Evil - could you give citations for liver disease and prostate cancer being caused by increased testosterone levels? As I understood it liver disease is caused by 17AA oral steroids only due to their structural alteration, and while high test and DHT can cause benign prostate hypertrophy there's no evidence that I'm aware of that they cause prostate cancer, but that they can accelerate it, as any androgen can in cancers in androgen target tissues?
@Ignitionnet Heah Ignition, sorry for the belated reply! Around 5% of a man's testosterone gets converted to DHT and increased levels apparently can drive the growth of prostate cells. Can I say it is certain link? No. But it's possible.
One paper that might be some interesting reading on the subject is: McCulloch D et al. The expression of the ADAMs proteases in prostate cancer cell lines and their regulation by dihydrotestosterone. Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, Volume 167, Issues 1-2.
@Evilcyber Hey thanks. All true but as noted previously purely BPH, no link to growth of new cancer only existing ones from what I can see in that study.
DHT's actions on androgen-target tissues is well documented, the prostate is one of those :)
@Evilcyber Ah yes you missed a really big side effect - gynecomastia! The idea of growing female breasts should put most people off self-medicating :)
I had low testosterone which is now resolved and it's a revelation. It should be noted that 300 - 1000 isn't hard and fast, when younger you've ever right to expect to be higher, if you're at 300 when you're in your mid-20s you are, no question, going to have problems when you get older as mother nature takes it away from you.
Never be embarrassed to speak to the doctor, it's been a revelation for me and Mrs Igni is rather happy too :)
Thanks alot mate. That was a much needed video for many ppl. i hear everyday about Testosterone and things to boost it . And can't make my mind up that do i need it or not. You explained it in very simple straightfarword way.
@ameenuk2000 Thanks for the friendly words! I believe that if you can't break something complicated down into simple steps, then you are a bad educator.
If you are not able to go to the Doc for whatever reason there is a video here on youtube where the dude shows a Hormone testing kit through the mail. look it up if interested. i think the website he talks about is primordialperformance com
@RippedSupreme how about heavy smokers? those can have a deep voice while experiencing low T, and besides I'm also having low testosterone levels due to a crappy lifestyle which involves sitting on my arse 24/7 until my rear end merges with the seat... even dough I've always had a deep voice, even before I started smoking. Ps.@Evilcyber, aggression also occurs on the other end of the scale, I snapped from almost anything when my free T was way under the minimum range
What about the voice, isn't your voice a good indicator of testosterone level? I read that testosterone levels DURING PUBERTY determine a male's voice, but after puberty don't alter it so much, what do you think about this?
Yup, I agree with the confusion about low testosterone levels and overtraining in many cases. Unless you use anabolic steroids, there's no need to worry about the testosterone.
You can raise / lower testosterone by doing things like heavy compound exercises, getting adequate sleep etc. I was wondering if anyone knows how variable a persons testosterone level actually is. Can you actually raise or lower it by a significant amount without the use of drugs?
@nine151 from what i know sex increases tesosterone only when you're being aroused. the moment after orgasm a lot of the testosteron switches into something else called DHT which is bad for the body (causes hair loss and other stuff). it's also why you lose your sex drive immediately after orgasm because the testosteron levels drop drastically.
also your overall testosteron levels are lower if you're having regular sex. if you avoid it your test. level is higher which is why you're more horny
@VegeXP But do you know about how many nanograms you actually have control over? Like if I only get 5 hours of sleep per night would that give me a 1% hit or something like a 25% drop off?

voice tone, that is... Higher levels of testosterone during puberty - deeper voice and viceversa

Good advice showing both sides of the problem.
Usually people think that "the more is the best" but in biology things are in a delicate balance around the optimum.

@titans091052 You can definitely lower it a lot by drinking a lot of alcohol, having bad diet in general, sleep less than you should.
