Very thankful to have had the opprotunity to work with the Real Don Steele and his producer and K-EARTH 101. Growing up as a kid this was my American Idol.
@TL250Rider The thing was, KRLA was damned near broke when Laboe took over in 1976. He actually poured his own money into the station and turned it around. KRLA was a force to be reckoned with in the 60s with Dave Hull, Casey Kasem, Bob Hudson, Johnny Hayes, et. al., but the 70s hit and after Johnnie Darin left, the programming went downhill, automation was installed, and by '76, the station was about to go under. If not for Laboe, KRLA may have ceased to exist 20 years before it did.
I have KRLA- KRTH- XTRA on tape from 1986 & 1987. My tapes only as I recorded them myself while vacationing out in LA. Steele, Midday Mike, Johnny Hayes and maybe a few others. -----------------------------RDS on KHJ! Boss!
I remeber listening to KRLA back in the early 60's. Back the then there was no Boss Radio. IT was KRLA and KFWB (now all news) I also rmember KGBS but I can not remember if they played rock or just talk.
Ahhhh... before radio turned all corporate piggy.
