His grandmother saw it & asked him if he had bought it for her. It would have been rude if he said it wasn't for her. She'd probably be so disappointed. He didn't want to be rude, so he just lied that he did and gave it to her without a choice.
So he's not really a jerk~ He is just being a respectful grandson~^^
