My husband bought the GSF truck driving school pre trip inspection dvd. He studied it for 2 weeks and took the test and failed it....because they didn't update the DVD and some of the stuff on the test wasn't even mentioned in the DVD and some of the PSI's mentioned were wrong...
Please provide specifics. The video is a training tool. All of the specifics mentioned in the video are currently being used by our instructors. We periodically review the information to make sure that it is up to the current safety and regulatory standards.
@GSFSchools He ordered the class b video for 45$. He said that there were a couple things not mentioned in the walk around inspection and he said that the PSI's were wrong.
@GSFSchools He said that the in the DVD it says the break check light should come on at 55-75 and it's supposed to be at exactly 60 PSI. Also the governor cut out the DVD says it's supposed to cut out at 130 but it's actually 140.
@MsLacimae We produced the video as a guide for our students. No information mentioned in the video for the vehicle being used is incorrect or inaccurate. Every trainee must be familiar with the vehicle being used for the drive test as it may vary from the vehicle in the video. That being said, all the steps in the Air Brake test, all the major components in the In-Cab, and Walk-Around Inspections are necessary and mandatory requirements in order to perform a basic CDL inspection.
@MsLacimae Again the video is a training tool. We are all responsible for the specific vehicle we are using during the drive test. That being said, the specifics mentioned for the vehicle in use during this video with regards to the Air System check, the In-Cab, and the Walk-Around inspections are accurate. we use this same inspection on a daily basis to prepare our students for the drive test and they are successful.
@sideslide23 In case you STILL do not know. . . . . . . . . . . . .unless you have really good contacts in a "local" company WHEREVER you are, you will have to apply to an OTR company to drive because local companies have big insurance considerations to deal with. I attended Western Pacific Truck School in Fresno Ca, passed all written tests the first time, passed all skills tests the first time, graduated from the trucking school and went to work for SWIFT Transportation. Good company! :)
@sideslide23 What do you mean "SWIFT are asking $4000 to get in"? What is the $4000 for? And what you do mean "get a a bid off" of CR England? Are you saying you are not driving now?
@sideslide23 Whoa driver! First, what is the $4000 for? What do you mean "pay the full price"? What written test? Are you saying you do NOT have a Class A license? You sure have ME confused! You need to clarify.
Can anyone please tell me what the 6 part airbrake test consist of for california i know its governor cut-in, and governor cut-out, 4-60 applied test, low air warning device but i cant remember what the other two are.Any help will be appriciated.

i work in a trucking co. I noticed that when a straight truck backs in they stop just before the dock plate. i hear a noise, they let out air, i think, and then they back up when all the air is out, then i put the dock plate. how and why.
In the beginning when you "let of some pressure" You applied the service brake while the maxi's where applied is that considered "compounding" the brakes I know 3 people that failed there test because of this.
While your statement is true, it does not consider the occasional "truck-in-gear" scenario that may cause vehicle to "jump" while trying to start it thus for safety purposes we recommend to press on the clutch before attempting to start your truck. Thanks for watching!
@123aponte Newer truck mods require you to press the clutch before you can start it, like a passenger car, i drive a freightliner cascadia and i have to press the clutch.
@123aponte you do need to press the clutch to start a truck depending on the truck you are starting. Some tractors like older Sterlings you have to, some Volvos I've driven had to and some Freightliners I have driven I had to. Not to mention if the tractor is in gear. I always leave my truck in gear when I shut it down.
@123aponte no but you neet to make shure the stick is set on nutural and you do need to hold the overide switch when starting the engine or th engine won't start.
you didn,t exsplain the air test the release valve is sopose to kick of at 117 to 137 lbs you did,t say that your supose to hold the brake pedal for one minute if you have air leak if you don,t have air leak no nead to hold brake pedal for one minute you still have much more to do to complete air test i think you need more training good luck.
We did not quite understand what you intended to point out but thank you for watching. Remember this video is a snaphot of a complete inspection video that we have at the school.
@spydog50 when doing the warning on the air test, you leave the key on on but with engine off, you fan out the brake, at 60 PSI the warning buzzer should go off, and then at 20 PSI the emergency brake should pop out its self, and then you start the truck up and make shure that the compressor is restoring the system.
Thank you for your comment; however, your observation does not match what is being explained in the video as the instructor HAS brakes/valves in the APPLIED position and clutch DEPRESSED position when starting vehicle.
We would suggest that you read over your state's commercial vehicle handbook's section on Air Brake Inspections. You can also go to our website and purchase a full copy of this video which will serve as an aid to your studies.

@pocockvet it s most likely the parking brake..which pushes the air out of the brake chamber and make a loud noise
