It's a Yamaha, maybe a CP-70 or a CP-80. These were popular alternatives for the heavy, big grand pianos and the sound was generated by real strings but as the whole thing was smaller the strings were electronically picked up and amplified, which changed the sound into a not only acoustically sounding piano. Also these pianos had partly the mechanic like real pianos like hammers...
I get chills when I watch this. If I could entertain the thought of going back in time... I'd want to be front and center for this performance. What a legend! The man seriously loved to perform and he did it with such feeling. He didn't play the music, he felt it!
The history of rock and roll needs to be rewritten......men like BB got no credit in the invention of rock as we know it. He was influencing Elvis.......that's how far back this man goes. An American icon that we all owe a debt of gratitude.
The solo goes from sweet and buttery to down and nasty with his ability to steer an entire powerhouse band with a single note. What a talent ! Old , fat , diabetic and he's
I once bought a guitar and got lazy to learn. After listening to BB King, I picked up the guitar and started learning blues scales and licks. He might not knew it, but he definitely unconsciously cultivated an army of blues player. Thank god for him! :) Pioneer of blues.
I love the way he gives so much recognition and respect for his fellow musicians on stage. I'm only fifteen years old but I've had the true pleasure to see this man live and knowing that I may have very few chances to do so again is truly heartbreaking. I have taken so much inspiration from this man and it's truly been the greatest of pleasures to listen to his music. I will continue to do so 'till the day I die.
Watched an interview last year with Mr. King. At the end of the interview just as the interviewer was rolling off, B.B. stopped him . In all the years [ some members were with him over 40 years ] , not ONE contract. Just a handshake. THAT says a lot for this MAN !!!
My respect! That's the great, late, James Toney on the keyboards, Wonder if he ever did any solo or lead recordings or performances - a truly great musician who so well complimented and backed up the unique guitar of B B King.
Great example of musical dialog! I saw BB from 15 feet away back in Sept of 1971, just after he released Live at Cook County Jail - his absolute peak! What a show!!!
I find Clapton becoming better with the years. More musical. I like to listen to his acoustic work also. Comparing musicians is risky business, music is not about competition.
i use to think E.C was top three, but he doesnt even compare to the likes of Stevie Ray, Jeff Beck, and soo many more. Clapton is a notch below the gods of the guitar.
I think Clapton is a fantastic blues-rock guitarist and a pretty good blues guitarist, but you're right that he's a notch below those two (and several below B.B. and Freddie King). Now, to his credit, he's only one notch below SRV and Jeff Beck, which is an enormous compliment. Sometimes he manages to play some really genuine and powerful blues (I'm thinking of a great "Have You Ever Loved a Woman Performance"), and his late 60's blues-rock guitar is among the best recorded, but he's overrated.
I Believe that Clapton's a better guitar player than alot of these guys, but when compared to tone, feeling and the genuine grace of his playing he cant compare to BB king, freddie king, buddy guy or any of these oldie blues players. I mean these guys can make u cry with their vivid life filled guitar playing. Doesn't mean clapton isn't amazing himself.
Spot on. I have listened to Clapton and thought for a time that the song was by him before I discovered BB King and the likes of T Bone Walker. Brilliant stuff by BB King here.
You got it right there. It's a shame. BB has lots to say and a ropy old technique (true blues!) and Eric has flashing fingers and absolutely nothing to say.
mate bb king has the best blues technique around it aint ropey..... no ones plays true blues like bb but when ec is on it he is as good as the best... he has lots to say when he is in the right situation...
I first saw this Great man when I was 12 in 1966. A member of our congregation owned a jazz club called Lenny,s on the Pike, on Rte 1 in Ma. Our youth group went to see a Sunday afternoon show there. Oh what a great thing that was. Twelve years old sitting right in front. I got my first guitar just 3 years earlier.Loved the Blues ever since. Thank you BB,
You said it. When B goes we'll be loosing more than just a great guitar player, we'll be loosing a guy who knew how to perform and genuinly loved the music and the audiences he played to. I believe that with out a doubt. He's a great one who has influenced many who have gone on to influence even more just by who he is.
