  • You say you cannot play. There's a couple of recent postings under "crwth" featuring Dr. J. Marshall Bevil. Check them out. He has some articles on line as well.

  • Great job in all of your instruments! It's a shame to have people just argue about spellings and such. I deeply appreciate your work.

  • Aw! Don't be so hard on yourself!

  • The Welsh alphabet is significantly different to the English alphabet. W and y are vowels in Welsh so if you know the Welsh alphabet it's actually very easy to pronounce as the w is equivalent to oo . oh and one last thing Welsh is the British language . Great instrument by the way

  • OMG-FACTS!!!!

  • Rhythms doesn't have a vowel. If you count the y, then the w here is technically a vowel.

  • Don't like it its uncorrect becuz The notes you play is incorrect.

    No i am kidding ;)

    Click That Like Button! xD

  • Something just as bizarre as the welsh! Can I ask you a question?

Is your language real? It's like somebody tripped up with a box of scrabble.

    G-Y-W-Y-L-L- ...L- ...L- ...L-L-L-L-Y-R-W-R... and that spells CAT.

  • Dear Michael,

Can you play "Happy Birthday" on it?

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • wich tuning you have on it?

  • @EmreDeMara traditional tuning g G cCDd it allows chords and melodies in the 1st position single and double fingering

  • could u tune one in gdae? the upper two strings r drones huh?

  • @Uuuurk The fingerboard is flat so it would be quite useless in this tuning, the reverse neck angle on the crwth would make arched fingerboard unable to play as the crth has no waisted area for the bow. The Crwth plays a very limited range intentionally. Now you could make a violin with drone strings, this was done in the renaissance with the lira de braccio,

  • is that an ex-chair ?

  • sky doesn't have any vowels . It's an english word : |

  • @sonicEX238 y is sometimes considered a vowel thats why they say " a,e,i,o,u, and sometimes y"

  • @Cones34 DAMN IT !

  • the original spelling was crwydd, and both w and y are vowels in Welsh. so there.

  • all the comments made about the spelling of the word crwth and it's apparent lack of vowels is a really good illustration of how petty some of the arguments on youtube can be.

  • @JackyRowe actually they are a very good example of people knowing nothing about linguistics and thinking they do just because they can talk, read and write

  • Stupid instrument witouth vowels

  • It has got two vowels in it, a double u.

  • RHYTHM

  • @spartanses Well Rhythm has a Y in it which gives the sound in it. Some people count Y as a vowel. Crwth has no real sounding letter to it.

  • @spartanses

    and syzygy

    :)

  • This instrument sounds terrible.

  • It looks like a lyre and a violin had a baby.

  • it looks like a disfigured violin

  • who came from #OMG facts?

  • @Agibbs727 xD! we both came from #OMG facts! #OMG! lol

  • there's one more! Rhythm!

  • Really interesting. The instrument and learning about the only english word without vowels. Thank you, would love to hear more!

  • @danceswithcrayons It's not an English word it's in Cymraeg.

  • @danceswithcrayons Also, "Why" has no vowels.

  • @Netty07 A E I O U and some times Y (when its the last letter of the word)

  • @Netty07 y counts as a vowel dumbass.

  • @xDelta6543x technically by definition it doesn't. Sorry.

  • @thefamousrobloxian hahaha what do you mean by "technical definition of vowel"? What science does it belong to? I'll tell you, it belongs to linguistics, more specifically to its branch called phonology. Vowel definition is a forever discussion among linguists, but "y" in Rhythm is clearly a vowel 'cause it has an open sound with no contact between articulators so there's no friction when the air comes out of the mouth. Vowels are not graphic symbols but SOUNDS, by TECHNICAL DEFINITION.

  • @DiegoElArbol ...-bows down-

  • I would love to see BFMV use that in one of their songs

  • Lol i looked this up because someone told me this was the only word without vowels

  • @jake77713 haha i just got this off a facebook fan page

  • @jake77713 what about rhythm?

  • @jake77713 cwm

  • @jake77713 why, fly shy, by, sly,

  • @jake77713 'crwth' is a welsh word, and in welsh 'W' is a vowel. So is 'Y'. Btw 'W' is typically pronounced 'ooh', so crwth is pronounced like 'crooth'.

  • I think you play great on the crwth, keep playing!

    That's an amazing instrument.

  • It's pronounced "krooth", like "tooth" but starting with "kr-".

  • how the fuck do you pronounce it???

  • @miniclip12345 Krooth is how the fuck you pronounce it. :)

  • This is not a crwth. A crwth has 3 strings and does not use a bow. This is a crwth-trithant which has 6 strings and a bow. It was a spin off of the crwth so the common people could play it. you should correct the title to Crwth-Trithant.

  • Sorry, but that is incorrect, The reverse is true in actual fact, the 3 stringed crwth was the one called the Crwth-Trithant, not the 6 string model which was the preferrred bardic instrument, the 3 string was considered inferior. Whether the Crwth proper descended from the 3 string Crwth trithant is open to debate.

(see Groves music disctionary/Musical instruments by engel)

  • @hannahcarol13 Well then what do Insturment do I play? what Insturment am I being taught by my Crwth Instructor and why dose every dictionary in this language define the word Crwth as a Celtic insturment with 6 strings played with a bow?

  • @hannahcarol13 actually.. this is a crwth it is played with a bow and has 6 strings

  • @hannahcarol13 your stupid. read some wikipedia stupid

  • @hannahcarol13 the clue is in the name,,crwth-TRIthant. tri meaning three.

  • What a cool sound! very magical.

  • That is an amazing instrument! I need to find one someday and teach myself it!

  • Fantastic! Love it!

  • good work. That's really even older then the music I mostly play, very interesting...

  • so proud of you son have sent it to martine olove dad and bea

  • Oh Gods! I want one. Where in the world are you? And how much would you charge per crwth, bow and instructions in how to play?

  • it's a welsh instrument, im from wales and im doing a project on it, i don't know how much it costs though! It's quite old too so...?
