@ShamaraLofton That would be a good alternative, though probably not as effective to be honest. You could also try circulating the heat from a blow dryer over top of the saran wrap for about 10 min. Again, probably not as effective as a hooded dryer but it would be a good way to improvise!
@77deerose I use a light protein before a relaxer (like a protein conditioner) and then a heavier protein after a relaxer (protein treatment, like nexxus emergencee) in order to build the strength back up.
@anmllvr234 yes! deep condition with every wash until you feel a difference in the texture and overall health of your hair! It really does make a difference!
I don't have a perm but I totally agree that Nexxus does do what it says it will do. Very good quality line. And I was so shocked that your hair stayed wrapped without pins for that one minute that u took your hands off your hair...
WOW YOUR HAIR REGIMIN VERY SIMILAR TO MINES!!! I use emergencie every 2 months and also rollerset and wrap. MY hair is also about your length except for the front because i had bangs. we're like hair twins! lol
Thanks! I shampoo about once per week. I cowash mainly in the summers when I wash more than once per week (due to heat/sweat). In that case, I do one shampoo wash and one cowash per week :)
I typically shampoo BEFORE applying the emergencee. After the emergencee has hardened in my hair, I rinse it out in the shower, and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner to soften it back up :)
Hi! I just stumbled upon your blog and I must say that after only watching 6 of your chapters, I am exhilarated!
I'm finally trying to take care of my hair after what seemed to be a lifetime of braids and I was so disheartened. College is expensive enough and I can't afford to keep going to a hair salon every week. I had no idea what to do to keep my hair healthy, strong and long but you're videos give me so much hope!!! You're my new hero!
Your videos will help me in my attempt to be less reliant on hair stylists. I've learned how to retouch my relaxers and now I'm learning how to roller set/wrap. Thank you so much for being generous enough to share your regimen.
No problem! That's great that you've learned how to do your own relaxers... if I could master that, I would really never need to go to a stylist...except for trims ;-)
Thanks :) My stylist relaxes my hair with Mizani butter blends relaxer, but I think the key for healthy-looking hair is to relax less frequently. I only get touch-ups every 3 months or longer.
Your hair is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for being so detailed in your videos. You are certainly my inspiration, I have a long way to do but I know it is possible. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for the compliments! I hope I can continue being an inspiration to you...keep going after your goals and I'm sure you'll reach them all! :-D
Hi- I currently have a Pibbs 514 professional salon dryer. It's expensive, but works amazingly and dries the hair much faster and more efficiently than other dryers. Before I got "serious" about my hair game, I had a pink, Ion brand tabletop dryer from Sally's, which did the trick while I was starting out.
Thanks, dear. I will try to do a rollerseting vid in the fall when it gets cool enough to be back under the dryer!! For now I'm getting by on wash and gos and twist outs :)
Thank you :) Any type of moisturizing conditioner will work - to counteract the hard, drying effect of the protein. My staple moisturizing conditioner is Phyto Organics Humectin- but you can chose whatever works best for you as long as it is packed with MOISTURE!! :-)
I just wanted to THANK YOU for your info regarding the hardcore protein treatment days after the relaxer touchup. I just did that this past weekend, and my ongoing problem with breakage/weakness seemed to just disappear! I still have occasional breakage problems, but using Emergencee like that helped me TREMENDOUSLY. Thank you again!!! Please keep your videos coming. :-)
That was very sweet of you to come back and post a testimonial! I'm so glad the tips worked for you. I wouldn't lie to you guys- I only make videos about things that have really made a difference in my hair. Be sure to use Emergencee at most once per month- it's a hard protein that will make your hair brittle if you use it too frequently. Be sure to follow up with a very moisturizing conditioner treatment as well. Stay tuned for more videos! :)
Hehe, the name is kind of misleading...they don't have any special magnetic properties (that I know of), the basically work like any other roller but they are very smooth to roll the hair onto and they secure tightly with metal clips. I bought these kind of rollers because they don't leave dents in my hair or cause breakage and they come in a variety of sizes!
Why does you do the protein treatment after a relaxer? I have never heard of that. I am familiar with people doing it a week prior to their relaxer. I can see that it works for you because you have a beautiful head of healthy hair. I'm just curious.
The relaxer process destroys the protein bonds that hold the hair shaft together- thus relaxing the strand and making it straighter. Using protein AFTER a relaxer helps to build back up the protein content of the hair to make it stronger and more resilient. Basically, it helps to undo some of the damage caused by the relaxer :-) Doing it beforehand simply helps to build up the strength of the strands so they can take more abuse.
Thanks so much. I take all of you ladies' comments seriously and use them to improve my videos, so please let me know if you have any comments, questions or suggestions :) Thanks for watching!
Hi dear, what products would you advice i use on my hair for growing it longer?my hair used to be a little shorter than yours; like shoulder length but its now neck length because i dyed it.pls what do you recommend.your hair is very lovely and i want to start growing otherwise i feel like cutting it as it looks disgusting.thanx for any feedback u give.
Wait! Don't cut it just yet. Your hair can make a comeback with just a few healthy hair practices such as not relaxing/relaxer stretching, using minimal heat, protective styling, moisturizing and using quality products. I plan to do a video soon about healthy haircare basics, since a lot of people have similar questions :-) Hang in there!
I think my stylist uses Dudley's cream relaxer, which contains lye. But I have not been one to adhere to any particular relaxer brand (maybe I should?), so if I switched stylists, my relaxer would probably switch, too...
you really love your nexxus products!! so how often do you do protein treatments? Are you supposed to wrap hair when it is wet or dry? Does it work better with saran wrap??
I like to stick with 1 or 2 product lines b/c it allows my hair to get used to a routine and I consistent results. I do protein treatments "as needed", but it's generally every other week. I alternate moisturizing deep conditioners (DCs) and protein DCs so my hair gets everything it needs. Basically, I "listen" to my hair. I only do heavy proteins (Emergencee) right after a relaxer. I never wet wrap my hair-To get the effect of the saran wrap treatment, you need to do it on clean, dry hair.
Thank you :) There are no shortcuts to healthy hair, just good ol' time, patience and nurturing! I took a serious approach to haircare nearly 2 years ago, starting out with buying quality products and building a regimen centered around low heat. Though there's no silver bullet, I would say eliminating/minimizing direct heat has been the single most important thing that has allowed my hair to thrive :)
Glad you enjoyed the video :) I got my variety pack of rollers from walgreens (or some equivalent drugstore) but you could also get them from any beauty supply store in whatever sizes you want/need.
ur hair doesnt sweat from using the seran wrap?

As an alternative to sitting under the dryer (for those who don't have one) can I use a hot towel over the saran wrap for the same results?
