You say you cannot play. There's a couple of recent postings under "crwth" featuring Dr. J. Marshall Bevil. Check them out. He has some articles on line as well.
The Welsh alphabet is significantly different to the English alphabet. W and y are vowels in Welsh so if you know the Welsh alphabet it's actually very easy to pronounce as the w is equivalent to oo . oh and one last thing Welsh is the British language . Great instrument by the way
@Uuuurk The fingerboard is flat so it would be quite useless in this tuning, the reverse neck angle on the crwth would make arched fingerboard unable to play as the crth has no waisted area for the bow. The Crwth plays a very limited range intentionally. Now you could make a violin with drone strings, this was done in the renaissance with the lira de braccio,
all the comments made about the spelling of the word crwth and it's apparent lack of vowels is a really good illustration of how petty some of the arguments on youtube can be.
@JackyRowe actually they are a very good example of people knowing nothing about linguistics and thinking they do just because they can talk, read and write
@thefamousrobloxian hahaha what do you mean by "technical definition of vowel"? What science does it belong to? I'll tell you, it belongs to linguistics, more specifically to its branch called phonology. Vowel definition is a forever discussion among linguists, but "y" in Rhythm is clearly a vowel 'cause it has an open sound with no contact between articulators so there's no friction when the air comes out of the mouth. Vowels are not graphic symbols but SOUNDS, by TECHNICAL DEFINITION.
@jake77713 'crwth' is a welsh word, and in welsh 'W' is a vowel. So is 'Y'. Btw 'W' is typically pronounced 'ooh', so crwth is pronounced like 'crooth'.
This is not a crwth. A crwth has 3 strings and does not use a bow. This is a crwth-trithant which has 6 strings and a bow. It was a spin off of the crwth so the common people could play it. you should correct the title to Crwth-Trithant.
Sorry, but that is incorrect, The reverse is true in actual fact, the 3 stringed crwth was the one called the Crwth-Trithant, not the 6 string model which was the preferrred bardic instrument, the 3 string was considered inferior. Whether the Crwth proper descended from the 3 string Crwth trithant is open to debate.

Great job in all of your instruments! It's a shame to have people just argue about spellings and such. I deeply appreciate your work.

Rhythms doesn't have a vowel. If you count the y, then the w here is technically a vowel.

Something just as bizarre as the welsh! Can I ask you a question?
Is your language real? It's like somebody tripped up with a box of scrabble.
G-Y-W-Y-L-L- ...L- ...L- ...L-L-L-L-Y-R-W-R... and that spells CAT.

@spartanses Well Rhythm has a Y in it which gives the sound in it. Some people count Y as a vowel. Crwth has no real sounding letter to it.
