I'm a little uncomfortable that I'm completely unable to verify ANY of the claims he's made. I couldn't find any information about the C-135, there's nothing to support his claim about drugs being necessary to the US economy. If anyone can direct me to a source, I would be most appreciative.  So far this is a whole bunch of insubstantiated unrelated nonsense.

My argument is not that EVERY piece of information he uses can't be traced. It's just certain, more amazing claims that have no sourcing. THe fact that some claims have sourcing does not excuse the more outrageous stories that seem to have no basis in reality, at least as far as I have been able to obtain. First, it's fairly easy to judge a more extraordinary claim from a basic one. "George Washington was born on Feb 22," vs. "George Washington never told a lie." Which claim is going to require more work to validate? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The C-130 (sorry for the error) that I was referring to was the one found in Mexico with $1 billion of cocain. It starts at about 4:15 of the third section. I have found absolutely NOTHING to substantiate this story.

Ahh, now this is interesting. I found an article about a C-130 found in Mexico in 1998. There was cocaine abord but the value of the drugs was $3.6 MILLION. A lot of money, to be sure, but hardly a blip for the US economy. This validates most of my suspicions about this Ruppert fellow: every time I can find a source he has either wildly exaggerated or misrepresented the actual facts. This is troublesome to me. I'm still looking for the trillions of dollars laundered through the banks here...

By all means, then, find me the article about the plane with $1 billion of coke on it. He used that story to establish the notion that United States' banks launder trillions of dollars. Find me something to support that.

Obviously drug trafficking is a huge issue. Iran Contra, an incident that can be understood in great detail from a variety of sources, shows government compliance, or at least indifference. This doesn't mean every story Ruppert comes up with is true. Find those sources...

This brings up an article about a Columbian C-130 seized at Hollywood airport. Ruppert clearly says the plane he's talking about was found in Mexico City.

Look, high ranking government officials and military personnel clearly have a dirty hand in drug trafficking, mostly through Iran contra. I don't, however, see how it helps to either grossly exaggerate or make up stories. We shouldn't be cherry-picking things that support a particular story, this is what the Bush administration does.

I did check out reported prices in the US and 1 billion sigifies a C-130 filled to nearly max capacity and sold in the hottest areas.

It comes down to what the value is expressed as 3.6 milliom migth as well be the production cost. The police probably has more detailed documentation on this matter.

The plane was found with approximately 600 kilos, give or take 60 kilos depending on your news source (Mass media). High grade cocaine is roughly $55000 (wholesale)at current prices. This would mean that it was $3300000. At $250 a gram street value, the cocaine was worth approximately $150000000.

Third, the article I found was EXPLICIT in describing the price at $3.6 million. No weight was given, what article did you find.

Finally, all that being said $150 million is significantly less than a billion.

Google "cocaine Columbia C-130" CNN, New York times etc. etc. were amongst the first to come up. All the figures were different which tells me they lie. You talk about quoting sources when Mike clearly states his.

Ruppert has given no source, nor have we been able to find a single source, refferencing a C-130 discovered in Mexico with $1billion of cocaine. Nor have we been able to find ANY plane ANYWHERE with that much cocaine on it.

The reason I find this significant is that gross exaggeration of funds was one of the primary ways Big Dick and Dubya drummed up so much retarded fear about Osama and Saddaam. If Columbian drug lord's are making $1bil a shipment, they can buy stealth bombers.

Let me also add that if you're paying $55,000 for your cocaine, you're getting cheated. The New York Times (Oct. 26, 2008) wrote an article bemoaning the steep RISE in cocain prices to $30K a kilo. If that constitutes a shockingly high cost, your $55K number seems a little off.

That would put the total amount at $18million (600kilos X $30,000). Notice that even at your price, $55,000/kilo, the total price of the cocaine is $33million.

Multiply by cost per kilo, OR cost per gram, not both.

Now the cost of cocaine in Mexico is about $7000per Kilo, and $30,000 in the US (Miami or New York). That means coke costs a little over 4x more in the US than it does in Mexico.

Even if the report was referring to the price of cocaine in Mexico City, where the C-130 was found, that $3.6 million would only be $14.4 million in the US. Still off by a factor of 100.
