Satch is still shit so there !,he plays so fuckin predictably its BORING,just like the clowns who think hes great,Vai was never taught by him-they jammed together & Vai tht it might help Satch's career by saying "i was taught by this clown" hahaha-get a grip u penis'
I saw Vai 3x when he was with Dave Lee Roth around 1988-fuckin awesome, tried hard to play like him & failed miserably!,i can safely say that im at least better than Slash & Satriani-overated cocksuckers that they are hahaha
Vai kind of wanted to BE Zappa for a while until he realized he was neither funny nor musically engaging enough to do anything like that. This vinyl is pretty good though, if a bit silly. I listened the crap out of FLEX-ABLE when I was in college. Avoided most everything he did since.
@Nikkodemis How many ways can this be taken? And in truth he has feel, for instance take a look at some of his live videos. (Not necessarily referring to this song)
@Nikkodemis haha thats weird. i used to think that vai could just play fast with no feel but i decided to take a look at his first album. and this song is so groovy. its great, theres slow parts, medium speed, fast parts. and nice feel
@Nikkodemis haha thats weird. i used to think that vai could just play fast with no feel but i decided to take a look at his first album. and this song is so groovy. its great, theres slow parts, medium speed, fast parts and nice feel. no clue why you would post that on this song, did you even listen to it?
I bought this tape 20=yrs ago when I started guitar & in my "shred phase." I was stoked when I heard this song then I heard the rest of the tape... "WTF IS THIS SHIT?!" I thought in my --yr old brain, "THIS CANT B THE GUY WHO MADE PASSION & WARFARE." All I knew of Steve Vai then was that he played w/ DLR & Zappa & he was / is a virtuoso guitarist. I smashed that tape. 7 Yrs L8tr I "got i." Sumtimes the hardest things to listen 2 hld the gr8test reward. Good lesson & I only spent $9.95 for it.
i believe he recorded this in his bedroom/house and without the million effects we have now 1984 was a different beast....pro tools, auto tune etc...midi either infancy...at best
@AGENTxx47 .....I feel ya! I'm thinking about an inherited '71 Sony reel-to-reel deck that I used for taping the vinyl of this album. Still have it. Hearing this makes me want to pull that tape out...and I'm doing it now....
What I've always liked about Steve Vai is that, he is truely unique! He's definitely on a different wave length, from any guitarist I've ever heard! He might not be the best guitarist, but he's certainly INCREDIBLE, in his own, FASCINATING way!!!
I bought this album back in the late 80's early 90's when a friend of mine said if I liked Eat 'Em And Smile and Passion And Warfare. I'm gonna tell you what I still think this is one of his best efforts to date. Don't get me wrong I love all his stuff but some works are closer to my heart and this is one of them Flexable is a must in every rock guitarists collection.
Some trivia - This was released as a "Evatone Flexi-record" in a 1984 edition of Guitar Player magazine (which was the ONLY guitar mag in those days and everyone read it).
A "flexirecord" was a vinyl tear-out sheet in the magazine. It didn't have the entire tune (three minutes was the limit) but it was enough to get everyone's attention. I remember he suddenly became THE guy everyone was talking about in the guitar world.
Ok... We are listening that song in 2009 (i heard first time 10 years ago more or less) when we have listened to some other shredder and great players yet... Now... Come back to the past... You are in 1984. You enter in a music store and buy this album... You listen to this song and what are you thinking about??? :D My thinking would be like that: " WHAT THE FUCK!!!!! IS THIS AN ALIEN??? AM I IN THE FUTURE???" LOL
they removed all the live versions where he was wearing the leopard print shirt or whatever. there's still another live version on youtube, but the one with him and short hair is gold.
EVH was my first guitar hero- but when I started listening to Satriani, Vai, and Brian May, I realized EVH was not nearly as melodic as the rest of these guys- not that he couldn't be- cuz some of his solos are down right beautiful, but his solos seemed more like improv jamming- and his improv phrasing is not the most melodic.
damn, just damn. no other guitarist can touch Vai. I grew up and will always be a VH and Randy Rhoads die hard fan, but Vai crushes them both. I seriously think he's an alien lol.
The next best song on this album after call it sleep, I cannot belive how much this rocks and it is soooo cool. Nuff said. Oh SIDENOTE. On this album he was using a custom fender strat. He did not use Ibanez till late 87.

I know folks are going to take this the wrong way but whatever...
he's a stunt guitarist (Frank Zappa's own words) with no feel and Joe Satriani is his better.
I can't say there is no talent because he sure can play a lot of notes.
