WOW. Trully inspirational. I've never seen Dizzy in color before. One question though...who the guitarist, He's the ish on this video...it's pure heaven at 4:19. Go Dizzy GO !
My father had the distinction of playing drums with the great Dizzy Gillespie in the late 70's in Chicago. Amazing to see how incredible the man was into his later years. Jazz is the end-all and be-all of music, no question.
rodney jones was a killin' player when he was 18 and of course became one of the most respected players on the jazz scene. Here he is at about 21 years old. Mickey Roker is working hard too! Ben Brown on bass.
Darn, looks like Diz called a tempo that may have been a little "brisk", even for him! Check the look of concentration he's got at 2:00 to 3:00! Then it looks like they kicked up another notch for the out chorus at 5:00... Whew!
Great! I had this video on VHS but lost it some time ago. I would be glad if you could post the performances of Gillespie and Jones while playing Incantation, in this same night. That's truly marvelous!
That is young Rodney Jones, who is currently playing with his Funk group "Soul Manifesto". I love his playing and never realized that he was playing this good in his early days.
woowww brilliant excelent.... etc. etc.
