  • @FlyingGold if arrested development was a series of 45 second skits than yes this is what it would be like. No if you watch them the jokes start layering themselves over the course of 3 seasons. It's absolutely brilliant, the humor is both subtle and snappy, almost 50% of the dialogue has a double meaning, just like the title of the show.

  • @FlyingGold Basing the greatest sitcom in history on a 45 second clip. You are the worst.

  • This joke doesn't really make sense. So basically Gob went out and either bought new, bargained, borrowed, found or stole 3 seperate games of Monopoly in exchange for a 20 dollar bill each time. The odds he simply just had the games hanging around is pretty slim. The energy, time and cost of doing something like that doesn't equal the profit he would make... I mean I get the ridiculousness of it but still...it doesn't work as a clever subtle joke. Doesn't add up well and is just unrealistic.

  • @bdjrs The question is though: have you seen some of Gob's antics?

  • @bdjrs The joke does make sense man, you just haven't got it yet. It's about George Michael having multiple copies of the game, not GOB. Good gag btw, I've seen the pilot maybe 20 times now and never noticed it. AAAAAAHHH! Arrested Development! You got me again!!

  • "This is gonna blow your mind" what an amazing voice!

  • I don't get it.

  • @Haseeebo they keep giving him the game Monopoly over and over again thinking he doesn't have it and he already has a few.

  • Holy fuck, you people know how to ruin a perfectly decent joke. I mean really, does it deserve a debate of any sort. If its funny, its funny, fuck you.

  • F*** anything 9gag.

  • It's the little small jokes like this that make the show so easy to watch over and over again.

  • I feel like an idiot. What am I missing?

  • @BJMCM11 The 3 boxes of Monopoly at the end.

  • @InKa4484 Im clearly not missing the monopoly boxes. I just dont understand how thats funny.

  • Thumbs Up If You Have All 3 Seasons On DVD...that you have watched like 100 times!!!

  • How the fuck did I miss that? No throw-away line went unexploited on this show.

  • Unfortunately subtle gags like this work better for movies than TV shows. Same thing happened with Police Squad/The Naked Gun.

  • Um what am I missing?

  • @gawdofAtheism George Michael has a monopoly on Monopoly board games.

  • i don't get it

  • mr. manager

  • I thought this video was pointing out that George Michael had an erection at first.

  • this ones good. the gobias joke is good too albeit not as subtle.

  • @jcfbell3001 agreed, only a bunch of emos are pretending to like this show in order to look smart

  • @miouth150

lol thanks...I don't typically get much support in dissing AD

  • @jcfbell3001 A bit like your comment, huh?

  • @jcspeb010

lol, no, my comment was unambiguous and straight...to the point...unlike mr funke

  • @jcfbell3001 Actually, the word "joke" merely implies that the show was intended to be funny, as the definition of "joke" is "a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter". Furthermore, humour is subjective, but it's always interesting to encounter self-designated authorities on the matter who take the time to view content on youtube they already know they don't like, and then decide to comment purely for the sake of annoying people.

  • @allpossibleworlds

maybe it's that i accidently met a couple of the actors....bateman was nice but the funke guy was creepy...really angry and sarcastic...wasn't trying to annoy anyone, i just genuinely wonder why the 'cutting-edge' humor now is so full of schadenfreud and sadism...

  • @jcfbell3001 AD isn't for everyone (hence its horrible ratings), although I don't think it is fair to call the show sadistic or mean. I'm curious- what sort of humor do you like? Do you have any favorite TV comedies?

  • @gre913

i like tom and jerry, does that count?

  • surely it would have been more of a joke if he had said that he didn't already have monopoly?

  • The amount of running jokes in this show is ridiculous! I wonder will they keep the old ones going with the new season, or dumb it down. Either way I'm glad it will be back on air.

  • @mcgrathc123 is it really happening? they've been talking about it for years

  • Holy crap that is hilarious.

  • I must one of the slow people that doesn't get the joke. Something about monopoly?

  • @DaveScott69 That means he fell for that trick at least three times.

  • @DaveScott69

It shows that Gob forced monopoly onto George Michael (for a price) numerous times in the past.

  • 9gag shouldnt have credit for anything.

  • seen every episode at least 5x, and i'm constantly finding jokes i hadn't noticed before. incredible show

  • Oh thank goodness. When it started to zoom in i thought it was going to show George-Michael with an erection

  • @irman925 Yea well if you didn't hear, they're making a new season for Netflix this summer and coming out with a movie for next year!

  • @TheWesMorris fucking seriously?

  • Comment removed

  • Love this show, especially Tobias Funke

  • DAMN I've watched this show all the way through at least ten times and I never noticed that!

  • Genius! one of the best comedies ever aired on television.

  • Comment removed

  • just remember... people think that the Big Bang Theory is funny

  • @blatt4815 that's true. the big bang theory is just insulting to anyone of intelligence :/ despite starring quote unquote smart people :/ :/ :/

  • They also play all the monopolies at the end of the episode.

  • FACT: AMERICANS ARE STUPID.

They get rid one of the few intelligent comedies that they've ever made

anyone who bothers to comment is jelly

  • @nooldgrandmaclowns And people who use blanket statements, stereotypes, and generalizations are what? Smart?

  • @nooldgrandmaclowns FACT: YOU ARE STUPID

Americans are not responsible for the cancellation of this show. I speak for many Americans who think this show was amazing, Family Guy is annoying as hell, and still cannot comprehend why people think anything on CBS is remotely entertaining!

  • @Giants2082 You have to agree though, there is a very unintelligent demographic in your country. Although there are many intelligent Americans there is a reason why the world perceives you, in general, as stupid. Just like how we perceive you as fat, even if not every single person is.

  • @nooldgrandmaclowns well... I'll give you the fat thing lol, way too many people here are fat and apparently don't realize it. Last year I saw an obese couple riding through the grocery store on those motorized carts, cramming cookies and ice cream into their baskets. I'm sure those are the same people that will wonder why they can't lose weight--yeah, you win.... Americans are stupid... lol

  • @Giants2082 Oh and i was just trying to be troll with the first comment, don't take too much offense :)

  • @nooldgrandmaclowns Americans? No, the network cancelled it because it didn't have enough views, but they regretted it once netflix was created and everybody started watching it.

  • For a second there I thought it was zooming in on an erection.

  • I dont get any subtle joke here.

  • @STDrepository your kinda like retarded

  • @STDrepository how is this overrated

  • @STDrepository You can't watch only 3 episodes, give up, and then announce that it's "the most unfunny overrated show on TV". A lot of the humour in this show comes from running gags, which you would only notice if you bothered to watch more than 3 episodes.

  • @kendrakeng I suppose this video is one of those "hilarious running gags". Ive seen what kind of show it is, the same people like this like the office, which is an even less funny show.

  • @STDrepository dumb motherfucker

  • @klazz Yes the people that enjoy this show also happen to be the same kind of person that calls people insulting names because they dont like the same show and them.

  • @STDrepository

Methinks there be a troll among us. . . Nice username very crude and inflammatory, I would thank you to try and limit your trolling to political videos and Justin Bieber songs where they are really needed. I on the other hand shall continue watching my stupid show sad that you, my role model, disapproves. Have fun watching "Jackass", I presume you watch it because it fits your personality so perfectly.

  • @garlock007 Someone doesnt understand what troll means. Telling people that AD sucks isnt trolling. cause it does suck. its boring. If you want real comedy, see big bang theory or rules of engagement.

  • @STDrepository Wow big bang theory started off good but after season 2 the jokes were way too obvious and you could tell that they dumbed down the show so that they could have a broader audience. Honestly I bet most people would prefer it if there was a little light that lit up on their tv to tell them when someone is telling a joke.

  • @STDrepository

Telling people that Arrested Development is a bad show while watching a youtube video that could only be found by searching Arrested Development and returning to post even more comments afterwards is the very definition of Trolling. I like the Big Bang Theory though so I'll quote something for you, "Hit Troll with axe! Hit Troll with axe! Hit Troll with axe! Hit Troll with axe! This is one tough troll. . . "

  • So much like stealing...

  • there are users ironically not understanding the joke

  • I don't get the subtle joke, whats funny about a few games of monopoly ? COME ON !

  • God this show never ends, we'll be sat in 50 years time watching it and suddenly going "Aha! I just noticed that joke in the background!"

  • Ha! Man oh man. I've watched every episode of this show at least a dozen times, and I STILL find stuff (like this) that I didn't catch before. The jokes just come too fast and on too many levels.

  • I thought the subtle joke was that he places the 20 dollar bill in his shirt. Doing a bad deed while trying to gain sympathy.

  • wow

  • I think the real joke is acne + erections.. Sort of a mind map for junior

  • This show was too smart for TV. Thanks to fans of Family Guy

  • @Gabagabe1 I enjoy both shows. What does liking Family guy have to do with anything?

  • @MrTyler1022 well we're talking 2003, the year of the glorious ball of fire that was AD finale and also the year of the rising popularity of Family Guy. Now Family Guy is a parody of itself, having to sacrifice consistency for humour and being 3 to 4 years late to all the jokes. But in a sadder world , family guy would have been cancelled back then and AD would be the shadow of it's former self. The multiverse sure is a terrifying concept.

  • @Gabagabe1 Arrested Development was one of the funniest shows ever, but Family Guy is hilarious too, just in a different way.

  • Comment removed

  • @Gabagabe1 I like both.

  • Comment removed

  • @Gabagabe1 Family Guy didn't make people to stupid to get Arrested Development. It just catered to them. This show was to smart for American TV.

  • "uh yeah, i think i might..." hahaaaa

  • Arrested Development subtle joke? The thought this video was going to be the entire three seasons.

  • Actually, when this show was cancelled it was the number 3 show in TV. The reason the ratings were so low was because at the time, they didn't have the technology to count the views coming from DVRs. So, the numbers they were getting didn't actually match the number of people watching. Therefore, Fox cancelled the number 3 show in TV.

  • Joke explanation: The reason why George Michael has 3 boxes of Monopoly is because GOB did that illusion for him 3 times, and obviously took money from George Michael...3 times!

  • IT MEANS THAT JOBE HAS DONE THE TRICK B4 JESUS YOU GUYS ARE STUPID

  • @TubeOnTheInternet it's "Gob"

  • im sorry but i dont get it

  • I don't... what... never mind... :(

  • This was lost on me because I didn't see the exstended cut :(

  • I would never have detected the stack of Monolopies. Unbelievable.

  • Her ?

  • im just glad it wasnt a pun on the erections

  • Ok good one. But what about the background ship called the "hornblower"? The specific episode I remember seeing it in is the one where Lucille blows a horn at Tobias (Afternoon Delight). That's a subtle joke that many people miss.

  • @hotcoco111 @PokemonAndDBZ This is the joke: Gob gives him the Monopoly game and asks George Michael "you don't have it, right?", and George Michael responds "I don't know I think I might". You see later when he's packing up his things in the model home attic that he has his stack of Monopoly games (presumably all gifts from Gob). The family also plays Monopoly together at the end of the episode, but I don't know if that's related to any of that. You have to watch it a few times to get it.

  • I don't get it..explain?

  • I don't get it .

  • One of the show's best qualities is its subtlety. The writers don't thump their chest and rub the jokes in the viewers' faces.

Like Gob telling Michael that he should cut the ribbon on a new project since the shareholders would never approve of a construction worker (Michael) cutting it... And then later on, Gob comes out to cut the ribbon dressed like a construction worker.

    More examples?

  • @blinkuldhc sweet lord you are correct, i love this show.

  • @blinkuldhc I know most people get it but when Michael says to Gob get rid of the SeaWard and Lucile says "I'll leave when I'm good and ready."

  • Arrested Development - The LOST of comedy. Except much better written.

  • Can't wait for the new season this year

  • hahaha i never noticed that at the end there :D

  • "Some say wealth is an illusion, well let's just see....for one moment it's here and in the next....Monopoly, you don't have it do you?....that's good cause a lot of the pieces are missing."

  • indeed, im in my 5th rewatch of the whole series, every time i discover more subtle jokes

  • "packing up" pun

  • At least 6 kids were left behind/

  • "george michael love monopoly" check out banner michael

  • It's because he has 3 sets of monopoly when packing up.

  • @MurkMenthaa Great to know that I'm not the only one that felt compelled to respond to your comment with "Or Candy!" or "Or Cocaine!"...

  • @amanvirdy Yeah! Like a guy with 210 thumbs up would care. COME ON!!!

  • @MurkMenthaa Well in all fairness, I was once voted the worst audience participant Cirque Du Soleil ever had. I'm sorry, I just didn't find their buffoonery amusing!

  • can someone explain this joke to me i don't understand

  • @rarples its funny because he's in the attic.

  • @rarples since gob tells him about the acne and the erections, we expect the camer to be going to his erection when he's in the attic, but it actually goes to his many sets of monopoly

  • @kimmieboy9 I don't think that's the joke. The joke is just that he now has 3 sets of Monopoly when we just thought he had two.

  • @deviledtoast Maybe it is implying that this isn't the first time that Gob has pulled this stunt.

  • @rarples his uncle is selling him used monopoly games under the guise of performing an illusion.duhh.just kidding.and I may be corrected

  • hahaahahaahaah, that was amazing.

  • regaurdless its funny anyway you look at it.. for me it is..

  • he might have done that multipul times and the pieces of one box spread through the 3 but where did the other 2 boxes come from? maby he only found the box and then spread em whic might have been why pieces were missing...... or one pf the funny parts was just the insignificant fact that pieces were missing.... just a thought..

  • So extended pilot... do you get that on the dvd or something?

  • That's why this show is worth several rewatches. There are many more of those subtle jokes that took me ages to find. I'm wondering how many I have yet to find.

  • @IKe145 I first watched it and thought it was pretty good. I watched it again and so many "Ohs!" happened and than it was one of the best shows in my opinion. The show is so dense, too dense for the general public if you ask me, that's one reason why views were poor.

  • even better is the episode with the public relations person in season 1 where george michael says he got a homeless man to get away from the stand without hurting his feelings... (then shows a homeless man with a balloon) and later in the episode it shows a newspaper with an article on how bad the bluths are (the cold hard bluth) and right next to it is an article with a headline reading "old man gets a balloon"

  • You can also see a subliminal image of it at the end of 0:36 seconds when he is thinking about it.

  • Comment removed

  • There's SO many "in-episode" jokes and references... this show really is the very best... and that's an understatement!

  • Here's another subtle joke I just got. In "The Ocean Walker", Lucille and George Sr. tell Rita's uncle that Michael and Rita ran off to Legoland. The uncle comes back at the end of the episode for a brief second to take Rita back to England wearing a Legoland shirt.

  • I NEVER NOTICED THAT!

  • Or when buster finds his hand chair in the maids house and says he never thought he'd miss a hand so much

  • This show mastered it! "You'll never be hand fed again," as Gob sets the seal free. And to take off from Ozziefan, they mention a "wee brain girl" in a newspaper later.

  • The best subtle joke is when Buster is sitting on a bench before he is attacked by a seal. The bench says Army Office (I think) but you can only see Arm Off. Or when Rita is on a Wee Britain bench and you can see Wee Brain.

Hard to believe anyone could catch those when they saw the show first!

  • @0zziefan Hah, that's awesome! Didn't notice either of those, but I love that they put them there.

  • First there's wealth, then . . . Monopoly! But there are pieces missing from the Bluth monopoly . . .

  • ALL jokes in this show are subtle. And they're not jokes, they're comedic discourses; jokes are what a clown tells for money.

  • @MurkMenthaa or candy

  • @MurkMenthaa Or cocaine.

  • @MurkMenthaa

Or what a whore does for tricks.

  • @MurkMenthaa Or cocaine...

  • @MurkMenthaa or cocaine :)

  • @MurkMenthaa

    ...Or candy.

  • @MurkMenthaa or cocaine

  • @MurkMenthaa Or cocaine...

  • @MurkMenthaa or cocaine.

  • @MurkMenthaa Or cocaine!

  • @MurkMenthaa or cocainnnnnne!!

  • @MurkMenthaa i bet you call comic books graphic novels too, you geek.

  • @Kodama28 Why are you watching videos of a show you've never seen?

  • @SuperPoopMaster007 i've seen every episode multiple times. why do you make stupid youtube comments? don't you realize that NOBODY cares and that most people reading your comment think that you're an idiot?

  • @MurkMenthaa Or Candy ;)

  • @MurkMenthaa Shut up you pompous ass.

  • @MurkMenthaa or cocaine!

  • @MurkMenthaa or cocaine
