I think this movie just disguises her disregard for anybody but herself through humor, her beauty and her passion to make pies. I mean its like someone is allowed to cheat on there husband as long they seem cute enough. In reality she is a lying cheat and if she wasn't beautiful nobody would like her. Her cruelty is fabricated by her gentle demeanor. The movie is funny but sad at the same time. So many woman pretend to be victims why do they marry idiots just to say "im married"?

The point is she is trapped in an abusive relationship she cannot get out of - the humour masks the subject matter. Yes she slept with her Doctor but she did end it with him twice (Once in the Cafe, then in the hospital) Quite frankly I don't blame her, she was smothered, bullied, insulted and forced by that aggressive insecure unsociable husband of hers for years - GOOD ON HER!

This movie is one of my personal favorites. Ive watched it just two weeks ago and i just cant stop watching it all over again. It's better than Juno. Adrienne Shelly deserves Oscar's Best Screenplay. And KERI RUSSELL... WOW. JUST WOW. She's soooo perfect for the role. Every scene in the movie was catchy... and, the dialogues were so good i just wanna record and memorize every word! It's movie at its best.... Not so TITANIC-ish, but damn, what an amazing story! I Love Jenna! She's my hero!

Keri Russell is very believable as the pie diner waitress and Adrienne Shelly (who is also the director and writer) and Cheryl Hines (of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" fame) add some laughs as co-workers at the diner. However, it is good ol' Andy Griffith that steals the show with his character's knack for giving age-old wisdom in a slightly more rude way than we are used to seeing from "The Andy Griffith Show" or "Matlock".

Which is why its so heartbreaking that the girl her wrote obviously felt the same way & then she had her little girl & it transformed her life...and then she had this success with the film & now she is dead. Life is so beyond fucked up. :(
