when i wake up in the morning i go pray to my God, when i come back at night i go pray to my God, i always believe in joy nothing comes for nothing, always do my best and leave the rest to God
Nwannem je nke oma ..............your music has touched my life in so many ways highly inspirational ,educative ,oliver u truely has the words of life death is enevitable ....but ur life is well spent n u live on in our hearts Adieu Nwanne oma we shall meet on a later day .
Oliver`s death is touching. We lost a bunch in his passing away. He seems the last talented and original highlife musician of the Igbos. His music is chilling, thoughtful, entertaining and marks the climax of events in festivals in Igbo Land. Show me a wedding, ofala or any traditional jamboree wihtout the visitation any of the many work of this great man and I will show you a boring gathering of folks. His music marks the time for refreshments and jyration. Missing him from Japan.
Codewit,I thank you for this music. It reminds me of home........When there was nothing like kidnapping and broad-day armed robberies virtually on a daily basis as obtains now.
Please also post "Ugbana" by Oliver de Coque. I am far from home in UK. I need Ugbana to help me fight homesickness.
So sad that Oliver de Coque is dead. We must all as Nigerians wonder why death has become so cheap -- in the words of Ebenezer Obey, "iku di meji epinni" or "two for a half-penny" -- among our musicians. de Coque's "Identity" is one of the all-time evergreens of Nigerian music, encapsulating the simple truth of life that is built around self-knowledge in such a disarming way. I have listened to the song since it was first released and I have never stopped being humbled by its evocative power.
omg i cnt believe oliver is dead, longlive high life hero, this song brings old memories, when my dad use to play it in the sitting room, back in nigeria, longlive imo state, longlive igbo longlive nigeria, RIP oliver
I can't believe what I'm seeing people are posting about our legend, Oliver de coque..he's pass away...WOW, I'm speechless..We will live to remember him all times and may his gentle soul rest in peace.AMEN
This was a musician with good craftmanship. Now that he is gone, who will fit into the void?I can't see anyone.I can safely say we have bade farewell to highlife.May your soul rest in peace.
Heck yeah my dad especially brought all of his albums. The music would be playing when entertaining guest and when doing chores. Brings back memories!
Funny Funny Identity!!! i remember listening to this tune those days in Lagos. Oliver has paid his dues and needs to be honoured. He is also a true African legend!!!
Nothing comes from nothing (ex nihilo nihil fit). When you steal someone's money, somehow you will lose something more than the amount stolen. 419ners and other enemies of Nigeria please spare us bad names. Long live Nigeria
