Tyutin's numbers were visible the entire time through the sequence. He could have easily turned away, there was plenty of time. It isn't like some of the hits you see where the player turns in at the last moment. His back was to the play the entire time, this is clearly intent to injure. Luckily Tyutin was close enough to the boards that he wasn't injured.

I dont see what you people see, Cooke slows down to miss the defenseman. Gets ready to hit a skater who was about to go around the net, and stops and looks at the boards when he's about to get crushed. Cooke also lets up on the hit, and the leaving the feet doesn't happen until the bodies become engaged. Rewatch it WITHOUT the bias.

Giving up your back is signing your own death certificate. Keep up the LEGAL hits Cooke, and as for leaving his feet, that doesn't happen until the bodies are contacting and Tyutin takes the lower position on the hit.

The comments that the color commentator starts making at :51are proof that he doesn't know the rules. I would think that in order to be a good color commentator you should know the rules. Not only was it a hit from behind Homer Errey, but he drove his head into the boards and left his feet to do so AFTER taking about five strides (then coasting) into him. He's a pro, he can put the brakesto some degree. Cooke reminds me of Kasperitus, who was also on the Penquins. He ended some careers as well.
