I'm thinking of buying one of them but hesitate which to choose Kindle4 or Kindle Touch
I know about softw and physic specifications . I would be using it mostly for reading pdfs
the Kindle Touch would be more preferable choice because you have touch zoom but the thing that bothers me is the dimensions of Kindle 4 Touch it is bigger and thicker than normal Kindle 4. And I need somehing that is easy to carry for example in the back pocket.
Whoever the fucking dumbass was who decided to make a touch based interface on an e-ink display should be fired. The amount of time it takes between a touch and a response is maddening. Just go with the buttons.
Can you find certain words in a book, by typing it into a search, on the kindle touch? I know there is a find function on the kindle 4, but i'm not sure about the kindle touch. I'm not sure if I explained that right, but an example of what I'm asking is like on a computer, if you hit control + f the find bar comes up, does the kindle touch have that type of thing?
why would you pay more for a worse device? like for real... slower, heavier, bigger, no landscape mode and turning pages with buttons is actually much better then by touching the screen that with time will get dirty
not being able to read pdf comfortably takes the part of the device that i bought if for in the first place (school stuff that if i wanted to all read on a pc i would have already lost my eyes) so if ur like me take kindle 4 and dont look back
I wish I could combine the two. Come on amazon, instead of making 10 flawed products, why not provide one decent one with all the features. It's annoying.
@MMthefeeling I havent interacted with a Kindle 4 completely (as in I don't own one but I have played with other peoples kindles) and I'd say touch but if your uncomfortable with touch and would get really annoyed if you accidently touch your kindle and turn a page or something than go gor kindle 4 because it does happen but as long as you have an idea of where you are it isn too bad =]
I wasted an hour searching for a good comparison between the Kindle and K. Touch before I found this. It's terrific. Thanks so much.
I do wonder if there will ever be more languages added to the Kindle. Does it seem likely? Also, are there updates on the Kindle, so that if more languages are added they can be integrated? Thanks once again.
As for the Kindle Touch (the one I own), PDF and browser are only to be used as a last resort. With Kindle's refresh rate you'll only read confortably with page turn, because the scrolling effect is very tiring to the eyes, and you frequently lose track of what line you were reading. Fontunately almost all web pages contain a "send to Kindle" share option, and I use Calibre to convert my PDFs to mobi.
This is a question for the reviewer. I'm a geek so I'm thinking of the touch. Its also obviously much more versatile. But one of the things I like about my wife's kindle 3 is that can actually grasp the Kindle by the screen while I'm reading. Just like a real book.
I like not having to hold it along the edges only.
So my question is can I hold a touch that way and not have it interpret my grasp as some kind of command. I can not hold my ipad this way, or it turns the page.
Bought a kindle touch on eBay because of the whole US only thing after amazon wouldn't ship it's kindles outside of the US - receiving it in about 2 - 4 weeks. Hoping it works fine here in the UK, language I thought was changeable but I'm fine with American English so that wont really be a probably, maybe just a nuisance with spelling differences and stuff. Hope to have it registered to my UK account. :)
Very good comparison. I don't have a kindle reader, been using the kindle app on my Droid which is very very good. I plan on buying a reader and looked at numerous options. I narrowed my options down to what i need...read books. Tablets and IPads are good but can't read in the sun, you get the glare. I want a cheap reader to just read books, have an iphone and laptop 4 media. The Kindle Touch look slows on the refresh, and for the cheap i'm going with just the Kindle. Can't wait to get it
Yeah, it was actually a step down, in a way. It's not saying that the current generation is bad in any sense, it's just this generation sacrifices preference-only features (like music and speakers) for a much lower price. Now this is a win-win for everyone. If you really want an audio player, you'd go for the Kindle Keyboard. You got what you wanted and Amazon got the extra cash. I'd say this generation is not anchored on price but on cost. I like it.
kindle 3 all the way... these 2 are a downgrade

Kindle Touch has the text to speech, MP3, audiobooks, more GB, longer battery time, easier navigation.....
and it's only $20 more.

@bebop7c2 i think kindle 4 non touch version is better. Looks better, weights less, more compact, keyboard not distracting.
