I would like to hear the Vienna Symphony recording as the chorus is so heavy and coarse here that it overwhelms the solo line .Does anyone know how to find this other recording?Aafje Heynis sings Bach Arias like an angel also- a world class voice!!

Have loved Heynis' version above all others, but the one here is second to that she recorded with Sawallisch and the Vienna Symphony. Track it down if you can.......it is heart-rending, whereas this is merely excellent.

No matter who performs this work, the moving majesty of Brahms's music always comes through. I like Heynis's velvety vocal timbre and relatively minimal vibrato, approaching those of my fave mezzo of all time - Dame Janet Baker.
