You forgot that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate than any other mental disorder and they kill 20% of the people who get them. Only 30% of people who have an eating disorder, will ever fully recover. This is serious stuff. Watch what you teach your children about beauty.
What's wrong with dieting? You had a statistic that "so-and-so" many girls diet... and? Maybe half of those girls are overweight and unhealthy and need to diet. It would of made more sense if you specified it more.

what I think that they need to realize is not that they are "beautiful inside and thats all that matters" and that they should just "accept themselves for the way they are," but rather if they are so unhappy with their appearance, dont take pity on themselves and just stop eating, but rather do something the healthy way about it... exercise, healthy diet, etc. also another important factor is that it is not WEIGHT that matters, but INCHES.

I am in Middle school and actually know someone with anorexia. Her heart stopped working twice. She wouldn't even eat a piece of gum because it was "40 calories," and so I started lecturing her. The next week, she asked me if I had any gum, I think my words of wisdom may have helped her some. I really, really hope anyone with anorexia overcomes it <3
you wanna know something sick? I just looked on the "america's next top model" website, which states that you must be at least 5'7" and include your WEIGHT with your application. disgraceful. I dont even know why people watch that show (no offense to people who r naturally skinny models)
@edtrapped Weight is necessary to figure out your sizes, for free clothes and runway. It's not disgraceful at all- plus size models are on all the time, and there is even one who won in cycle 11. The height for 5'7'' is natural too- hardly any short models are successful in this industry.
@edtrapped Well, models have to be a certain size because designer clothes are usually only made in one size, and a taller body shows off clothes better. Many people are also naturally thin, so please don't assume everyone on that show has an eating disorder.

When I was a 17 year old, I was 6' 2" tall and weighed 119 lbs. I was NOT anorexic, just skinny as all get out. I ate everything I could, but still couldn't gain weight. Back then, I was very active, living and working on a farm. (Yes, I am a female) The kids at school had some horrible names for me, so it was kinda painful. I could bump my elbow on my hip bone and bruise both spots.

@lifexisxsoxpainful One of the things I do for a living is model. I am a healthy girl, who is thin naturally because I eat healthy (organic and local) and exercise constantly. But what I despise is I cannot work for a lot of top designers because I'm not unnaturally skinny. Marc Jacobs? Only hires anorexic. Elle Fanning not included because she is a rising star. But other designers pride themselves in hiring healthy girls- and those are the type of people I want to work for, and have.

And I also fight with bulimia, again 3 to 5 times a day when I use my toothbrush to actually brush my teeth instead of shoving it down my throat to puke.

@iclandgirl I´m sorry and I believe your situation must have been hard, but my point at the beginning was that almost all these cases are self-inflicted, and the person can manage them with enough will.
In your case it’s pretty obvious that living of diet drinks, ice water and gum isn’t good, and that probably led to the indigestion and puking, but only you where preventing yourself from being healthy because you had a wrong perception of what was right and decided to go with it.

Yes, she is over weight but she still has a beautiful body. Basically, what I'm interpretting from that photo is anorexia is bad but if you look like the girl in the mirror you're fat.

When I was a 17 year old, I was 6' 2" tall and weighed 119 lbs. I was NOT anorexic, just skinny as all get out. I ate everything I could, but still couldn't gain weight. Back then, I was very active, living and working on a farm. (Yes, I am a female) The kids at school had some horrible names for me, so it was kinda painful. I could bump my elbow on my hip bone and bruise both spots.

@lifexisxsoxpainful One of the things I do for a living is model. I am a healthy girl, who is thin naturally because I eat healthy (organic and local) and exercise constantly. But what I despise is I cannot work for a lot of top designers because I'm not unnaturally skinny. Marc Jacobs? Only hires anorexic. Elle Fanning not included because she is a rising star. But other designers pride themselves in hiring healthy girls- and those are the type of people I want to work for, and have.

You say you beaten anorexia, well I still fight with it, 3 to 5 times a day when I eat my meals.
And I also fight with bulimia, again 3 to 5 times a day when I use my toothbrush to actually brush my teeth instead of shoving it down my throat to puke.
Again I say, only like 1% of the anorectic/obese really have a physical disease, and those yes they are really hard and I don’t believe there’s even a cure

@iclandgirl I´m sorry and I believe your situation must have been hard, but my point at the beginning was that almost all these cases are self-inflicted, and the person can manage them with enough will.
In your case it’s pretty obvious that living of diet drinks, ice water and gum isn’t good, and that probably led to the indigestion and puking, but only you where preventing yourself from being healthy because you had a wrong perception of what was right and decided to go with it.
