Not aikido vs karate, i do both, like firelight said its the karaste guy aiding the aikido guy with his demo, he is not using karate AT ALL. again nothing wrong with it just dont tell us an apple is a lemmon.
Also as to the comment about aikido not showing the realy thing, if aikido showed the real thing the guy would be dead or in intesive care is it with break limbs. and i am a karate instructor so no bias from me. and aikido has techniqeu to defend kicks, punches the lot not just hand grabs
The karate guy is part of the demo and assisting. It is does not represent anything beyond that. As for which is better it mostly comes down to the person within most Art Forms, except Tae Kwon Do of course which is totally lame.
I know this guy could beat the shit out of me ( I am a 4th kyu kyo karateka.) but for some reasons I laugh my ass out when I watch this video... (my uncle do thai box..ahhhh...) He dont really belive martial arts he said this is like wrestling lol. act. he meant this aikido vs karate show
This stuff does not work against real angry people who are determined to kick your teeth in, helpfull uke makes it look good.......I would make him look shit !
the title if misleading, this is not karate or a vs ( versus ) however it is a nice aikido demonstration. But i just dont get why you have to lie about the video in the title probably just to get more views. Change the title too something like: 1ste Aikido Demonstration (possible with a karateka as uke not as a real fighter)
Is the karate disciple really unable to hit that master of akido? That is genuinely impressive and probably possible I think due to grappling martial arts having an edge over most striking martial arts to a certain point. Kinda bums me because I take karate, but at the same time now I wanna learn akido or some form of grappling even more!
@elfkiller7 This is an aikido demonstration. It is not real in the slightest. Don't let this fact deter you from learning grappling, however, and you are right: Grappling trumps striking any day. I wrestled for years and a little judo too. It is amazingly fun and not repetitious like striking.
To all those bashing the Aikidoist, you should take a look at Morihei Ueshiba the founder. If he, a 4' 9" can take people 2 to 3 feet taller than him with such ease that it almost seems effortless, than I'm pretty sure the man in this video is not a fake. Aikido merely carries the attacker's force and transfers it onward (with the added exception of a lock or two.)
further, karate does NOT provide the continuing momentum into the opponents circle (as aikido requires) as seen here. anyone who studies karate knows this.
This is a nice display of Aikido, but its not "Karate vs. Aikido" The "karate" guys are not doing karate, they are simply helping this guy with the demo. Nothing wrong with that, just don't make it sound like its some measure of the strenght of the two arts.
Regardless of whether you like or dislike Aikido, you have to agree that this master really knows his stuff! It is a demonstration. His opponents know how to go with the flow. However, he is only toying with them. If he wanted to hurt them for real he could certainly do so. Pitting one martial art against another is futile. There is always someone who has an advantage, whether it be a brief window of opportunity or a better choice in that moment. Opponents with guns usually win.
@magnuspoiss2 aikido is just a dance, if someone want to kill you and not dance with you, aikido man will go to hos+pital to think more about his pussy tecnhics, lol
Lovely! There are many who laugh at Aikido. So be it. When Aikido connects with you, and you with it, then there is no greater feeling in this world. More than anything, Aikido is pure feeling.
Very impressive I find! Great mastery of own and others bodies! Hopefully, most people will one day understand that true martial arts is more a way to find inner balance and harmony than fighting! Fighting (hopefully) is just small moments, but the way to mastery, a long path that tests will, mind and body!
Los movimientos estan muy flojos les falta aptitud .esta bien que no se van a lastimar pero tienen que darle más realismo por parte de los que atacan.
First of all, this does look like a FRIENDLY DEMONSTRATION of some of the many possibilities in a martial discipline. The founder of this (if properly instructed) effective martial art had many purposes, and called TRUE VICTORY, one's SELF VICTORY. Many disciplines exist that can help us "defeat" someone. At the same time, there'll always be somebody bigger, stronger, faster, sicker, better accompanied, better armed, out there. I've seen this. Good luck to ALL in finding your own SELF VICTORY.
@mrwhatever213 No , I really don't think an Akido person can kill anyone. I mean the only way they can be at all effective is if you stick a limb out so they can grab it. Make low strikes and they fall.
Aikido is self defence. If someone tries to hit you in any way, using Aikido lets you defend yourself. However, some experienced people even to locks that could possibly break a bone. Anyway, why would you want to kill somebody when you're defending yourself?
@CalebASM is that how you brag how good you are., well your lucky that your friend is lame not aikido. whatever your martial arts is if you using the technique properly, good reflexes, accurate w/ speed it will be effective an fatal no matter what will your opponent do.,
@CalebASM Well it depends on how good you are and how good he is. A master would never fail talking bout Aikido. Because it's defencive and not offencive.
the aikidoka will not flip the dude ,he will close distance to take the edge out of the kick and attack the other leg
to take down the attacker
any way all that fliping is only used by aikidokas in order to avoid damage ,when some of the techniques are applied if the uke will not flip he can get hurt
I'm a student of Kempo (18 yrs) and Aikido(6yrs). They blended well for me.No art is better than the other. Effectiveness is something else. When Aikido students want to spar w/ me the get a reality check. They cannot catch my hands or feet and I do not hyper extend. I target their hands. Especially if they have them open. They are defenseless without hands
I see lots of tough guys here trashing about martial arts again.
How sad, is this how your parents have raised you? Shame on you, go take some lessons, after that, challenge someone who is proficient in a martial art, spar with him, then come back.
Oh wait, you lot can't even get out of your chair without help, sorry, I was expecting too much of the users of the internet again.
How sad and lame can you become? Ask that question yourself sometime, try to change your life for the better.
@Shadowmov3r Some people may say that was harsh, I say that was neccessary. People need to stop saying, Oh well thats mean and say ; Oh damn I am a lazy slouch shall I do something about it????? I train Judo in the UK and I will say that alot of the technuiqes are derivants from eachother, i am currently a Brown Belt 1 black tag in judo, i am were i am because of my determination and self dicipline, not my skill in changing the world behind a screen...
@Shadowmov3r Most of use do useful things, like learn and educate ourselves. Go take some lessons? I've done MMA for a long time, and this is just some fantasy anime bullshit. NO ONE can grab an arm after they've thrown a punch. It is too fast. Only idiots think otherwise.
@zacktillery If you have done MMA for so long, why do you not know the foundations of a martial art? Why do you not know that Aikido is not only used when someone grabs you, but also for other attacks?
Why do you not know that your own style is created within the martial art? How come you do not know that martial art, the foundation of it, is not only base set of moves but also applicable for other techniques too?
Your ignorance makes me doubt you've done any kind of martial art form.
@Shadowmov3r No, MMA is nowhere near based upon aikido. The reason you doubt that i've done martial arts, is because i don't think like you? Idiot. Fighting is meant to fight, not have some philosophy bullshit attached to it. You want spiritualtiy? Get religion. I fight so fuck people up, not to dance around in dresses.
hahaha guy dont take this seriosly this is demonstration they both know what opponent is going to do aikido doesnt stand a chance againts real karate attack
@dudeofdudez1 they weren't using karate. they were running at the aikido guy reaching at his wrists. that is the same unrealistic "attack" aikido uses in all their demonstrations.
If that was karate that was losing then their moves are too obvious if you ask me.And at the start why didn't he use kicks? It's a demonstration after all..
@martini742 All martial arts are sports when put in contest with or without one another. True fighting is done without rules or restrictions and could even mean death for those involved. Without winners and only losers. Practice to only prepare for the ability to control and or evade fighting to begin with. This is what a true martial artist does. No art is better than the next. Only people with something to prove make this mistake. May peace and honor be rich in your life my friend.
@LivingLegendMrShadow well,my friend you are talking with someone who takes honor and peace very very serious, i have many honor and peace in my life ,if i dislike aiikido is beacuse i practiced that my friend and well my trainer well he didnt respect me as a muay thai figther , one guy in my school atack me with badwords just because i said that i prefer striking because i have more experience it mades him mad and insults me so i have bad experience with aiikido
@martini742 I would not say that I am A master of anything. Familiar as I maybe in Aikido, Judo, Muay Thai, Karate, Boxing, Jujitsu , Wing Chun, Capoeoira, Kenpo, and Taekwon-Do. I understand that you may have a problem with an individual who insulted you and showed you disrespect. Remember that the art has nothing to do with the people you were learning from at the time. A text book can not hate a student, and a student should never hate to learn. Take care and I show respect to your Do
@LivingLegendMrShadow of corse i respect you ,and that is true ,in this case well i only have bad experience with aiikido ,but well i going to open my mind my friend ,sorry if my english is not good hahaha maybe haha well it doesnt matter ,and i dont say i am aa expert sorry if it apears take care man i love muay thai
@LivingLegendMrShadow well maybe you should tell them about honor and peace..i dont need to probe anything to anyone i know how good i am and what i have to become better , but well i dont like aiikido because that people i m not telling aiikido is not good but for me for my style for me it doesnt works beacuse im more agresive/inside the ring not in streets there is not honor and it isnt a figth is a shit youknow and i know ypu are agree with me in that) for me a real figth is iin the ring
@LivingLegendMrShadow and in the cage but well love your martialart practices it respect your zensei, your frends your parents your got and respect all, i respect your martial art but i dont like it so... it is about eachother and nonone could chance it ,you know, and well i am a muay thai figther and mma so i prefer intence things maybe more hard ,and yes i learned somethings of aiikido that is true ...be happy my friend :)
@XChaosXSniperX Not to get into the nice discussion you´re having with DarkSwan, which is weird on youtube, but I have to dissagree with you. Strongly. If you decide to punch an Aikidoka in the face, I hope for your sake he's not one of the good ones. Cause if he does block your move and catches you on the way, he has more than enough techniques to protect himself and kill you if necessary, even if it is nowhere near the point of practicing this art.
@DetectiveDreamer very true, the teachers matter a great deal. At my Aikido dojo, we have several senseis, some have come from dojo's where (and some have ideas) to throw vicious attacks whenever possible during techniques. Others focus solidly on form and gracefulness. Both are significant.
@XChaosXSniperX well thats the point - aikido doesn't teach you how to fight, it teaches you how to defend... everyone has their own opinion though, not gonna say anything about that
@XChaosXSniperX aikido you may think aikido is shit and useless, but really, it depends on who taught you. cause, the people i know who've a black belt in aikido, if you attack them you might end up dead..
@XChaosXSniperX I've been to the Bangla studio in Thailand so I've seen that it's awesome, Krav is great too and I've been a boxing fan all of my life, the point is that these MA's are sports. You can't compare something like a sport and a real martial art. They are different things, like comparing apples to oranges. Go find a Dojo where they'll allow you to go full contact, and then let me know how that goes for ya... It'd be superb to hear what happened either way! Any vids of you on here?
Amazing Aikido! I wish i could. Only have done judo but not for long, yellow belt with orange slip when i stopped. I am afraid i am to old for the defense to resume sports with my almost 33 age :(
@UpperYarraAquaponics I agree with you. You are disgustingly fake and a total embarrassment for true martial artists everywhere. Your nose is covered in shit from all that GSP ass kissing. I've never seen so much homo love that was unrequited LOL.
The sensei in this video is Joe Thambu. Yes he's so fake he used his training everyday during his career as a bouncer. And yes Yoshinkan Aikido is so fake, it is a required training course of the Tokyo police.
@UpperYarraAquaponics Um this is Youtube....anyone can post anything and DELIBERATELY mislabel it. This is actually a mislabeled Yoshinkan Aikido demo. Nobody is pretending to be anything moron.
You're so fucking stupid. How do you pee without wetting your pants?
This video is a perfect example of how disingenuous Aikido pushers are. They have just gotten their own students, put karate gi's on them and said "fall like in class, but pretend you are attacking with karate". There is no karate here. This is a very deceitful method, and demonstrates what Aikido is about.
@UpperYarraAquaponics the gi is worn by nearly every Japanese MA stylist idiot. Aikido can use either the light gi or the the heavier double-weave gi. Yoshinkan Aikido tradition doesn't allow the lower ranking students to wear the black hakama. Only the higher ups wear that.
Go beat up a water bag krotty fart and leave the martial arts stuff to truly knowledgeable people.
@XChaosXSniperX Go for it... I agree you can do it big guy! Find an Aikido Dojo walk in there and challenge the teacher to a proper spar. Get back to us when you've done this and your opinion is based on something other than your imagination. Any vids here of you in action?
Good point. You're not learning strikes and kicks, but breaks and locks mostly. In MMA you don't get points for breaking someones arm or neck and what I've learned if done in a combat situation would result in a break (usually arm or neck, very rarely the leg for some reason). Aikido isn't a sport. I reckon if I were to punch you in any real situation you wouldn't go down like a ton of bricks.. (maybe in my dreams) You be angry and want to continue fighting me. I'd hate that...
@MobileMarketingDude lol of course locks and holds work in UFC and MMA. Aikido is not in UFC and MMA because it is "so dangerous" rofl. It is not in UFC and MMA because a trained professional fighter makes mince meat out of an Aikido exponent.
@UpperYarraAquaponics The point is you're learning how to avoid hitting other human beings. Locks and holds are so boring anyway. Why would you want to see more of that anyway? The ideology doesn't fit with MMA which is about feeding the arrogant and base nature. Most Aikidokas come to Aikido from other MA's and can punch and kick fine, but realise that it's part of the problem the world faces, and not part of the solution. My teacher was 4th Dan Shotokan and a competitive kickboxer.
@UpperYarraAquaponics O'Sensei's concept is that violence is a result of humans not being at ease with the world or something in that world. Not "at ease" = "dis-eased" Appaently ou have 3 levels to who you are. Base self wants to fight a lot and survives and struggles, middle self wants to cling to control but needs power and is ego driven, and the higher self trancends those ideas to be at one in flow with universal forces grasshopper. He felt that bushido was about establishing peace.
There is not even a debate in the Karate vs Aikido question; any real martial artist knows this.
UFC and MMA are dominated by karate (kyokushin) and BJJ. Aikido is nowhere to be seen (however some experts will experiment with it for inspiration). There is not a single Aikido "exponent" who has made it in the UFC or MMA. That is because it is functionally useless against a trained fighter.
St-Pierre is ranked as the No. 1 Welterweight fighter IN THE WORLD according to Sherdog, MMA Weekly and numerous other publications. St-Pierre is ranked the No. 2 pound for pound fighter IN THE WORLD by ESPN sports, Yahoo! Sports and Sherdog.
I don't understand why people would just sit and watch this without calling BULLSHIT. I've never ever, to this date, seen an Aikido master have anyone come at him actually willing to punch or kick him...
I've sparred 3 times a week for the better part of a year when I trained muay-thai (being punched, kicked and kicking and punching back), and I've never ever seen an Aikido sparring session. If there's an Aikido master willing to get punched, send me a message and we'll "demonstrate"...
Real karate guy would kicked and punched back , they would trow the aikido master on the floor 2 , just a show off of aikido , the guy in white is giving hes hands , not fighting
@dem0nclaw ther e is no karate in the first place and in aikido . the martial art is ment to end things quick . so any one kicking and punching will lose .
@dem0nclaw well honestly it depends on how they use ther knowlege . they can know 1million martial art's but it would be useless unless they used it right . so what i'm saying is that it depends on the people that are fighting and how they use ther martial art .
The point is there is no Karate. Taking the first flow of energy coming from the attacker and redirecting it so that there is no effective attack. Moves if carried out aggressively look like Krav as the spirit of Aikido is to do as little harm as possible, your never gonna see it done that way. I suggest going to an Aikido class and ask the teacher if you can attack him properly... Ring for an ambulance first though.... as the energy you put into the attack is what he'll channel.
PLEASE, please don't take me wrong. I really love aikido's philosofy on defusing a situation with little to no harm to the attacker, I'm just trying to add with what I experienced.Once we discussed the subject at the dojo i used to attend (wish i could make up time to go back) and i found logic and wisdom when our teacher said we should care for our safety and the ones which we are with first and second for the attacker.
@zacktillery If you're sceptical, find a class in your area, tell the teacher and ask if he or she would let you spar properly.. a lot of Aiki's have been through Karate or Judo or other MA's and would enjoy the experience. Useiba the founder, was a 4th Dan Karate and loved it, but the concept is people attack others when not at ease with thier world... not at ease = (or is the same as) dis-eased. Violence and agression is the problem we face as humans and the root cause of suffering.
@MobileMarketingDude Thats a lovely message, but unfortunately it speaks nothing of the effectiveness of Aikido in a situation of violence. In the example of UFC and MMA - Aikido is useless.
@zacktillery I forgot to say... If attacked by more than one you'd use Aiki-JUTSU which basically means using full version of the technique and break rather than lock. Give other attacker/s the chance to leave peacefully... I've use Aikido a couple of times in the real world and taking someone to the ground gently in a lock and NOT stomping or punching them, makes them feel you're a good bloke... so they automatically stop wanting to fight. That is weird but beautiful.

@CalebASM Well it depends on how good you are and how good he is. A master would never fail talking bout Aikido. Because it's defencive and not offencive.
DoC3Viper 3 months ago
@CalebASM It's probably your friends fault then, not the martial art itself.

aikido is terrible. try and flip a dude when you are getting a round kick to the face.
tommymonsternz 3 months ago
@tommymonsternz
the aikidoka will not flip the dude ,he will close distance to take the edge out of the kick and attack the other leg
to take down the attacker
any way all that fliping is only used by aikidokas in order to avoid damage ,when some of the techniques are applied if the uke will not flip he can get hurt

Shadowmov3r 2 months ago
@Shadowmov3r No, MMA is nowhere near based upon aikido. The reason you doubt that i've done martial arts, is because i don't think like you? Idiot. Fighting is meant to fight, not have some philosophy bullshit attached to it. You want spiritualtiy? Get religion. I fight so fuck people up, not to dance around in dresses.

Especially because of some IDIOTIC AIKIDO INSTRUCTIONS- WRISTLOCK ARE JUST 1% OF TRUE AIKIDO. HAND CATCHING IS FUNNY, FUNNY....
Aikido has become lesser art because of the IGNORANT AND FOOLISH UNDERSTANDING BY SOME INSTUCTORS

martini742 3 months ago
@martini742 All martial arts are sports when put in contest with or without one another. True fighting is done without rules or restrictions and could even mean death for those involved. Without winners and only losers. Practice to only prepare for the ability to control and or evade fighting to begin with. This is what a true martial artist does. No art is better than the next. Only people with something to prove make this mistake. May peace and honor be rich in your life my friend.
LivingLegendMrShadow 3 months ago

Commander13CnC3 3 months ago
@XChaosXSniperX well thats the point - aikido doesn't teach you how to fight, it teaches you how to defend... everyone has their own opinion though, not gonna say anything about that

@UpperYarraAquaponics I agree with you. You are disgustingly fake and a total embarrassment for true martial artists everywhere. Your nose is covered in shit from all that GSP ass kissing. I've never seen so much homo love that was unrequited LOL.
The sensei in this video is Joe Thambu. Yes he's so fake he used his training everyday during his career as a bouncer. And yes Yoshinkan Aikido is so fake, it is a required training course of the Tokyo police.
jamespohh 3 months ago
@jamespohh um - it says Aikido vs Karate. Even thee content of the video pretends to be. It isnt.
UpperYarraAquaponics 3 months ago
@UpperYarraAquaponics Um this is Youtube....anyone can post anything and DELIBERATELY mislabel it. This is actually a mislabeled Yoshinkan Aikido demo. Nobody is pretending to be anything moron.
You're so fucking stupid. How do you pee without wetting your pants?
jamespohh 3 months ago
This video is a perfect example of how disingenuous Aikido pushers are. They have just gotten their own students, put karate gi's on them and said "fall like in class, but pretend you are attacking with karate". There is no karate here. This is a very deceitful method, and demonstrates what Aikido is about.
UpperYarraAquaponics 3 months ago
@UpperYarraAquaponics the gi is worn by nearly every Japanese MA stylist idiot. Aikido can use either the light gi or the the heavier double-weave gi. Yoshinkan Aikido tradition doesn't allow the lower ranking students to wear the black hakama. Only the higher ups wear that.
Go beat up a water bag krotty fart and leave the martial arts stuff to truly knowledgeable people.
jamespohh 3 months ago
@XChaosXSniperX Go for it... I agree you can do it big guy! Find an Aikido Dojo walk in there and challenge the teacher to a proper spar. Get back to us when you've done this and your opinion is based on something other than your imagination. Any vids here of you in action?
MobileMarketingDude 3 months ago
MobileMarketingDude 3 months ago
@MobileMarketingDude lol of course locks and holds work in UFC and MMA. Aikido is not in UFC and MMA because it is "so dangerous" rofl. It is not in UFC and MMA because a trained professional fighter makes mince meat out of an Aikido exponent.
UpperYarraAquaponics 3 months ago
@UpperYarraAquaponics The point is you're learning how to avoid hitting other human beings. Locks and holds are so boring anyway. Why would you want to see more of that anyway? The ideology doesn't fit with MMA which is about feeding the arrogant and base nature. Most Aikidokas come to Aikido from other MA's and can punch and kick fine, but realise that it's part of the problem the world faces, and not part of the solution. My teacher was 4th Dan Shotokan and a competitive kickboxer.
MobileMarketingDude 3 months ago
@MobileMarketingDude I actually totally agree with you (except the idea that competitive combat is always arrogant and base).
UpperYarraAquaponics 3 months ago
@UpperYarraAquaponics O'Sensei's concept is that violence is a result of humans not being at ease with the world or something in that world. Not "at ease" = "dis-eased" Appaently ou have 3 levels to who you are. Base self wants to fight a lot and survives and struggles, middle self wants to cling to control but needs power and is ego driven, and the higher self trancends those ideas to be at one in flow with universal forces grasshopper. He felt that bushido was about establishing peace.
MobileMarketingDude 3 months ago
There is not even a debate in the Karate vs Aikido question; any real martial artist knows this.
UFC and MMA are dominated by karate (kyokushin) and BJJ. Aikido is nowhere to be seen (however some experts will experiment with it for inspiration). There is not a single Aikido "exponent" who has made it in the UFC or MMA. That is because it is functionally useless against a trained fighter.

Kyokushin:
St-Pierre is ranked as the No. 1 Welterweight fighter IN THE WORLD according to Sherdog, MMA Weekly and numerous other publications. St-Pierre is ranked the No. 2 pound for pound fighter IN THE WORLD by ESPN sports, Yahoo! Sports and Sherdog.
However, Aikido has made better movies.

MobileMarketingDude 4 months ago
@MobileMarketingDude
PLEASE, please don't take me wrong. I really love aikido's philosofy on defusing a situation with little to no harm to the attacker, I'm just trying to add with what I experienced.Once we discussed the subject at the dojo i used to attend (wish i could make up time to go back) and i found logic and wisdom when our teacher said we should care for our safety and the ones which we are with first and second for the attacker.
decayedan 4 months ago
@MobileMarketingDude The only thing the ambulance would pick up is the instructor.
zacktillery 4 months ago
@zacktillery If you're sceptical, find a class in your area, tell the teacher and ask if he or she would let you spar properly.. a lot of Aiki's have been through Karate or Judo or other MA's and would enjoy the experience. Useiba the founder, was a 4th Dan Karate and loved it, but the concept is people attack others when not at ease with thier world... not at ease = (or is the same as) dis-eased. Violence and agression is the problem we face as humans and the root cause of suffering.
MobileMarketingDude 4 months ago
@MobileMarketingDude Thats a lovely message, but unfortunately it speaks nothing of the effectiveness of Aikido in a situation of violence. In the example of UFC and MMA - Aikido is useless.
UpperYarraAquaponics 3 months ago
@zacktillery I forgot to say... If attacked by more than one you'd use Aiki-JUTSU which basically means using full version of the technique and break rather than lock. Give other attacker/s the chance to leave peacefully... I've use Aikido a couple of times in the real world and taking someone to the ground gently in a lock and NOT stomping or punching them, makes them feel you're a good bloke... so they automatically stop wanting to fight. That is weird but beautiful.
