  • hey i have a 1972 single elan..and i dont know what modal my carb is..it looks the same as yours..so if u could tell me what urs is that would be great..and were can i buy carb kits

  • @MEATgolber look on the flange of the carb - it will have a letter and number stamped in the side of it.

  • Extremely good info and very well done. Thanks a lot of good info. WELL DONE !

  • @mustang66022 Thanks very much for that, and thanks for watching, and your support.

  • Don't forget the butterfly valves only go back in one way. If you look closely, there is an angled edge on them so they can seat in the carburetor bore properly.

    Thanks for the great video!

  • @shumpy Thanks!

  • Where can we get a complete Tillotson carb kit?

  • @kaaite1 one that is good??? LOL< no where. The recent carb kits are all chinese crap and are useless. You need to find an old service shop and buy a kit from them.

  • Could you tell me about the washer on the needle seat? Does it go down in the hole and form to the bottom or does it go over the threads?

  • @gumpit1 yes it goes down the hole and compresses slightly when you turn the seat in.

  • Thank you! great video!

  • hey i just rebuilt my carb... it well start but when i tale the choke off it well quite? any ideas whats wrong ? ... btw im 15

  • hey are all tillitsons similar? I got a hd134a here I notice some things are different what about fuel pump gaskets?I notice you have one between the carb and diaphragm and first medal piece if this is needed on my hd, guess I just found why my sled doesn't run good thanks great video

  • @BriansFarm Yes most tillys are the same, if you need some parts let me know as I have a bunch for HD's and HR's

  • @lshobie I need a kit for an hp 5a tillotson. the carb is from the 50s

  • i just rebuilt mine, adjusted the carb to what the manual says and cant get it to start, just sputter and a fair bit of gas comes out the carb, any thoughts on what could be the problem?

  • @BSTARR600 Could be all kinds of things, change the plug, if it's an NGK they can just die from being wet with gas from flooding. I suspect your engine is very flooded now so make sure there is no fuel in the crank case - pull off your carb pulse line and pull it over - make sure no gas is coming out the pulse port when you pull it over. If you flood it you can hold the throttle wide open and pull until it clears and starts up. with the carb off will it start with a spray bottle of gas?

  • @lshobie if you didnet know a 2 stroke you dont have to worry about the gass going in the crank case its a 2 stroke thats where it goes its not like a 4 stroke that it mixes with the oil because the oil in a 2 stroke is in the gas

  • @belairlover93 Yes you do have to worry about TOO MUCH fuel in the crankcase - this gives you a rich mixture that will not burn ie. flooded. If it is flooded you need to clear the excess fuel out and make it so the mixture is able to burn - that is what a carb does when running properly.

  • @lshobie well i took the carb off and it started right up off the bottle, so i took the carb apart and everything looked fine put it back together and put it on and now it works great, these darn tillotsons can be real finiky sometimes lol

  • @BSTARR600 Ya i have had the same thing happen, I keep a rebuilt carb here ready for the start of the year, then I rebuild the other one and put it on when it doesn;t work - I keep doing that until it stops working for real. Try tapping on the carb with a hammer next time it won't start - it almost always works.

  • Beautiful vid! where do you find the parts?

  • @ulhthunder

Hello, I need parts too, any answer ?? Thanks

  • thanks for the vid, i have a 72 ski-whiz that needs some carb work, now im just going to rebuild it

  • @BSTARR600 Very cool old sled!

  • would this apply to a KeiHin carb as well? My son has a vintage '72 rupp yankee with a KeiHin carb in it. When I do the research I see it looks like it belongs on a PWC. Is this even the right kind of carb to put onto the sled?

  • @norsemomof2 the cleaning should be similar, but ca't say for sure as I know very little about Rupp sleds.

  • Omg I'm never get a sled with that carb....can u do a mikuni carbon vid.thx.

  • @dustin9000 ya i'll doo a mikinui vid this summer, make sure you subscribe!

  • great vid

  • @vort88 Thanks!

  • i just striped down my 300 ss carb because it was bogging in the top end, i seen your video on homepage and i followed it to strip it down, but i have a few concers the high speed jet didn't have a washer on it and the fuel pump gaskets were not in the same order as you put them back together??

i'll put it together without the washer tomorrow and she if the sled will run good

  • @elanboys You can probably get away with not having the washer, you should put a NEW fuel pump kit in the order I had shown - then you won't have problems, or at least put your old kit in the way I showed you and see what happens. But, if you don't remove the welch plugs and complete the full service then chances are things won't work perfectly. Thanks for watching!

  • @lshobie i got the carb back together and put on the sled, do i need to adjust the low or high speed jets for it to run smooth?

  • @elanboys or idling it is the low speed jet, turn it out 3/4 of a turn and that should work fine.

  • I like the porn groove music too!! Informative vid Thanks!!

  • @Forum356 lol, I was waiting for that comment!

  • LOL, Al Gore hadn't even discovered the interweb back then:)

  • Where was this video 30 years ago, lol. I had quite a few of the old olympic 399cc sleds. I was always having carb problems. Great video.

  • Merci! Très instructif!

  • @1969Rotax Pas de probleme! I think that means "no problem at all!" Bonne chance!
