  • 2). My dad was a tailored (he was a French teacher before he married my mother) he sewed so many clothes for the soldiers. I remember the soldiers sang this song. The soldiers were very nice. This song touches my heart so deeply. one of the soldier who sang this song was killed by the mine blew up on him when he stepped on it. It was so sad. He fought for our Freedom.

  • This song just touched my heart so deep. . . becuz I was about 10 years old in 1972 at a small city name Chombok. At that time Lon Nol's soldiers were fighting the Khmer Rouge. The soldiers were lined up and walked on the roads in front of my house (a two stories concret building).

  • A wonderful guitar playing and the voice that rock the old country.

    Thank you for the sharing.

  • Seriousy valuable resource, I have been in Cmabodia this lat month and it is so hard to find this track on cd even though every Cambodian person over the age of 10 knows this song off by heart. I ended up only gettin it in a Kareoke format with quiet vocals (the best part of Sereysothea's tracks) Of course I can't speak Khmer so I only have myself to blame..arrrgh

  • Wow... Great stuff

  • Two words: air guitar! Paired with some head-banging, hip shaking, and funny faces and you're good to go. Ahh, good times.

  • love this song...

  • The incomparable Ros with one of her greatest. God, what a voice, what power. Thanks for posting this masterpiece.

  • Stop confusing people who do not know Khmer. The men are asking the woman to "allow me to love you" or let me love you. They wanted to be her love.

  • The Legend Definitely Still Lives On From Generation Bringing To The Next Level. Thank You For Everything!

  • this is my songs

  • great ;D do you have the khmer lyrics?

  • Hello everybody,

I was reading a piece of paper about her life and the journalist was impressed by some of her songs: Pink night, New year's eve. Can anyone tell me what is the title in khmer pls? Thanks

  • The song that the band Dengue Fever covered as "New Year's Eve", is really called "Jam 10 Kai Theit", or "Wait Ten Months More", which is actually paired with the song in this video. I'm not sure about the Khmer name for Pink Night.

  • Thank you Jeff for your prompt reply.

    Have a nice evening.

  • pink njght = yube por pka chuke.

  • pink nite = yube por pka chuke. the song goes something like this.

yer joob knear teart huy, yerng joob knear teart huy (repeat).

rom rom rom , rom rom rom.

yer wey kmeng snaeh kmeng, yerng rom leng sabuy (repeat).

yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah.

yueb nis yerng reaj doj jear bopa aa ha ha

ooo ee oo oo yerng reaj doj pka pka graw

    op.

anyway, i think u get the idea.i think jeff mite have in his archive.

  • Thank you Khemmara, I'm going to look for it. Have a nice evening.

  • Pink night (Yub Poar P'kar Chhouk) you refer to is actually Ros Serey's version of Middle of the Road's Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep. One of Ros Serey's 1972 output, when she was at the peak of her popularity.. so popular she was that Pen Ron, Huy Meas also started to sing in a higher pitch than they used to.

  • @lumieresrei Pink Night is based on a song by a UK band called "Middle of the Road." The original title is "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep." I haven't been able to find the Khmer title either.

  • The male backup singers said "som sror lahn" , no doubt. Check out LauraMam's video and acoustic rendition of this song, she cleared pronounced "som sror lahn". BTW, she did a great job and Ros Serei Sothea would have been proud.

  • WOW i haven't listened to this song since like when i was like a 4 year old i used to dance to it all the time and sing it with my mom wow have not listen to this for a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice one 'jupitroid', discovered khmer rock a week ago and already ros sereysothea is one of the 'greatest singers of the twentieth century'

  • I love Classic songs!!! this one has got to be the best one out of any khmer song!!

  • they said som sro layn can i love u ?

  • Such a great, great song! I only discovered Khmer rock music a week ago. I think it's going to become a big part of my life. Yesterday was the 34th anniversary of the Khmer Rouge marching into Phnom Penh. It makes me very sad to think about what happened. It's so important to remember and honor these great musicians. Love and peace.

  • jupitroid - welcome and happy listening! Khmer music today isn't what it used to be. These oldies are classics for both vocal and rhythm standards.

  • I agree. I really like the versions of Chnam Oun 16 by Meas Soksophea and by Chhom Nimol of Dengue Fever, but Ros Sereysothea's voice is like a very fine instrument played by a master musician. She was definitely one of the greatest singers of the 20th Century.

  • the best music ever made.......

  • Som Sra Liyn, Som-Sra-Liyn Or

    Kyom-Sra-Liyn...Which?

  • I'm pretty sure they sang, "som sra lahn".

  • No, they said "bong sra lahn".

    It means "I love".

The "bong" means I (older than you).

  • the male supportin' group vocal says"

SOM SROR LANH SOM SROR LANH.

meanin': somethin' like: "let me love you let me love you",

or, if "SOM" is replaced by "SOUM":

"please let me love you please let me love you".

however, bcoz the rhythm is fast, it still sounds "SOM" even if you want 2 say "SOUM".

  • it also refers to a husband/boyfriend figure.

  • Comment removed

  • Can you believe it, this song consist of like 20 words sung over and over again but yet it's one of the greatest hits from the golden era ...I wish Khmer music today can make great hits like it did in the 60's-70's, or I hope they can make hits like they use to in my life time at lest. Thanks for sharing!

  • well, if we want today's songs to make a great hit like the 60-70 we have to wrote our own songs and create the music. Nowadays, we only translate and edit others music, so i doubt ikt would make a hit.

  • 4 minutes is an epic length for a song of this structure! It really lets the groove sink in!

  • You didn't put the guy part. the guy part are saying "Can i be your love, Can I be your love"

  • I want to thank you all for working out the lyrics. I love all these songs even though I have no idea what they're saying, except for a title here and there. Someone should make a webpage with transliterated (i.e., Roman alphabet) Khmer lyrics and the English translation, just so I can sing along and know what I'm singing. Someone who already has a Ros Sereysothea website, maybe? ;-)

  • @garymaher I'm glad to hear that you love Cambodian oldies. I'll work on translating this song, per Gary :). I'll let you know...better yet, just subscribe to my channel, that way you'll know when it's ready for your viewing. It'll be quite awhile before the project is completed.

  • Khmer music rocks! Kinda bluesy, jazzy then the next thing you know full blown rock and roll!!

  • I seriously consider her to be one of the most attractive women ever. Both for her appearance and her voice.

    Damn Khmer Rouge...

  • Actually, after listening to it again, i think you may be right afterall. I think really are saying "som-srolang"...

  • no, it sounds more "oun som-lang".

  • I Love Ros Sereysothea. She can makes many different tones.

  • Can u send me link for Mao Sereth's songs or vids even?

  • Does anyone have in Mao Sareth songs???

  • does anyone have the English lyrics to this song?

  • The words that are missing from the lyrics below are: giving off a nice fragrance.

  • man we need to bring this kinda rock back, khmer rock these dayz is more pop than rock. this the real shit i feel the western melody in it. and loveing the guitar solo

  • This year, I'm 16. There is no worry. Life is like flowers, ...(something I don't know the words for). This year, I'm 16. There is no worry. What is love? Is it bitter, sour, or sweet? la la la la la.

    That's pretty much it.

  • Thank you Khemera777

  • love this song, my mom would listen to the song all day in the early 80's

  • great classic rock. something the viets and siamese never had. khmer need to emerge and get known in society more. example: khmer should keep owning khmer restraunt instead of chinese and thai!!!!!!!!!!! KHMER PRIDE!!!!!!

  • This song is from a movie called chnam oun 16 starring soum van sodany

  • c'est très jolie chanson !

  • wow pyschedelic!!!!! ya know what, khmer chicks are HOT in 60s clothing I wish they would bring it back man.

  • She is a true legend i do love her, this song brings a lot of memories to me, thank u so much!!

  • true classic!!

  • I remember this song when I was only 6 or 7 years old before our country and our people got destoyed..so sad and angry.

  • This song came out in 1973, I remembered because I have to pick a song and sing in front of the class. In Phnom Pehn school, one of the grade is music. In other towns, sewing is more important than music.

  • khmer pride. WE FUCKIN ROCK!!!!! (tear)

  • My sister very love her. She doen't like someone take ros's song to sing again.......

  • really sweet

  • These Khmer rockers are out of this world. Ros' voice is so beautiful I can hardly stand it! Thank you!

  • I remember this song when I was in 3rd grade. In Palin on April 1975 Ros Sereysothea almost leave the country with my family and others. Her husband called and demanding for her to return to Phnom Pehn immediately. I was standing there listened and looked at her sad face when she hanged up the radio.

  • this song never gets old...

  • Awesome! Thanks for uploading this. Can you upload more songs sung by her and the other popular male singer during her era? Classic and original!
