I actually don't have much of a problem with gun control as a policy. What I have a problem with is the government's gross distortion of the purpose of the 2nd amendment to "sporting and self-defense" purposes. There are countries with much more restrictive gun laws. Long wait on processing of permits too.

You could probably buy two Glock 17's in the US for the money you pay here for a single Glock 17. Heck, I was only able to afford only two firearms so far... Was planning to obtain an AR-15 at a local gun store... guess what? It costs like triple the amount of money than in the US. At least Saigas are a little cheaper... will try to save enough money to buy one.

I used to think america was bad because of no gun control laws but this man has woken me up. Before today I never knew that those 40 states had the background checks for concielable firearms. Personally i'm from australia and in the process of obtaining a firearms licence and its quite clear the security measures are wayyyyy over the top. I Facebook my politicians. Even when they're sponsoring tougher gun laws, I let them know that they shouldn't give our rights away - right on their Facebook, for other people to see. I don't get nasty. I debate them with examples like Israel & Mexico. Very few murders in Israel, everyone owns a gun. 30,000+ gun murders in Mexico, just year 2010, Guns are EXTREMELY difficult to get in Mexico. People call out for more restrictive gun laws. I tell them - Move to Mexico. I win debates every time.

Sootch, just a little trivia for you to know. Columbine would have still happened if there was gun control. They traced the guns they used for the shooting, they were illegally sold to the shooters, and the gun dealer that sold them to the shooter illegally got them as well. @M0rganKane Lets put it this way, the majority of illegally owned guns are obtained through Mexico from the drug cartels; they make just as much selling weapons as they do selling drugs. Banning guns will only stop law abiding citizens from defending themselves from people this way. Take away the legally owned guns, and the criminals will just have more power.

if you take guns away from what you think is everyone, some little gang will still manage to get some guns while law-abiding citizens won't break the law. you have just taken the armaments off of the victims because there will always be one glitch, hack, flaw, or problem in anything no matter how many patches you make on top of the law. you either have the citizens have guns to protect from baddies(all gun safety + knowledge) or just allow baddies to have guns. NO carry rights at all, all guns outside of the home must be locked up, away from ammo and inaccessible from a driver in a car…that mean in the trunk and locked up. And the list of restrictions goes on and on…. In NYC, just next door to NJ and having a huge influence on our state, you will find Mayor Bloomburg. NJ = Not allowed to protect yourself or your property. You must run to the back of your dwelling and yell to a intruder that you have a gun...then keep retreating unless you are cornered. If you shoot an intruder you will be arrested and locked up until a lawyer gets you off. One pistol a month purchase only allowed with permit and permits are good for only 90 day. Long wait on processing of permits too.

In my country (Lithuania, Europe) there's a big taxation on guns... yes, guns, not ammo (which in fact is surprisingly very cheap). You could probably buy two Glock 17's in the US for the money you pay here for a single Glock 17. Heck, I was only able to afford only two firearms so far... Was planning to obtain an AR-15 at a local gun store... guess what? It costs like triple the amount of money than in the US. At least Saigas are a little cheaper... will try to save enough money to buy one.

What school would you pick if you were planning mass murder? A school were students and staff might be armed, or a school were you know they won't be. I know what I would pick. Even though Sweden has among the more unrestrictive gunlaws in Europe I still envy americans. Guns isn't the problem when it comes to crime. The problems in america is primarily social. If Europe had the same kind of social problems the US have, then murder rates would be just as high here. Guns can be a solution though!

speaking of taxing i thaught that was one of the reasons for the revolutionary war and then the world wars came along (not sure which one taxes came back during) and the goverment needed money for the soldiers and the goverment decided taxation without representation was a good idea and after the world wars they where like oh well this is a good way to make money pay up or get locked up.
