They based their "tune" on this classical masterpiece. It's a completely different piece; obviously Tchaikovsky never had lyrics to a ballet.
I love Tchaikovsky, he's so brilliant, this and Swan Lake are excellent! Personally when I watch Sleeping Beauty I think Maleficent is the most beautiful woman in the whole movie! I love her, I wish she were my girlfriend. She's tough, but beneath that hard surface I think she's just some girl who wants to be loved. Too bad she's not real, oh well.
@Beerlejuice you're the first person i've seen to share my opinion on Maleficient. i fancy the woman, i'm sorry. i think even prince philip does a bit when she has him all chained up. haha.
A Waltz can be quite fast, especially when played as a concert piece like it is here. When played as a ballet, maybe slightly slower, would depend on the director/conductor. And for a public dance, would be slower. It all depends on context.
Wow!!! the best, I want to be the sleeping beauty; and only to wake up when my Prince kiss me, and take all the heartache and pain that I had in my life. I want to forget about my problems. What a beautiful dream it would be..........
It's a beautiful and famous waltz. The thing is that for the uncultured, they associate this music with Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty (1959) . Thanks to Disney who loved classical music, this gorgeous waltz was popularized. Maybe if it hadn't been for his idea of putting the Tchaikovsky ballet score in the movie, this music might not be as popular today
I love Tchaikovsky's music. Is so wonderful. His music is brimming with sensitivity. He is (although he died in 1893 his music is and will be alive) one of the greatest composers of all times.
@fat0nick but this I think this was the music was already used as accompaniment: they played at the USSR's funeral - ahahahah! you lost! and the Americans won! ahahahahahah!
Itmikepowel, most of the info we have about Russia is seen thru the English prism, perspective. L'Ermitage in St. Petesburg is a Palace, dwarfs Versailles, or Buckingham Palace.
