I shop at a&f and nothing they can do can justify it. And so you guys know they left out part of story. When the girl was originally hired the store manager told her it was ok if she wore the hijab. The district manager was the one who didn't approve and got her fired. I know a lot of people are getting on her about it but the only person who cause the issue was district manager. Just saying she's not the only person at fault.

It's like working at any job that has a dress code. At my job you aren't allowed to wear flip flops, and at A&F you have to be able to wear their clothes. It's not discrimination, it's a job requirement.

In this case I agree with A&F. Looks and appearance are a major part of the sale and their marketing strategy. I know plenty of people of different races and ethnic backgrounds who work there and for other A&F companies. If you aren't willing to dress how a possible place of employment wants you to dress, why would they hire you? Millions of people wear a suit and tie to work because they are required to... I don't see the difference between this and that.

Not sure about the girl in question, but a headscarf doesn't require the whole "black, depressing outfit". The biggest thing about it is covering the hair, and with a uniform, the headscarf usually can't get in the way. The only exceptions would be if the dress code required showing excessive amounts of skin (which would seem counter-productive at a clothing store), or showing the hair, which seems like a silly rule.
What about a place like Best Buy where you were a uniform? Find a place that doesn't have a dress code or work in the back, not like they are denying you anything important, its a low paying job.

I usually like TYT, but this is pretty judgmental. If the girl wanted to work there, that's her own decision to make. Also, how does he know she was wearing a black headscarf? And when did black become depressing anyway? So he would characterize nuns as depressing too then? A&F is obviously all about a certain image, so it may be unrealistic for the girl to expect to be hired. But, I think all the negative, biased remarks about her scarf are unwarranted.

I know a lot of girls who have the hijab on and they dress just like everybody else, except they cover everything. I'm talking jeans and long sleeves, and the head dresses are of every colour. Is it the managers discretion? Because at my local Abercrombie & Fitch, I saw a girl there wearing a hijab, and I've seen her there a couple times. And since she most likely wore it at the interview (since she wears it at work) and they still hired her, I'm really confused. Is it the company or the managers?

In this case I agree with A&F. Looks and appearance are a major part of the sale and their marketing strategy. I know plenty of people of different races and ethnic backgrounds who work there and for other A&F companies. If you aren't willing to dress how a possible place of employment wants you to dress, why would they hire you? Millions of people wear a suit and tie to work because they are required to... I don't see the difference between this and that.

Not a big fan of A&F but honestly, most of us who run a buisness where looks are the main part of sales would do the same thing. I wouldn't hire an obese person to try and sell tight-fitting clothes that are mainly in small sizes and i wouldn't hire a muslim girl who covers up herself up like that. The employees are supposed to be examples of the brands, and I am assuming have to bare a resemblance to the models.

Not sure about the girl in question, but a headscarf doesn't require the whole "black, depressing outfit". The biggest thing about it is covering the hair, and with a uniform, the headscarf usually can't get in the way. The only exceptions would be if the dress code required showing excessive amounts of skin (which would seem counter-productive at a clothing store), or showing the hair, which seems like a silly rule.

Well actually I used to work at Hollister and they are trying to promote a certain image. So this young lady coming to work at abercrombie in full muslim dress really doesn't make any sense. he said it in the video. haven't you seen their ads? the people are pretty much naked! so this conservative muslim coming to work at abercrombie isn't very smart. abercrombie should win this suit.

My question: If they are promoting this image, how come they don't get some stereotypically preppy white boys and white girls to make these clothes. Why is it that a poor Chinese or Muslim man is the one whipping up these jeans and jackets?

@xhead246 You see, Hollister is a worldwide effort, and they employ people of all different colors and faiths. If your so called image was reality, than you would be paying more than $1000 for your clothes. Even then, some minority group in America would be whipping up your clothes. Not the "white" image that you talk about.
In the same way, this woman's discrimination is kind of stupid because this supposed "image" is false, a sham. Hollister ain't the white boy company you want it to be.

I got a job there when I was 18 and was aparently too ugly to put on the floor so I was reduced to picking up pins in the dressing rooms!! They suck!

A & F was definitly wrong by doing that, but I do have to agree that what she doing there with the reputation they have for the clothes they sell. A few years ago my neice worked at Mcdonalds that was managed by muslims, and she was told to remove her cross that she was wearing because of the area she worked in. It is mostly a muslim neighborhood. All she did was quite. Its going to be like this forever, between all religions. Something has to change.

Well after hearing about this I do think this bad for A&F, but I agree that this is discrimination. There are many jobs that you can't wear some things. Example, if your work in a place that has many mo
