@plainrsc: If you put the banding wheel under the bowl and the pot in the bowl, by the time you have finished pouring the glaze will be half way up the bottom of the pot, getting a lot thicker on the bottom half! That's why (I'm guessing) Simon puts banding wheel INSIDE...so as to keep pot lifted. Plus it's easier to turn the banding wheel than the big wide rim of the bowl.
How is your new reduction kiln coming along, for the glaze recipe. Looking forward to seeing the finished product and building one myself. Thanks for the great videos...
Don't forget to watch out for Stick blenders at Garage or Yard Sales!
I've picked up several for my studio and for High School, very cheaply at yard sales and thrift's.
Even though we could follow the receipe in a book or off a card I always make my students rewrite the receipe, rewriting and ticking them off helps my students remember glazes. I still rewrite all the time. Like the Chalk board idea!
Love garage/yard sales....a couple weeks ago I could not believe what I was looking at....a 9" Moorcroft vase....small chip on rim. The seller asked if $5 would be OK as it was chipped? I never imagined being the owner or a piece of Moorcroft.!!..the bowls, scales etc. old plastic pitchers for pouring, are all from yard sales...love your mini workshops ...you are a very generous sharing individual...Phyl
Simon, I love yard sales and thrift shops and I am always improvising and recycling/repurposing/refurbishing things. Thanks for sharing the treasures you found.
I just had a yard sale last weekend. I love yard sales too. I always make offers and try to get an even better bargin. One man's junk is another man's treasure.
I wish I could use that celedon glaze recipe, but I fire ^6 ox.
Where in the States are these days?

@PainterGirl Go for the Bailey wheel. I LOVE mine! Cheaper and to me just as good as Shimpo.

That is a lovely piece you used for a glazing example.

if you are doing large amounts of glaze mixing a scale like this would work. But for smaller test glaze runs I recommend a triple beam scale.

I never find kitchen scales when I am checking yard sales or thrift stores. I am so jealous. Find loads of great texture items though

Love the tips. I bought a vintage scale, but never considered the uses for the large metal bowls...great advise.

Americans could well take a lesson from the English on thrift."Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without." Thanks for the video. Claire

I would probably put the banding wheel under the bowl instead of inside the bowl
