This is such an amazing piece!!! You appreciate it so much more after you know the story and after you play it!! It's amazing!! I highly recommend playing this piece if you are a string player!! :)
@ashgal89 do you know where i can get the sheet music?? i play violin in an advanced string orchestra in middle school and i would love to play it! probably a little difficult but i think i could manage ;)
@thejndsho Welll...i'm actually not sure! I'm sure any sheet music store would have it. Or you might have to order it online somehwere. My orchestra teacher had provided it for us. So I didn't have to purchase it. But yes its extremely hard...the timing is wierd and the key that it is in is wierd..but still amazing :)
@thejndsho my advanced high school orchestra is playing it and our music teacher got it for us, so idk really probably one of those liscensed songs you have to pay for from some place
Greatest composers of the 20th centunary in my opinion: 1: Gustav Mahler 2: Richard Strauss 3: Dimitri Shostakovich 4: Jean Sibelius 5: Sergej Rachmaninov 6: Maurice Ravel 7: Carl Nielsen 8: Igor Stravinsky 9: Bela Bartok
@SonofDostojevskij : not Carol Schymanowski but Karol Szymanowski. He was polish composer and musician, becouse of that his name should be writen in polish
i love it when the 2nd violin, viola, and cello come in together. best part.

Are there multiple recordings of this piece by Emerson? My Emerson recording sounds nothing like this. It's way, way better. Strange.

Excellent. This put me in mind of Franz Kafka's novel The Trial.
Thank you so much.

ah this is my ultimate FAVE movement!!!
ah knowing the story behind Shostakovich writing this symphony helped SOO much in recognizing all the symbolic parts in the piece.
AMAZING job to whomever performed this!
