  • i plugged my mic in but im not getting a signal

  • ROFLMAO!!!!!!!! Now I can't stop hitting my singer to make sounds!!!! XD

  • Amazing how REASON didn't even figure they should add a "MONO/STEREO" switch. It is very hard to figure out how to record in MONO, thus everything i record is either on the left or the right side. Anyone know a way around this? I have an external soundcard (interface) and am using a PC (vista).

  • @daeser1 Reason's live sampling input works the way a lot of hardware machine inputs work (and even a lot of home VCRs). If you plug into the left sampling input ONLY, then it works in mono. If you plug into both, it records a stereo sample. If you're hooking up a mono source then just make sure the right input of the sampling input on the back of the rack is unplugged and you'll get a mono recorded sample.

  • I watched this early last night after work. I was up till 2:30am making beats using sampling in the Redrum. It's sick! Can't wait to start sampling with NN-XT! I just spent some time at a producer friend's house sampling his old synths and an out of tune piano with an SM-57 and can't wait to put those in Reason as NN-XT instruments. THANK YOU!

  • Thank you for everything you're doing at Propellerhead with the crew!

  • My head is exploding more every time I use @PropellerheadSW creations.

  • @TonyBtheEG Thats so true. I love Propellerhead! thanks for all the inspiration!!

  • If all these mouse clicking can be mapped to be pressed with Midi controllers instead, I'm sold.

  • Using a Blue Yeti mic (or trying to), when I record the volume is extremely soft. I pretty much have to turn input volume all the way up in System Preferences as well as in MIDI Manager. Any ideas?

  • Question for Propellerhead? Y U SOFTWARE SO GUUD?

  • How do you connect a mic? i plugged mine in and when i hit the live sampliing button nothing comes up when i make sound. Any i deas why its not working?

  • Haha, "slightly dented handheld".. That beyer is one of the best mics you can use for acoustic guitar ;)

  • 2:37 hurr derp

  • im using mbox mini through a mixer..every time i try to sample its only come mono(left) ..how do i flip it to sterio? thx from norway

  • @NadStarMusic What I would try is wiring your audio input to the sample input using only the Left out and Left in.... If your using a mono mic...

  • do the sampling devices only come with record? i have reason 5 and cant find any of the samplinf devices

  • @Egungon There should be a sample button on all the sampler devices in your reason 5 rack!

  • yo this company got cense of humor! nice! i like this video!

  • brilliant tutorial.

  • do you care to share what type of filters you use on the videos afterwards?

    any info would be awesome!

  • @theguvnerpresents I'm a big believer in Final Cut Pro's 3-way color corrector and some other in house filters. That's what I use more than anything else by far. Then a lot of my image capture style is also happening in the camera by my choice of shutter speed, lens aperture, iso, etc.

  • It's a shame this is so difficult to get working. I have a mic that works in every other sound program but Reason 5 will not pick it up. I have tried the ASIO4ALL driver, it still won't work. Maybe in Reason 6 this can be streamlined a bit to work with more mics!

  • @kindofallpedia It should work with every mic. Have you contacted our support guys to help you troubleshoot? They're really good at this stuff and friendly too. :) head over to our website propellerheads dot se /support

  • @kindofallpedia im having the same problem :S

  • help me anyone

i have my usb mixer connected to my laptop and i have my microphone connected to my usb mixer

for w.e reason when i try to record on record 1.5 its not reading ...

i changed the audio prefences to the usb mixer already n when i speak to the mixer the lights go on but its not showing up in record

when i try it to garage band it work just fine so i dont know what im doing wrong with record ?

    help!!

  • I'm using a microphone through an Mbox, when I record my sample it sounds fine, but when I play it back it only comes out of the left side of my headphones (only in mono not stereo), any idea how to fix this? please let me know

  • @remopns Couple of ideas. First, if you're recording a mono sample from a mono source (microphone), try only wiring the hardware input to the LEFT sampler input only. That will record mono sample. So if you have a mic plugged into input 1, when connect the input 1 to the sampler input LEFT. Don't connect or disconnect input 2 from sample input RIGHT.

  • @PropellerheadSW Awesome. I had the same question. Thanks! Loving it.

  • @PropellerheadSW Awesome. I had the same question. Thanks! Loving it. FYI, I have my mic input from channel/input 2 from my Mbox 2 pro so unplugging the right side input didn't work. Fortunately I remembered that I had the mic going that way so it works fine to unplug the left side of the audio input to record mono from input 2.

  • I'm trying to use the sample feature with a USB mic, but I'm not getting any signal coming through. I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard using Reason 5 of course. Is there a preference I need to change in Reason? Please help!

  • @knansd Make sure you've selected the USB mic as the input in Mac's System Preferences and also make sure you've selected it in the Audio Preferences in Reason. If you select "Built In Output" only there will be no input but you should have an option like "Built In Output + XYZ Sound Device", but obviously XYZ Sound Device would actually be your mic's name. I use a USB mic (the Plantronics DA 40 adapter) and it shows up like that.

  • I seem to get a very low level audio input when using my external soundcard for live sampling, but when I use my MacBook Pro in-built soundcard, I have no problems. The soundcard works flawlessly with other audio programs...

  • I can't figure out how to get my mic to work on the sampling. With my poor budget I have a tiny rear panel 3.5 mm jack mic, a basic one made by microsoft. I can play back the mic on most of my programs such as skype and audacity, but i can't figure out how on Reason. I have Reason 5 and when I look at the rear panel and plug in audio input to sampling input, the LED is red. What am I doing wrong?

  • @JoeMooProductions Your mic will work and the beauty of live sampling is that the quality of the mic doesn't hamper the creative potential of the sample editing and other things you can do with live sampling. Many people use their internal laptop mics to get great ideas out. I'm not a PC guy but from what I understand, you need to install the ASIO4ALL generic ASIO sound driver and set your mic to work with that and choose that as your Reason sound driver. Good luck!

  • Great job !!

  • 2:30 - Epic joke. I lolled.

  • "Duuude, why would I want to record my own samples? I got like every sample ever made off bittorrent." hahahaha... whats better is all the other downloads are (*#)&)(#@*$&(#@*ING twilight ^&@!*#^(*&!@#^.

  • "Duuude, why would I want to record my own samples? I got like every sample ever made off bittorrent." hahahaha...

  • SO goregeous.

  • What is the time limit for live sampling? 1min. 2.5 or what?

  • wicked. this feature alone is such a major step up for reason. i could imagine getting totally lost in this for hours on end. you guys are great at making videos too :) keep up the good work

  • how do you get the mic signal as a stereo signal instead of mono?

  • @Adeninglis Plug the mic into the left input only.

  • @PropellerheadSW you mean plug it into the left input in the audio input section or my interface? i tried plugging it into the left input in the audio input i only get a mono signal still..

  • @PropellerheadSW Is there any way to sample internal sounds? I have a lot of samples in my itunes library I'm just wondering if you can use reason's sampling function to sample internal sounds as well?

  • @xskullsnapzx Sure thing. I believe on the mac a lot of people do it via SoundFlower. Basically it lets you set up an internal audio input in your mac control panels. Set the mac's output to SoundFlower 2 Chanel. Now set the Reason input to Soundflower 2 Chanel. Then you sample like normal in Reason. While you're sampling, you won't hear anything because the routing is all internal but the sample will be recorded. Thanks for the good question.

  • ya but what if you sound blaster 24-bit dont work rith reasoun 5 audio in put : ((((((((((((

  • @09fod as far as I'm aware, you can install the ASIO4ALL driver and it'll work fine.

  • @PropellerheadSW thanks ! and sorry for the sloppy comment

  • @09fod *with

  • thats whats up

  • is it possible to use a usb mic to sample?

  • @PropellerheadSW I'm able to sample from my mic. and I see the wave file once I stop recording.... but I don't hear it on the playback... Any advise??... please help!!!!

  • YES i was hoping you could record on reason 5 it was needed!

  • Can you record flatulence and map it to an external trigger

  • @ybot1983 A 21st century whoopi cushion? Sure why not!? Little known trivia: This is precisely why we added this feature to Reason 5. It just so happens that it serves a musical purpose too. ;)

  • @prankmypants

ah figured it out, just install ASIO4ALL 2010 version and then it works great and also reduced my latency to 2ms. this is wicked

  • can you sample vinyl?

  • @AntoineBigAnt Certainly! :) If it makes a noise, you can sample it. That leaves you open to sampling pretty much anything as long as it's not floating in the silent vacuum of outer space. :) Sampling vinyl works. Drumming on the side of the International Space Station sadly wouldn't work... unless you sampled from INSIDE THE SPACE STATION! :0 Anyone have any contacts at NASA? I've got a new ReFill idea.

  • this video makes me feel like a broke a-hole that sucks at making music!

  • I am using an M-Audio USB mic (Producer USB). How/where do I select that USB mic as the way to input my audio? I'm getting no audio at all. I click the sample button but it doesn't know to use that USB mic as the audio input. I'm on a Mac.

  • Ok I was able to sample live once on my laptop but now i can't do it again in my imac. How did I have it set up before arrrrrgggg. No input AT ALL NOW! grrrrrrrrr I have a mac. I need step by step. PLEASE

  • It posible to record a sample without a Record 1.5 ? I have reason 5 and i would like to record some guitar samples how can i do that ?

  • @coolum11 That's what this video is about that you just commented on. It explains how to record some guitar samples into Reason 5.

  • @PropellerheadSW Thank you very much .. I have already solved this problem but thank you ...

  • thats awesome!

  • I LOVE THIS TOO MUCH!! But what I've always found extremely irritating, was when manufacturers would refer to "sample PLAYERS" as " samplers". This is grammatically incorrect! Reason 5 FINALLY gets is right!! B4 this, a whole generation of newbs were thinking sample PLAYERS were called samplers.Ugggghh....

  • need help with finding out how to get the computer to detect active input channels from my soundcards so i can actually use this feature any help/advice is welcomed please help me out somebody

  • Can you sample in mono?

  • @heyguy1231 Yes. Just plug into the left input only. It'll be mono, not stereo with a silent right channel.

  • How do I make the samples not speed up or slow down when playing higher and lower notes on the midi keys

  • @Pimphish don't play them at a different key. That's why instrument libraries are, multi-sample, and multi-velocity, for each key. Try Recycle.

  • best video i have seen :P

  • Used this feature today and several hours went passed - perhaps the most fun I've had with any music software. Ever!

  • Did u just hit that paper cup with a cigarette ?

  • Oh this is HOT can't wait to buy this I use Reason 4 now definitely time to upgrade

  • Live sampling looks hot. But, what about sampling in STEREO? Please tell me this can be done, but by the look of it, I get the feeling it can't be done....unless through a workaround.

  • @AllUrUtubeRbelong2me It's stereo.

  • @PropellerheadSW ZOMG! I love you!

  • what type of video camera was used for the shots of the instruments?

  • @theguvnerpresents I shoot most everything with a Canon 7D. I then use a lot of various software and effects to do color grading to make it more interesting tonally speaking.

    -ryan

  • dude how do i get reason/record to recognize my fire wire interface?

the preference tab keeps searchin for midi, asks me to hit the keys, and cant find it!

    over?

  • man i cant wait, ive been ready for reason 5 release for years. when does it come out????

  • @acoustic404 August 25th :)

  • Reason 5 is going to be amazing i cant wait!!!

  • 'every_sample_ever_made.zip'! That had me laughing out loud. Sir, you have a wonderful sense of humor. All your tutorials make the wait for Record 1.5 al lot more fun. Thanks for that (and for the excellent software).

  • am i have to think that the sample have a better reaction in time if i press C1 or C5 in my keyboard because the sample run more fast in C5 and it cut in the case than i do not use play looping? im sorry my english suck

  • Gotta love the subtitles! They remind me of the many hours spent 'training' my brand new voice recognition software. :)

Nice software by the way. ;-)

  • I am so excited for this next version of Reason. Super stoked.

  • why Reasonners made it so complicated, you better just play the instruments you want separately and then put Fxs like reverb or delay like it is used here with guitar sampling. this life is fuckin complicated and music should not

  • Big question ... does it have MIDI out?

  • Are recorded samples automatically stored in your project file?

  • @dusp2k Recorded samples are embedded in the file for easy sharing. Also new in Reason 5 is the ability to self-contain ReFill content used in a song. This makes for easy collaboration with other people who may not own the ReFill you used.

  • This video has really, really been well thought-out. You don't get too many of those on YouTube. Now, how about a free patch of that guitar arpeggio that you had created so that we can learn even more be seeing and observing? Also, Is that how you really pronounce it? Ré-drum? Or Reeedrum? I always pronounced it as Reeeedrum. Sorta gives me the feeling I'm re-doing the process of drumming.

  • Comment removed

  • @whoddaya It think Redrum is pronounced Red Rum is a joke reference to The Shining. And presumably Nuh-Nuh-Nineteen (NN-19) is a reference to Paul Hardcastle's "19"

  • California Almonds?

  • Amazing =)

  • I use sampling now with Acid Music Studio, however, I see a lot more possiblities with Reason. Right now, I am just waiting until Reson 5.0 comes out. Defintely a good piece of software to have.

  • hmm... this makes ableton live's sampling look like a cake walk. haha.

im still happy with Re-wiring reason into Live for instruments. but thats all you need...

  • @groovebrother69 Good eye! Martin D-45, it is.

  • brilliant. Hats off to the maker of this video.

  • I love this feature and I love all your promotional videos. They make a great selling point. What I don't understand is, why you would poke fun at companies that come out with sample libraries? What does one do when they want to use a violin or a cello? Those libraries are created for a purpose different from what reason is here (which is quite niche I must say)...so what's with the taunt?

  • @rjk1482 Sample libraries are amazing tools. We have our own Piano, Bass, Drum, and Orchestral libraries so we totally see the value of them. What we're doing is drawing a distinction. We're saying this feature is not meant for recording massive libraries...but also that those libraries aren't meant for fast creative manipulation. They'll give you a perfect cello and that's great. This will give you a totally new sound. That's aslo great. We think having both tools is the perfect choice.

  • Cant wait for this to get on my PC!!!! LOVE PROPELLERHEADSW!

  • darn the "Laugh" made me laugh lol

  • The best

  • 273 TB lol.... these guys must go to comedy fest...seriously

  • I watched this video 10 times today, can't get enough :)

  • brilliant!

  • guess what i have already test to sample my own beat box with kong and adding noise sound to the "oomps" bass drum mouth and it was perfect ^^ definitly i love the live sampling feature much more than any voice pitch correction ^^.

  • This literally had me dancing! LOL - can't wait for this! :D

  • So much twilight! lol

  • so awesome!!!

  • There are not enough thumb ups for this video and what is coming in Reason.

  • This is Awsome!!!

  • "live sampling is BACK in Reason"? I guess they're talking about the art, or was this a feature in previous versions? I didn't really get into reason until 3.0.

  • @charlieplatnum no, Reason brings live sampling back (from obscurity). Like Timberlake brings sexy back.

  • This is seriously awesome

  • this is hilarious... lol... and informative, looking forward to reason 5 :D:D

  • awesome!!!!!

  • DUDE ive already got like EVERY SAMPLE EVER MADE from tpb....
