it is the relationship between counsellor and therapist that is of upmost importance. Skills and problem solving are child's play in comparison. Whatever she gains from this session is not worth the detrimental messages she receives from the interaction itself.
mmm... yea baby...mmm...listen to me go mmmm yeaaaa......go up to the board baby....mmm...yeah.....write that on the board for us baby....great.......
I wish I had a clients that responded to CBT interventions as well as this client did. The demonstration and interaction was good but, I have to say that in all my time as CBT therapist the process has never gone as smoothly as it did in this clip. There always seem to be some resistance to change. However, it is a useful demonstration of how CBT is used to empower clients to move forward.
@rharpum You arent kidding :D But yes this was a role play just to model the steps as they happen so ppl can clearly delineate them. I work with several elderly people who are looking to make change and this therapy is extremely difficult because of hugely reduced literacy skills and very poor retention. Also with many long term solvent abusers. This is a good therapy but requires a fairly high degree of functioning.

It's not only their damn accent, but the guy looks like he just want to pick a bone with her. I want to glue his balls together with wax because he's so damn annoying. She makes me want to throw a cheesburger at her!
This video show the therapist empowering the client to find solutions/resolutions to what her presenting concerns are. Well done. Psychotherapy/counseling is a GREAT profession!
The therapist is not just going hmm yeah hmm. A therapist will guide the client to find out the soloution to his problem, and not actively advise or impose his ideas or solutions on the client. So he is asking many questions to let the client do some thinking, thereby guiding her to her own solution.
carloscastinda is correct. This is not a profession. It's a scam, ask a therapist what their percentage success rate and you won't get a straight answer. They are quacks.
The only thing they are interested in is getting you back to charge you more money. Yeah, hmm, yeah.
Maybe scientifically proven is the wrong way to phrase it, but it has been shown time and time again by independent research to have beneficial results on a range of mental health issues.

Thank you for these videos they clearly show how CBT is debilitating. This lady gave great clues that she is able to overcome her current diificulties but the therapist completely ignored past success and showed her a menu of dysfunctional thinking then set out to teach her how she is dysfunctional before giving her the magic key to becoming successful again, therefore fixing her ready for next time she faces a difficult period and has to see the expert again!
YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YES, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

Good demo - well-directed by counsellor to empower the client. Thanks for posting this, it helped me get a better handle on CBT in action.

this is really depressing, i'd like to see a therapist too to sort out my issues. feel so abnormal.
onefinalhit 2 years ago
in CBT they want the client to guide the therapy not the therapist they want the client to work at it.
rascalflattsgary38 2 years ago
isn't that a good thing?
Unknnnnn 2 years ago
yes it's a good thing for the client to guide therapy in CBT anyways

I thought not relying on others is better.

You may be right, another example of how useless these quacks are...

Academic anwer: The "hmms" are a way to show that he is payin attention
Answer from my guts:
Don´t try to argument with him. His just another white trash redenck. Go to join the Klan and leave us alone

Go join the Klan? Are you insane? Oops, obviously a loaded question. Sorry. Go back to your sessions. Idiot.

How brainwashed you sound. CBT is not a science and hence cannot be scientifically proven to work.

Ok, cite the research and please prove its independence. CBT is quackary for the uninformed and will contnue to be so.

Both this one and CBT1, were very good examples of how its done. Thanks a million for the video

The video is clearly meant to show the exploration of rational beliefs, not past successes. Talking about past success is part of CBT as well.
