  • world is crazy

  • i love his covers ! he puts so much passion into them you can tell he really respects the original artists

  • @gkram212 he's in the band :)

  • @purpleshoes Is he still in Arcade Fire? I thought he had left them.

  • @travisisbeastE I got it a bit wrong - he's not really IN the band, but he's played violin and done the string arrangements on all their records

  • @purpleshoes Yeah, but I've seen him in videos of their live performances (I've never had the honor of actually seeing them live), but I think those were only their earlier stuff so he must have been in the band for a while. I mean, I'm pretty sure playing on their albums and playing with them live constitutes as being in the band.

  • @travisisbeastE Plus he co-wrote the string arrangements on both Funeral and Neon Bible. Knowing those albums, it's a pretty big deal.

  • I love this, I think it's better than the original tbh. It's so beautiful and sweet. I love Arcade Fire too though.

  • Andrew Bird is a good musician, but as a songwriter he's really nothing special, whereas Owen Pallett is truly unique.

  • Everytime I watch this video I get the same reaction. And I've seen this a million times. Just...lovely.

  • I love how he blushes almost constantly when covering a song.

  • i love you !!! Cute

  • i love how he does the orchestration for arcade fire. Every time I listen to them and notice the amazing string arrangements it makes me think a this amazing guy. And hearing him do no cars go just gives me chills

  • marry me

  • This is great! Thanks! Is Owen wearing a dress? That's so cool!

  • Owen's music is far more classically flavored than Bird's... I prefer it, but that's just opinion. Yes, Andrew Bird is the better guitarist and whistler, but when it comes to being musician, they're completely incomparable. They're both brilliant violinists and lyricists. Leave it at that.

  • You know how to win the Owen Pallett vs. Andrew Bird debate? Enjoy them both ;)

  • @MrVinsje i prefer Mr.Bird

  • actually Owen is more talented musically...its more of an opinion on who is better...not a fact...

  • i think it's your opinion that owen is more talented, because from what i've seen andrew bird do, he seems more talented to me.

  • @iamwhy They are both excellent violinists, actually. They are amateurs compared to conservatory trained musicians but I digress. They use a very similar formula (singing and soloing over looped violin) in a somewhat similar way. Ultimately, you'd be hard pressed to find someone in their right mind who thought one was outright better than the other because of their similarities.

  • @iamwhy What did you take blood samples and then run them through some "Talent Meters." It's not a talent show, there is no better hell I could say Daniel Johnston is a better musician and it's still relevant.

  • I don't know which one is better at singing or playing the violin, it's apples and oranges, really. What I can tell you is that Andrew Bird is DEF. the better whistler.

  • @julianvu i like the usage of DEF...thats dope lol

  • I'm sorry, but he is one of the greatest musicians ever. Just so talented.

  • @Maryposahh i agree...but not when next to andrew bird.

  • @dc13fc OMG he's so good, too! They're just so similar, though, that whoever you prefer is totally based on personal preference.

  • No he wasn't

  • idk kinda looks like it.

  • Beautiful. I loveee this man. :D

  • He didn't write this song. He arranged the strings for it.

  • thanks asshat we all know it was arcade fire

  • Owen Pallett doesn't have a writing credit on this song per se, but he is credited with arranging all Arcade Fires orchestral pieces, so he did compose part of No Cars Go, he just didn't contribute to the stripped down, original version of the song, which appeared on the EP. Because he didn't contribute to the spine, if you will, of the song, he is not given a credit. Hope I helped clear things up

  • the only thing is that it sounds a little more depressing than I think it should, but either way amazing cover.

  • I find he always makes his covers a little more depressing. Your Ex-lover is Dead, for example. Maybe it's just the violin?

  • it looks like he's wearing no trousers, haha. This is a lovely version

  • i swear he helped to write the song...

  • he did. It's in the liner notes of Neon Bible. Owen Pallett is so brilliant and deserves more recognition of his musical genius

  • I don't think he did. He is not mentioned in the EP from 2003 where the song first appeared but he helped recording it to Neon Bible.

  • The original version of No Cars Go had no orchestral arrangement along with it, just Régine and her accordion. However, the Neon Bible version had a whole orchestra at it's disposal which Owen had a hand in writing music for.

  • He does all their string arrangements. Or at least he did for Funeral. That other hottie whose been playing violin since the Funeral tour at least and who's name escapes me may have had more of a hand with Neon Bible.

  • @DrHadabath he has done most of their string arrangements to this point. He even worked on a majority of Suburbs.

  • how beautiful is that... fell in love with...

  • this is one of my favorites to listen to this and.... hmmmm maybe the butcher... Its hard to pick

  • this version is made of WIN

  • Butler? ;)

  • lmao

  • Damn, that's a brilliant rendition of an already excellent song, and what a nice crowd. You don't realize they're there until the end of the video.

  • Beautifull <3

  • 5/5.

  • check out where in the world are you by great lake swimmers owen plays the sweetest lines on that song

  • They're both great...and they rule each other...Don't pay out cool people, geez...

  • he used to be involved in that band you know?

  • All of his work is pretty stunning; I really hope Owen gets more recognition in the future for his work, he's remarkable.

  • i love owen

    this is amazing!!

  • :D amazing

  • great song mate, well done

  • i love this.

he is one of the reasons Arcade Fire is so good.

  • This man makes life worth while.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • oh my. that was a joy...

    thanks,

    MB

  • Beautiful! I love the part that starts around 3:23; it's always been my favourite part of the Arcade Fire song and he does it beautifully.

  • Wooooo... That's wonderful... He seems a bit melancholic to sing it...

  • that is so incredible. how much more talented can a person get?

  • Yes, I was at this and it strikes me now- is this the most well-behaved audience ever?! Especially with the sitting on the floor for about an hour. Now THAT was painful.

  • I like this even more than the original.

  • my favorite arcade fire song, really neat to see owen perform this. :)

  • i heard that owen actually wrote this song mainly. Thats just what ive heard, but it does have his fingerprints on it i think

  • owen actually did all the arrangements for both of the arcade fire albums, and this was the first song he did with them, so you are pretty much right!

  • hmmm I heard he co-wrote the violin parts just for neon bible, and sarah neufeld did all the arrangements on funeral.

haha a bunch of arcade fire fans arguing over technicalities.

  • hint: no cars go was written before either of these cds

  • he co-wrote the string arrangements on both funeral and neon bible

  • any one have an mp3 of this?!

  • Wow. I love him so much.

  • He sounds alot better than the last time I saw him

  • such a talent

  • Oh man my heart seriously skippeed a beat whe I heard this version. I love Owen.

  • Oh God. I love you.

  • He's more and more lovely each time I see him, live or digital. I'm so glad this was recorded this time. Thank you.
