  • The bass player is flying but there's no cameras on him. :(

  • This is da guy that got me hooked on music. I seen him at a fair when I was like 6 years old.

  • who's the drummer?

  • The guitarist seems to be (a very young) Rodney Jones.

Gleo 123: Birelli was appr. 12 yo in 1978.

  • Go Dizzy go!

  • Caramba, esse video faz parte da minha estrutura na batera (drummer), assistia quando eu era pivete, e tentava imitar o batera.

  • omg

  • I've never heard diz get funky like this: 1978!

  • WOW. Trully inspirational. I've never seen Dizzy in color before. One question though...who the guitarist, He's the ish on this video...it's pure heaven at 4:19. Go Dizzy GO !

  • the tune chords are basically cantaloupe island from hancock..

  • god damn!!!go dizzy!

  • Great! I had this video on VHS

  • One word:

    YES

  • The drummer is awesome.

  • That was incredible.

  • Smoking!

  • The drummer's shit hot. I struggle to play on the bell of the ride cymbal like that for so long.

  • Muto bom, aprendi a tocar vendo esse video...

  • i like his older stuff then his early works, just my opinon though dizzy is the man

  • My father had the distinction of playing drums with the great Dizzy Gillespie in the late 70's in Chicago. Amazing to see how incredible the man was into his later years. Jazz is the end-all and be-all of music, no question.

  • is that a super 1000 guitar?

  • Who's the drummer?

  • Check out Dizzy's Party album, you can get this and more from the same tour on Amazon.

  • Man, these guys are FLYING! Half the time it looks like a video set on fast-forward scan, but it's the speed their playing at! WOW!

  • I like how they start out fast, and then speed up because they're so into it XD

  • that rodney dude should've played with john mclaughlin and paco de lucia instead of lary coryell

  • what the fuck is wrong with his trumpet? what's this song called? it's awesome

  • He dropped it and bent one night, and he liked the tone so much, he modified all his trumpets like that one!

  • the guitar almost catches fire. what a tempo! it's not all in the same tempo, but who cares, its goddamn funky!

  • Damn, Rodney jones looks like he's still in his TEENS in this clip. Back when the jazz cats were paying attention to the FUNK cats!

  • rodney jones was a killin' player when he was 18 and of course became one of the most respected players on the jazz scene. Here he is at about 21 years old. Mickey Roker is working hard too! Ben Brown on bass.

  • Whoa Nellie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Darn, looks like Diz called a tempo that may have been a little "brisk", even for him! Check the look of concentration he's got at 2:00 to 3:00! Then it looks like they kicked up another notch for the out chorus at 5:00... Whew!

  • wow, I never knew did this kind of jazz-funk stuff. Anybody know the name of the tune or an album that this might be from

  • I think it is from Dizzy's party

  • That guitar player is goin to town

  • now play something fast

  • caraaaaaaaaaaacas, eu tenho isso em vhs

by the way, thnks... now I know who the guitar player is.

  • Great! I had this video on VHS but lost it some time ago. I would be glad if you could post the performances of Gillespie and Jones while playing Incantation, in this same night. That's truly marvelous!

  • Refreshing!

  • by god, who is that guitarist?

  • That is young Rodney Jones, who is currently playing with his Funk group "Soul Manifesto". I love his playing and never realized that he was playing this good in his early days.
