Amazing how REASON didn't even figure they should add a "MONO/STEREO" switch. It is very hard to figure out how to record in MONO, thus everything i record is either on the left or the right side. Anyone know a way around this? I have an external soundcard (interface) and am using a PC (vista).
@daeser1 Reason's live sampling input works the way a lot of hardware machine inputs work (and even a lot of home VCRs). If you plug into the left sampling input ONLY, then it works in mono. If you plug into both, it records a stereo sample. If you're hooking up a mono source then just make sure the right input of the sampling input on the back of the rack is unplugged and you'll get a mono recorded sample.
I watched this early last night after work. I was up till 2:30am making beats using sampling in the Redrum. It's sick! Can't wait to start sampling with NN-XT! I just spent some time at a producer friend's house sampling his old synths and an out of tune piano with an SM-57 and can't wait to put those in Reason as NN-XT instruments. THANK YOU!
Using a Blue Yeti mic (or trying to), when I record the volume is extremely soft. I pretty much have to turn input volume all the way up in System Preferences as well as in MIDI Manager. Any ideas?
How do you connect a mic? i plugged mine in and when i hit the live sampliing button nothing comes up when i make sound. Any i deas why its not working?
@theguvnerpresents I'm a big believer in Final Cut Pro's 3-way color corrector and some other in house filters. That's what I use more than anything else by far. Then a lot of my image capture style is also happening in the camera by my choice of shutter speed, lens aperture, iso, etc.
It's a shame this is so difficult to get working. I have a mic that works in every other sound program but Reason 5 will not pick it up. I have tried the ASIO4ALL driver, it still won't work. Maybe in Reason 6 this can be streamlined a bit to work with more mics!
@kindofallpedia It should work with every mic. Have you contacted our support guys to help you troubleshoot? They're really good at this stuff and friendly too. :) head over to our website propellerheads dot se /support
I'm using a microphone through an Mbox, when I record my sample it sounds fine, but when I play it back it only comes out of the left side of my headphones (only in mono not stereo), any idea how to fix this? please let me know
@remopns Couple of ideas. First, if you're recording a mono sample from a mono source (microphone), try only wiring the hardware input to the LEFT sampler input only. That will record mono sample. So if you have a mic plugged into input 1, when connect the input 1 to the sampler input LEFT. Don't connect or disconnect input 2 from sample input RIGHT.
@PropellerheadSW Awesome. I had the same question. Thanks! Loving it. FYI, I have my mic input from channel/input 2 from my Mbox 2 pro so unplugging the right side input didn't work. Fortunately I remembered that I had the mic going that way so it works fine to unplug the left side of the audio input to record mono from input 2.
I'm trying to use the sample feature with a USB mic, but I'm not getting any signal coming through. I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard using Reason 5 of course. Is there a preference I need to change in Reason? Please help!
@knansd Make sure you've selected the USB mic as the input in Mac's System Preferences and also make sure you've selected it in the Audio Preferences in Reason. If you select "Built In Output" only there will be no input but you should have an option like "Built In Output + XYZ Sound Device", but obviously XYZ Sound Device would actually be your mic's name. I use a USB mic (the Plantronics DA 40 adapter) and it shows up like that.
I seem to get a very low level audio input when using my external soundcard for live sampling, but when I use my MacBook Pro in-built soundcard, I have no problems. The soundcard works flawlessly with other audio programs...
I can't figure out how to get my mic to work on the sampling. With my poor budget I have a tiny rear panel 3.5 mm jack mic, a basic one made by microsoft. I can play back the mic on most of my programs such as skype and audacity, but i can't figure out how on Reason. I have Reason 5 and when I look at the rear panel and plug in audio input to sampling input, the LED is red. What am I doing wrong?
@JoeMooProductions Your mic will work and the beauty of live sampling is that the quality of the mic doesn't hamper the creative potential of the sample editing and other things you can do with live sampling. Many people use their internal laptop mics to get great ideas out. I'm not a PC guy but from what I understand, you need to install the ASIO4ALL generic ASIO sound driver and set your mic to work with that and choose that as your Reason sound driver. Good luck!

@PropellerheadSW Is there any way to sample internal sounds? I have a lot of samples in my itunes library I'm just wondering if you can use reason's sampling function to sample internal sounds as well?
@xskullsnapzx Sure thing. I believe on the mac a lot of people do it via SoundFlower. Basically it lets you set up an internal audio input in your mac control panels. Set the mac's output to SoundFlower 2 Chanel. Now set the Reason input to Soundflower 2 Chanel. Then you sample like normal in Reason. While you're sampling, you won't hear anything because the routing is all internal but the sample will be recorded. Thanks for the good question.

@AntoineBigAnt Certainly! :) If it makes a noise, you can sample it. Now, how about a free patch of that guitar arpeggio that you had created so that we can learn even more be seeing and observing? Also, Is that how you really pronounce it? Ré-drum? Or Reeedrum? I love this feature and I love all your promotional videos. They make a great selling point. What I don't understand is, why you would poke fun at companies that come out with sample libraries? What does one do when they want to use a violin or a cello? Those libraries are created for a purpose different from what reason is here (which is quite niche I must say)...so what's with the taunt?
@rjk1482 Sample libraries are amazing tools. We have our own Piano, Bass, Drum, and Orchestral libraries so we totally see the value of them. What we're doing is drawing a distinction. We're saying this feature is not meant for recording massive libraries...but also that those libraries aren't meant for fast creative manipulation. They'll give you a perfect cello and that's great. This will give you a totally new sound. That's aslo great. We think having both tools is the perfect choice.
guess what i have already test to sample my own beat box with kong and adding noise sound to the "oomps" bass drum mouth and it was perfect ^^ definitly i love the live sampling feature much more than any voice pitch correction ^^.
"live sampling is BACK in Reason"? I guess they're talking about the art, or was this a feature in previous versions? I didn't really get into reason until 3.0.
i always watch these videos really god damn late at night and get inspired to stay up even later.

I love this feature and I love all your promotional videos. They make a great selling point. What I don't understand is, why you would poke fun at companies that come out with sample libraries? What does one do when they want to use a violin or a cello? Those libraries are created for a purpose different from what reason is here (which is quite niche I must say)...so what's with the taunt?
rjk1482 1 year ago
@rjk1482 Sample libraries are amazing tools. We have our own Piano, Bass, Drum, and Orchestral libraries so we totally see the value of them. What we're doing is drawing a distinction. We're saying this feature is not meant for recording massive libraries...but also that those libraries aren't meant for fast creative manipulation. They'll give you a perfect cello and that's great. This will give you a totally new sound. That's aslo great. We think having both tools is the perfect choice.

"live sampling is BACK in Reason"? I guess they're talking about the art, or was this a feature in previous versions? I didn't really get into reason until 3.0.

@charlieplatnum no, Reason brings live sampling back (from obscurity). Like Timberlake brings sexy back.

Reason needs Recycle built in to Dr. Octo-Rex. Or something where I can edit an mp3/.wav file directly.
