  • Absolutely Fantastic video. I watched this a few years back. There is a possibility i might be going there next year. I specifically remember this video. I remembered the music and the photo at 2:02

    Fantastic video mate

  • @aussiebum1997 Thanks!! Glad you liked my vid and comments like that made making it worthwhile. The video doesn't do justice to the experience itself so go for it!!! Thanks again for the positive comment and let me know if you make it next year.

  • Nice - just back from there two weeks ago. I recognise all those slippery roots!!

  • @PickledEel well done! They can certainly be a trap for weary legs!!!

  • An exciting adventure trail. Well done!

  • @alanheath3 thankyou! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • I spend all day with you and then I come home to relax and stumble across you and Big Pete...on the Track.......twice wasn't enough for me..... Is the big fella up for more?...lol...Did you go to Gona/Buna?..........pic of the beach looked like it.

    Dave Watson

  • @fionadavid100 How you going Dave? I don't think the big fella could handle it again, they were the good pics of him! haha. Yeah we drove by flatbed from Kokoda to Popondetta then drove out to Gona the next day. Didn't get many pics from there though.

  • @mickymac82 Good stuff...the big fella is a tough customer though he tries to hide it.I was on a PMV from kokoda to popondetta and the bloody thing crashed off the road...dont know how the others survived,I made it because i a carton of SP lager in me....lol

  • @fionadavid100 I'm surprised our truck didn't crash, the SP was great to relax for the drive ahead, haha. Seems so long ago.

  • that was an awesome vid mate, especially the end with the memorial site.

i am looking into walking the track within the next 2 years.

  • @thejokerswild07 Thanks very much for taking time to watch it. Glad you enjoyed the vid, you will enjoy the walk even more!!!

  • I think Gallipoli over shadows Kokoda to much. I mean this was a fight for Australia.

RIP for the Australian & American soldiers that fought and died in the Kokoda Campaign.

  • did you get to keep the bullet shell

  • Nah I left the shell there. I figured it's a piece of the history that belongs there so why not leave it for someone else to discover while they were walking? Cheers.

  • the digs called it the track....read up!!!!

  • ok first of all. im 16 and i just walked the track with the KCYP(look it up, first link on google) and it was amazing! changed my life forever! second thing... frequentsnacker... there's no propper explanation to determin whether or not it is called track or trail, i'd say track because trail sounds pansy :P but thats just me. but yeah great video, i remember most places :P and did u walk with kokoda spirit???

  • its called the kakoda "TRAIL" not track TRAIL TRAIL TRAIL TRAIL

  • I am 11 and I have booked to do kokoda with my mum in september next year, I am really looking forward to it!!

  • im so fucken doing this, if the cunt who burnt the australian flag can do it actual aussies can do it.

  • heeyy

i am Alyssa Azar and i did kokoda when i was 8 years old.

i loved it and i want to go back again.

    byee

  • You rock Alyssa!

You are an inspiration, and seeing your story helped convince me that I could do the track. A big thanks to your dad too who helped me with my medical problems and training. I loved the experience and look forward to doing it again with my son, as soon as he is old enough.

  • Thats awesome Alyssa, incredible! I can't wait to go back either!

  • Hi.

I'm 18 yrs old and planning on walking the Kokoda track/trail in about april/may 2010. do you think you could give me an estimate on about how heavy the packs are please?

  • I'm pretty sure our packs weighed between 15-20kg. Hope this helps!

  • g'day im goin on the kokoda trek in june i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips

  • Train hard and keep pumping the water in, you sweat so much it's unbelievable! And the main thing....enjoy it!

  • So am i, in July. im only 17, too!

    can't wait.

so i train about 3-4 times a week, would u think thats enough?

  • Yeah that sounds about right, you should be fine!!! Good luck and enjoy it!!

  • yea just enjoy it go slow take heaps of photos and take it all in reflect on what they did for us ok

  • very good video i must say

i have done the kokoda trail and it was probly the best experience ever

    i absolutely loved it

but it was alot of hard work though

i want to go back one day when im abit older.

  • Hey mate cheers for sharing that with us. I'd love to do the trail, hopefully next year when I'm not working

  • No Probs Dave, glad you liked it, just hope I do the place justice!!! Do your best to get over there, it's truly worth the effort.

  • whats the youngest age someone can do the trail? im only 14 but I am thinking about doing this, maybe after school, 18-19?

  • Hi there, there were a few teenagers I noticed on the track. Whilst it would be a challenge at 14 I don't see why it wouldn't be possible if you were fit enough. Good luck!

  • thanks very much. I think ill do it after highschool

  • The youngest I have heard of was a girl called Alyssa Azar who was 8 when she did the track. There was a story on Sunrise about her, type in Sunrise Kokoda in Youtube and you can see her story. She was a very tough little girl, and her dad Glen is ex military and works for Executive Excellence who are the best company to do Kokoda with. Im 40 and walked the track with them last year, can't recomend them strongly enough.

  • nah KTL is the best to do it with

  • G'day Tiddles....

Yes Alyssa did the track when she was 8yo and then did Everest base camp when she was 10yo.

I believe that anyone can complete the track if they have the right mental attitude. I have seen fit, strong looking people really struggle and then a 79yo lady do it easily.

Micky...great video mate. Looks like you enjoyed the experience. Great effort.

  • "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

    We will remember them."

  • i feel sorry for our aussie's we had to fight on such hard terrain

  • Definately! And it would have been even worse terrain back then compared to what it's like now.

  • Hi, my name is Nicolas H. and live in Holland. I did the Kokoda Trail for the first time in 1970, 1971 and in 2002. In the early 70th all were unspolied and i ded even the stairs(disappeared now). Seen also a lot of remains(morterbombs, handgranates brenguns etc etc. It was very primitieve without carriers and very lonely. Sill like to do the trail over 3 years

  • Hi Nicholas. Would have been very different to walk the trail in the 70's. There are plenty of trekkers out there now so it probably isn't as lonely. There are still plenty of remains and is amazing when you find some!

  • Hey thanks for the positive comment, glad you enjoyed the video! You are going to love it, good luck and enjoy it!!!

  • Is that song at the end from the kids at Kagi?

  • Hi there, the kids singing at the end were from Efogi but the songs may also be sung in Kagi, hope this helps!

  • I'm looking to go in April next year with my school, for ANZAC Day. It looks pretty cool...

  • Good to hear you enjoyed it. I am going with Executive Excellence at the end of May and they have been great so far. They have arranged a strict 12 week training program and one of their trainers comes down from Brisbane to Melbourne once a month for a training session with our group. 8 weeks to go...can't wait!

  • if anyone is thinking of going look up Executive Excellence they cost a bit more but worth it really!!! i am 16 and did the walk july 2007 fantastic so for all you gonna's!!! Go for it!!!!! i did the walk with my father and grandfather amazing!!!! dont leave it till it's to late!!!!

  • Micky, I found my motivation and am in full training now. I've even quit smoking and so far have lost 10kg. 13 weeks until we go. Every time I struggle with the training I come to this video for inspiration.

    Thanks mate

  • Go for it mate! Good stuff, I'm sure you'll lose plenty more kilos over there too and well done for getting off the smokes! Let me know how you go, good luck!

  • Hello great video it has made me very excited for my trip. Just two questions:

1-who did you do your trip with and what sort of package was it? im doing the 8 day battleield trek with niugini holidays

2-did you have a porter or carry your own bag? i you carried your own how much did it weigh?

  • Hi! Thanks for the comment.

1- I went with Kokoda Treks and tours. it was a 12 day tour but 10 days on the track, we did the track, then visited Gona beach the next day which meant staying at Poppondetta for a night.

2- I had a porter to ensure I wasn't slogging it so much that I could enjoy it all! The people that carried aimed for 15-20kgs, easier said than done! Good luck with your trip.

  • very nice presentaion!gonna do the trek in april, wasn't sure to take my camera, but seeing the beautiful pics, gonna change my mind...

how did you keep it dry/in one piece?

  • Thanks for the positive comment. I was close to buying a watertight case for my camera but chose not to. I just took my ordinary camera case and by night kept it in a sealable plastic bag, had no problems at all with rain/river crossings. The trip will go in a flash so I recommend taking photos!

  • Wow, thanks for that. I am going in May and am struggling with the training a bit at the moment but seeing what I have to look forward to has really motivated me. Still don't like the look of some of those hills though.

  • I'm sure you will do great! You will find plenty of motivation once you get there, enjoy it while you can. Some of the hills can be tough, but I always thought it's really nothing compared to what the diggers went through. Good luck!

  • The only troops in the Kokoda Campaign were Australian.

  • does anyone know if the kiwis fought in this battle?

  • Not definately sure mate but I don't think they did. However, I am far from an expert on the subject. May have supported with operations in Gona and Sunananda. Will happily be corrected.

  • the diggers did a top job, had the japs got through then nz would have most certainly been next, its a scary thought and big respect to the aussies that died in PNG

  • Great presentation. My partner and i are doing the track in July 08. Watching this makes me want to go today. Thanks for a great insight on what we can expect.

  • No worries! Can I come too!? Would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck, you will love it.

  • great job .we must have crossed paths as we went north to south 10 aug to 18 aug 2007 ..awsome pics at isurava of the 4 plinths , went with the music .......also , the kids singing at efogi at the very end was beautiful ...i remember it vividly but had no video of it ..thanks for the memories

  • Thanks a lot. We would have definately crossed paths! Hope you enjoyed it, we had a pretty good run with the weather. That music takes me back to Efogi, glad I could do the same for you.

  • First class ! Doing the track Oct 07 and this gave me some idea what to expect...Great music compilation to the picture show....

  • Thanks! Good luck, you will absolutely love it. Enjoy the experience of the place, the people and the track.

  • good tribute.

  • Thankyou! hope you enjoyed it.
