well its the second, fifth, sixth that are muted but heres the trick . . . ur pointer is on the first string, so lay it across all six strings so that it mutes all of them, but because your middle n ring finger will be on the 3rd and 4th strings higher up on the frets they will cancel out the mute behind it (if that makes sense)
basically, just lay ur poiinter across all strings to mute em all, but the 3rd n 4th will stay hav sound bc u r putting other fingers higher up
Very nicely done. I've been doing another version (sliding the ring and third finger and muting with the index finger) which works, but the use of the fourth and pinky will make a better sound (once I get it down.) Thanks.
I'm glad it helped a little, and a couple days after i posted this i learned how to use the fourth and pinky to do the 7th fret part which takes away that extra slide and is how dave plays it, but keep going and do whatever works for you

Do you mute the open D between cord changes?

Are there any drills for learning to mute the first, fifth and sixth strings with the pointer? I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get that down.
Thanks!
