yo estoy indeciso entre la DR 650 y la XT 660, ambas me gustan aunque me gusta mas la estetica de la XT 660 en supermotard, pero la DR es una maquinota, aun estoy indeciso en mi proxima compra
Great video. I'm now living in Aus and thinking of getting a DR. This video just helped me make up my mind. The trails look very similar to the type of trails around Kinglake which I want to ride.
I have a very big problem, I cant decide between two types of bike's. I just love Honda Cbr F3 ,also Suzuki Dr650, but they are diferent type's, all my moto friend's have sport bikes and street's ,will I be able to keep up with them riding a DR650?
I had a Kawa Er-5,that was a heavy challenge to keep up whit them . :)
I hope you understand my problem and I hope someone have a great solution.
Totally different bike dude, the sports bike will eat you alive on the open road, but the Dr will cruse at 120 on paved road / dirt all day with 2 people on it. But when it comes to hard road riding road bikes have more bang about them steeper fork angles and more aggressive positioning, along with better breaks and lower centre of gravity give them the end on the road. But the DR is very capable, you will have to ride them both :)
Now THAT is what it's like to ride a DR650! Really great video. When I watched the video, it was exactly as I ride mine, this is what that bike is made for!
The max load for the DR is well over that.. i think it can carry about its own weight. which is 147kg (324 pounds). After all it is able to carry two people. As for height,,go get on one and see i guess. I am 5:10/11 ish and i wouldnt want to be any shorter off road. If you feel to cramped on the bike, see if you can get lower foot pegs. The DR's pegs are elevated.
Perfect for your size tyler. With your height and weight you are going to appreciate the torque/adjustability. For the money, the DR is king. They've been making this thing for 25+ years. Its nailed. The DRZ 400 is supposed to be better (lighter, more bhp), but I haven't tried one yet.I run a 2002 Dr 650SE, and I have over 32,000 km on it. Had init service, changed the plugs at 20,000 (but not because it needed it), change the oil diligently, and ride the hell out of it. It starts every spring.
I was suprised how cheap the pirelli was...I ordered in a set for a total of $200 Aust..Crazy,,,considering the cost of those crap trail wings that came on the DR.
"...considering the cost of those crap trail wings that came on the DR. " Hehe Ozzy, yah I lost two of the things until I gave up and just fabricated my own. They look better, and I used a sligtly smaller bolt/rubber-guard so I could actually bolt them right to the frame. One screw per wing: my only complaint about the bike. crshoob, have they changed that yet?
Hey ozzyguy3, ever think about getting a new set of wheels and motarding that DR? They seem to be popular with hill climbers too, thanks to the forward center of gravity, and torque forever. There is no replacement for displacement!
RE: Pirelli MT21 sure looks good for hard pack and gravel, probably pretty decent in stuff a little softer too. I run maxxis crosses on both front and back, and I do ride some pavement. The rear, naturally, has brutal c-line wear on pavement (<2000km if all at once), but once broken in they grab dry pavement, hard-pack, and gravel nicely. (Down a mountain hwy they held together at 180km/hr too, or so I've been told, wink-wink)I think they might be less expensive than Pirellis too...
yep, I like the K&N filter, I found install alignment a little tricky, but once stuck in there: very nice. Be careful in dusty conditions, KANDN lets it through. Big diff was the pipe and jet replacement. Diff altitudes here make it tough to run a good mix everywhere, but adjustable supertrapp exhaust keeps it tight. And the higher the octane of your fuel, the better.
I just got an 08 breaking it in now. So was thinking of putting K&N with a foam wrap, do you think that would help with the dust? Don't want too much dirt getting in my motor. Gonna jet filter pipe it soon. Love the bike so far.
Hey, that foam wrap idea you had to deal with K&N&dust sounds good, as long as it doesn't slow the flow back to what it was with the original air filter (moot?).
i just puchased one for adventure riding outback australia / leveing for cape york in 8 weeks 30lt tank tkp muffler, dyno jet kit, pro tapers, billet top clamp / billet fork brace
bash plate 4mm tubes baja tyres ect ect"
cheapest adventure bike under 8 grand
but i allso have a 08 ktm 530 for trail riding, the dr650 would never come close in the bush, but as a dule sports adventure bike its spot on .
After dyno jet and new muffler, how has your fuel economy been?Is fuel use same? Increased? or dropped? thinking to de-restrict but i don't want to loose fuel econ.
Love my DR650SE, 2002, supertrapp adjustable exhaust, K&N air filter, rejetted. Top heavy, but will climb anything. Only complaint: single screw holding back panels... I lost two, then made my own!
Use at least a 94 octane rated fuel, and it will boost your economy nicely on the hwy. Not to mention your climb!
Cheers mate. Love the video and love the bike. I've had three of them and I wouldn't think of buying a different motorcycle... It's a shame that I thrashed the first two. Bomb proof if you exclude flying 8 feet high and 20 feet down the street off of a bent rail.
im not sure if i should get the honda 650 or suzuki 650, i def dont want the klr-very ugly and i heard they are not good in trails, any suggestions would be appreciated, one advantage on the suzuki is its oil cooled and the honda isnt right?
Both good bikes so it depends on your needs. I have a dr650 k8 only thing I don't like is the small fuel tank. The money you save from buying a Dr can go towards heaps of mods. I have bash plate, barkbusters and 48 liter bag installed and all of that came with the bike for $8200 including rego etc.Still have loot to spend on tank and rejetting IF i feel like. I have ridden the Honda and its sweet.Main reason why I got the Dr? BEcause I can do majority of the maintenance on it, no fancy stuff.
Yeah sorry about the sound, they need some work to the exhaust to get them sounding sweet. I have not had a single problem with the bike that hasn't been a result of a poor Suzuki mechanic. Its a bomb proof bike, has twin plugs and few clever tricks like that. Easy to work on etc.
Same here mate, was thinking to take my baby for the free service thrown in at purchase but methinks I will just do the basics myself and take to my normal neighborhood mechanic. These dealerships really need to get their act together.
Hey my Friend, nice movie and good music. I have a DR 650 1993. I have owned it for the last 10 yeas and just can not sell it. I switch to street bikes but still in the SUZUKI "family".
Great video mate, the best I have seen on youtube.I am picking up my spanking new DR coming Tuesday.I heard the stock tires are crap. What tires you use and how much are they? I will be doing 80% road 20% fire trails. All the best and when I get my videos I will post some also.
Hey Great Video mate. Just wondering what type of tires you use. Thinking to get the same bike with majority tarmac use and a few days fire trailing. No heavy stuff.
If you ever buy motard rims, try Metzeler Z4. I have it as a rear tyre and it seems better than Dunlop (can't remember the model..) It should last longer too. They're 160 wide and 17".
Nice vid! Another Canuck DR owner saying hi, having owned three DR650's.. rock solid can do it all. It's taken me to Alaska, Utah and Death Valley.. A dirt bike, adventure tourer and even motard with 17" Excel wheels. Very versatile machine, very reliable and very fun!
Hey mate, great vid, DR 650s rock... Ive owned one for the past 3 years and they are a rock solid reliable all rounder... Ive done Cape york and Fraser island + heaps of other great spots on mine.... The suspension gets a lil soft after a few thous Ks but is easily beefed up with a stiffer spring in the rear and some good oil and a lil work on the forks... If you get the spare dough, chuck a full staintune system on her, its about $800 but will make her go and sound awesome...
good vid and a terrific bike. All it really needs is tougher suspension, corbin seat and a bash plate and you have the best dual sport you can get. Comfortable, non tiring, economical, torquey, quiet, low seat height and smooth & easy to ride
Mine is a -95 with hardened front suspension, modded bench (2cm lower and softer too I guess), SM rims etc and it is fun. Occasionally I really miss dirt riding though, guess I need a cross bike too ;)
