Another classic example of a GREAT band that did not get their FULL PROPS because, if you knew the story, it was the STUPID record execs that didn't promote the band fully or properly!!! How much great music, throughout the decades, has been lost to the ether because the "suits" (who don't know SHIT about music) deemed it as NOT economically viable to the music label?
So much energy, so much love, so very amazing. I just love this live version, it harnesses what was DRN in their prime, a very underrated band before their time. Dan is still amazing now and am fortunate enough to have met him a few times. Such a strong spirit held within that man - long may he be around to share the shine he gives out.

Another band that should have "blown up" bigtime. well at least I have the albums to enjoy and though all three albums are great their self- titled debut does not sound dated and every song on there is a winner.
DRN'S debut could be released today and today I think it would go multiplatinum worldwide because people are now accepting of intergrated bands like No Doubt than it was in 1988 when this album debuted.
@TheNewsoul2, Yeah, I think DRN was a band that was just too ahead of their time. How cool would it be if they got back together? I bet it they did, it would be like no time had passed at all...chemistry-wise. I never had the opportunity to see them live back in the day, unfortunately.
They`re good friends of mine.Did some percussion and back ups on Ritual in the studio with them! One of the best live shows ever, and great guys too!Melvin B. where you at Baby!Get at me!!
DRN rocks!!! i grew up listening to them..still love dan to this day! im actually gonna go see him live tomorrow night in portland!!!! i cant wait! hehe
This is cheesecake compared to how he performs "Ritual" now. Now he performs it with depth and passion with acoustic guitar. Much improved these days.
brings back memories, i was the disk jockey at pier 70 in seattle from 86 to 90 and got to meet him and his band, great bunch of guys, what impressed me about him was that no matter how long between gigs he always remembered my name. some great backstage partys too lol
wtf is this music lol the lead singer must not give up his daytime job...hopeless singer LMAO gawd! stop singing please...listen to OASIS or...Gavin Degraw u might learn more!
The dan reed network were pioneers. they crafted hard rock/funk and soul into pop with hooks galore. The musicianship was unparalleled. this is a fuzzy recording so please dont judge it by this. the albums are another story.
Beautifully produced and the song writing was crazy. at the time they were called "bon jovi meets prince".
oasis on the other hand made two brilliant albums. ran out of ideas and have two of the biggest morons fronting them.
still shitty band compare to our british bands hehehehe! wot a load of crap that dan reed network. oi mickeylove01, dan reed and milli vanilli were best mates lmao. they sound alike i think lol. wot a crap band LMAO
Dan Reed was something very special for those who were touched by his music. if you dont get it , thats sad. YOu missed a very unique and wonderful artist.
Dan Reed Network were excellent, especially their third album. They were just about to go massive and Dan decided to shave his head to prove that his image didn't matter - turned out to be the most expensive haircut in history as it cost him his girlie following and his sales. Terrible shame as they were excellent live and on record.
Nailed it Andy. Dan Reed Newtwork was something very special. That Manchester International gig for the 'slam' tour is regarded as pretty much legendary by everyone I've spoken to who was there. And he's touring solo again now. :o)
I could never describe their musical style. Were they funk metal, pop rock, progressive pop? The keyboards with lead guitar is awesome Headphones are a must when listening to their Cd's.
Thanks for this video, these guys smoked! Saw them in New Orleans at city park. They rocked ass! Super nice too, got to meet them and get pictures, they couldn't have been Nicer. Dan is Super Nice, Killer talent. Most don't know He plays Guitar better than the Lead Guitarist! God Bless Him. They should re-release Ritual with some Killer chicks dancing with Dan. He could happen Today. He was just too ahead of His time for then I guess.
You guys should´ve seen the original 12´´of this song with a huge fold-out poster of Dan and the boys!Even live they were just over the top!Just like Living Colour,Gun,Black Crowes,Saga,Honeymoon suite, etc they fell prey of some very bad politics in musicbizz...a shame really
I like them. Bon Jovi too. Bon Jovi stole the show from many artists at this time, '88. No politics, just out done by the genius that is the Jovi! If you really listen to this tune ... after all they were on the same label..Ploygram...it's expensive to promote an act...Again not BS politics...true and honest politics.
Bon Jovi was a machine, and the money Polygram spent to promote them came back tenfold because they were already established and on their way. When Bon Jovi came through in 1983, it was easier to get a record on the radio and on MTV. They shared the "label stable" with Def Leppard and BMG still got both of them airplay because independent promotion was still fairly uncommon. However, in 1988, no money, no airplay...except in the NW.
heylads, thanks for the info. I forgot who he was. I remember his local show and then he went and hit the big time.
Man, it's been to long since I've been back to Washington "Damed Navy should have put me on the West Coast" and to long since I heard the Dan Reed Network.
Dave - It's all about the Dan Reed Network. I love the way they ended that track. They should have been multi-platinum, but there's no justice in the music biz.
Now I know what they look like. I had this Cassette in my Car since the late 80s, Never saw them but I played this tape to death. Ritual and get to you.not may bands went this direction , Mothers finest to name a few> Great stuff, too bad FUNk rock didn't really catch on.. love it.
