As an example documenting design thinking it's a noble attempt... but I'd be embarrassed to have this on youtube. Bad problem. Bad solution. Bad design. Bad video.
This is just plain embarrassing. Cut the shitty music and just film yourselves. I THOUGHT STANFORD KIDS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE SMART. (Looks like I'll have to stick with the M.I.T. crowd)
The standard engineering design process is shortened here and actually works better than most other, convoluted, models. Hats off to all innovators who are out to prove that there is always a better way!
Iteration No 2: You have a cup which you carry in your 'school' bag and fill it when you get a vended coffee if you intend to move with it. Then you don't need to worry about fixing it to your bike.....I think they are called flasks.
Iteration #3 Quietlydoesit turns out to be not so quiet after all. Attach a cup of hot coffee to your leg and then bull=whip Quietlydoesit. Subject hops around spilling hot coffee down leg. Subject cries. Subject urinates self. Subject asks for forgiveness.
Iteration No 1: attach a cup to the bike with the lid and optional straw, just pour your drink into the fitted cup and hey presto! simple...it doesn't move or spill and it is ofcourse detachable if you want to carry it to the next vending machine....for the next top-up.
Simple solution: get a clip attached to the bike which is adjustable, put a lid on the cup with a straw which extends all the way to the rider's mouth (as an optional extra) then, hey presto! See, and I don't go to Stanford, I shovel shit in a factory.
Well it's good to see that some Stanford "Design Thinking" students can be as crap as some of those in UK university design schools!
A very weak video that borders on the embarrassing. Sort of undoes much of the marketing hype on Stanford's design course put out there by Mr Kelly...

Dreadful intro, choppy video coverage and soundtrack, poor presentation of idea development into basic product. Definitely a student effort.

yea, this was a joke like innovation... he he he

This is Stanford? Well, I'd rather stick to Algonquin, thanks.

I don't want to be a design thinker.... :D

OK - Recognize a need (bike mounted drink carrier)
OK - List the considerations (carry coffee or soda / not to fill with rain etc.)
NOT OK - Prototype and refine a product people would want
But thanks anyway xxx

This faculty is for sub-par architects/engineers.

We definitely don't expect such a lame innovative thinking process video from Stanford...Atleast don't show the world how average u guys r...hahaaaaa

7min about a drink holder..
and what if you had an accident? wouldnt you spill near boiling water all over yourself??
greed89 2 years ago
Nothing so surprise. It is no much innovation. Even a kid also can think of. The fact is you are no suppose to drink while you bike.

Excellent for teaching design process. Simply awesome.

Bad sound design.

Well, we should all agree that Design Thinking can only be applied to a certain subset of engineering problems. This fact should be pointed out.

the vid contradicts the order of the process as stated in the model. observation preceeded understanding... then again, I shouldn't be judging :)

I like it. "Simply the best" probably is going al ittle overboard. ;) How about riding u a hill - gravel path - quick stops?
I like the process - now on to iteration 12, 13, 14, 15 ....
