Music represents the soul of the people, it is one of the most beautiful forms of cultural expression

Another problem is that some individuals want to take credit for the cultural accomplishments and achievements of Afro-descendants and deny them any originality and creativity by falsely stating that such and such form of music already existed in Africa before the creation of it here in the West. The different dances styles, musical genres, etc, came about as a result of their unique experiences in the West, period.
There's a story behind every art form created by Afro-descendants
insecure individuals feel better about themselves. Afro-colombians for example do not identify themselves as "African", I doubt they even use the prefix "afro". Yes, they've retained many of their ancestral customs and traditions and celebrate and take pride in their culture. That being said, it is still a mix of Euro/African elements and nothing will change that. They have their own identity just like AAs, Haitians, Afro-Bolivians and those identities should be respected
without trying to influence his identity and impose upon him terms which he feels don't do justice to the richness of his heritage, some people chose to slander and belittle him.
People need to understand that the majority of Afro-descendants have created new cultures and established identities based upon those cultures and their experiences in the countries where these cultures took shape.

Not a fan. I agree that "Black" is better than "African American", but for different reasons. He admits to never having been to Africa, but assumes that people in Africa don't claim Black Americans as brothers and sisters. I've been to Africa three times, to three different countries and in two different regions and I've always been accepted as a long lost sister. Sure, our ancestors have been in America long enough for us to deserve respect as Americans. But we should never forget our homeland!

Yes, they've retained many of their ancestral customs and traditions and celebrate and take pride in their culture.
