The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space - each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made that irrational decision. (Kudos to XKCD for the quote)
A friends (crys) journal friends link had this video linked as part of Discovery's last Landing. I started crying, I'd never heard this but in ealry 80s I used to dream about getting away from one of two jobs to go to Fl and see a Launch. First heard Leslie back at Snow Con in NYC. Feb at statler Pennsylvania 5-6000
I love the people watching in your vid. "Hope Eyrie" and Banned are still top 2 songs but this vid will prob be in top 5 along with your Hope vid
I performed this song as an open mike in East Lansing, MI, the night before Discovery went up in the first flight after the Challenger disaster. (My set of 3 started with Anne Passavoy's "Harbors," then this "Witnesses' Waltz," and ended with Leslie Fish's "Hope Eyrie." I had an audience of fraternity & sorority college students, and they cheered.
A cute song! I downloaded it from itunes recently. If you ever take a long roadtrip or just simply driving to the KSC, play the song! It gets you in the space shuttle mood! It's also a awesome sing-a-long! Thanks for posting!
This is one of my favorite filk songs. I watched the first Shuttle launch and have devoted a good part of my life to helping us get out there. These witnesses are my people.
If I can make it down for July 8th, you can bet I'll be trying to start this as a crowd song.

This is a beautifully done video. You have grabbed the soul of the song and found the most fitting imagery to put with it. Well done.

We go, or we rot on this rock. It's as simple as that.

I love this song, but I have heard that some poor brainless twit in Washington has cut NASA's funding. I sure hope it isn't true.

Definitely try to get your hands on a copy of "Minus Ten and Counting," it has this song and many more with lyrics and sheet music:)
