@lastdayinsin3 Na I actually like clean vocals and harmonies fella. I like Vampire Weekend and Radiohead as well as The Black Daliah Murder. My thing is all of their previous works were so much more thought out and original, this is just simplistic, poppy, and frankly lacking true soul. When I bought the CD/DVD combo I was watching the meanings of thier songs were and I was utterly shocked when they were pretty much about nothing. I hate tasteless music, I hope Mastodon grows from this.

I think you have your ears on backwards. Listen to the rest of the album. And throughout their discography they've mostly sung about nothing at all. The guys in Mastodon seem to be rarely serious about anything besides playing their instruments. Hell, Devin Townsend sings about Aliens and fart jokes, and he is heads and shoulders above the majority of musicians you'll find.

@lastdayinsin3 Don't condescend dude, Blood Mountain and their other albums were FULL of in-depth songs with complex time signatures and progressive elements. Just about every song on this record starts and ends the same way. It's not that they weren't serious man that's not what I was saying it's that it's more thought out and arranged better than this garbage. And Devin Townsend sucks, saw him live and he sucked even more then. But that's just how I feel about him.

@Dundergobben Watch the official video for Colony of Birchmen, they not only do the same thing with making the vocals sound more "melodic," but they completely cut out Troy's pre-chorus part because he's yelling it. I can't stand Warner for doing crap like that, but they limit it to the music videos pretty exclusively.

@sochioranmyaku Did anyone know that song is about the odd spirals or rings that grow in some trees. People and chop them down because these curls are used for their unique design and are very expensive. Obviously this guy chops them down and sells them for drug money. And so you get the Curl of the Burl, cool concept for a song and based on true events.
