I recently bought a 3 month old black-eyed cream syrian hamster and I built this maze for him. The second we put him in the maze, he got out and wondered round my room, do not make it 6 inches long, make it 20 inches long if you dont want your hamster to climb out of it like mine did. DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOT OF CARDBOARD, we used all the cardboard which was used to wrap up a kitchen table from IKEA......enjoy!

But I still has my hamster alive, I adopted him in December last year, but I never had conditions to make a obstacle course or a maze for my hamster, but he's still alive. I hope my wish come true before my hamster kick the bucket. But I'm very sorry for hearing a awful thing like this. I wait that someday you get another hamster to replace your dead one.

1 - Hot Glue is NOT posiness. The base material for Hot Glue sticks is "Ethylene-vinyl acetate", which as you may have guessed, is plastic. So because of plastic's insolubility in water and relative chemical inertness, it's not toxic, and therefor safe for pets.

@Elliottslingsby 2 - Even if the people building these mazes didn't use hot glue, the only glues that would support cardboard (A wood based material), would be Vinyl glues. Which is things like "Polyvinyl Acetate", also known as common wood glue, or PVA glue. And PVA glue is known for it's safety to kids and it's cheapness to manufacture.

Find a very large piece of flat Lego for the floor.

Have lots of pieces of Legos for the Walls and barriers.

Put a bowl of non-sugary cereal at the end of the maze.

Let your hamster or gerbil find its' way through the maze.
