  • Amazing that this one little "fish" can threaten so many peoples religion. I don't go to the creationist pages and claim that its a hoax, why do you idiots come here?

  • It matters not that Tiktaalik was found as predicted, those who cling to the supernatural modus operandi will never change their minds based on facts, they have too much invested to admit to being wrong.

  • Tiktaalik has been found not to be a transitional fossil. Will this be ignored like usual when evolution is found to be wrong?

  • @jaredr4125

In what way is tiktaalik not a transitional fossil? What is the definition of a transitional form? How do you describe the evolution of tetrapods? What about Ichthyostega,Acanthostega,Panderichthys? What did Ray comfort tell you about those? they are hoaxes as well?

  • Well, nothing about Lucy but fascinating

nevertheless! I now know all about our

    wonderful Tiktaalik.

  • I hope this video will have something about

'Lucy'!! So many ppl on the internet try to

fight me on my insistence that Lucy is a

    Hominid.

  • Lucy was proved to be a hoax. Live with it.

  • "Lucy was proved to be a hoax."

    lolwut

    (citation needed)

  • You can reseach it! Don't believe in something that is proven to be a lie! Seriously!

  • how is it a hoax...? Once again citation please. Last time I checked it's valid.

  • No offense but, where did you get the information that Lucy was a hoax lol. I am quite sure you are mixing up Piltdown Man with Lucy. Lucy has been studied by numerous scientists and is a beautiful trace of our evolutionary past. Piltdown was a hoax.

Give me a citation...nothing more. It needs to be from a university database or scientific journal.

  • Type "Lucy a hoax" into your search engine and look for "Australopithecus Afarensis, Or Lucy, Is Found To Be A Hoax." That has the whole story on it.

  • @HEIGHTSIXFIVE: Lie? Provide references when you say that. Have there been hoaxes and wishful thinking and leading the data, yes. So, what lie are we to not believe? Despite the exaggerations and hoaxes, science corrects itself.

  • wrong alert

  • @HEIGHTSIXFIVE

lucy isn't a hoax, you fucking asshole

  • That wasn't a very nice introduction.

  • lol what is what these introductions? It's borderline hilarious how many people they need to introduce to introduce the speakers of these lectures. Either way thanks for the upload.

  • Oh, I see now, you type out the actual time the speaker makes entry in the description box! Thanks for going the extra 1.609344 kilometres!

  • "what is what these introductions?"

I run a speaker series where I work. I always start things off, because everyone recognizes me. If the speaker is not famous, I might leave it with that. For the more luminary among the speakers, I will request a higher-up in the company do the introduction.

  • Ya that's cool, I mean I understand, "Speaking here tonight will Joe Blow, expert in Blowology and being a Joe, and two time winner of the Blow-Out Prize and now without further interruptions here's the man of the hour himself...", but these guys introduce someone, that will introduce someone else, that introduces the next guy who finally introduces the speaker. Is it just because they want everyone to score some podium time or what?

  • First, I think the speaker deserves a better introduction than what I can do. I don't know about other places, but I sometimes have a bit of trouble getting people to show up even when the speaker is well-known, so having a higher up in the company attending is a draw (also having cookies is a draw). Finally, it's a way to honor the speaker, to make sure she knows we consider her decision to speak for us as an honor (of course I feel that way about all (my) speakers).

  • Ok, so what you're saying is each introducer acts both as a crowd-drawer and as a seal of approval? That makes sense I guess. Thanks for filling me in!

  • WANT MOAR

  • Youtube partners can upload videos longer than 10 mins.

  • "Water breathing to air breathing" - BAH! They both respire OXYGEN. "Water supported to land supported" - BAH! They both had to deal with FRICTION and GRAVITY.

Hahahaha.. the point is, the more things change, the more they stay the same :P

  • @RyuDarragh He's talking about the organs that changed. We can't use water in the same way a fish can't use air. DIfferent process to meet the same needs.

  • TO ANYONE READING THIS if you havn't read Neil Shubin's book Your Inner Fish, READ IT NOW! It's the most entertaining book on the subject of evolution I've ever read.

  • I agree, Your Inner Fish is well written and interesting, even if you know the subject until, say, the late nineties.

A very good backgrounder is What the Fossils Say - and why it matters by Donald Prothero. Also looks good on the coffee table ;).

  • titaalik is adorables :-)

  • I signed up for a "director" account back in 2006.

    ;D

    thanks

  • lol... you know this video is going to be a cornucopia of quotemines for creationists.

  • Probably, but nobody takes them seriously.

  • Starts at about 2:30 if you want to shave off some useless time.

  • RabidApe is win.

  • Golly Gee! Interesting! :P

  • Thank you so much for sharing this RabidApe!

  • William Lester seems a bit nervous for some reason, a bit short of breath.

  • I just finished reading his book and this speech basically sums up what is in the book, very nice^^

  • Awesome.

  • Shubin is at 5:50 if you don't want to watch intros.

  • A particularly gripping presentation, not only is it informative and educational, it's also entertaining, I just loved the humour in his presentation, the one aspect that stopped me from slipping into the arms of Morpheus.

  • It's an introduction to an introduction to an introduction!

  • Go Shubin!!!

  • Damn Ape, you've been cranking out these mirrors like mad. Arigatou Gozaimasu, a thousand times.

  • Creationist need to watch this, and stop spewing that Transitional fossils don't exist.

  • that's the problem, they ignore them

  • Agreed. Cover the eyes and plug the ears.

  • Just ignore them they're morons.

  • Kujien - Can't ignore the IDiots - these liars are miseducating everyone, causing trouble for advancing basic science.
