Beautiful. Love that is beyond. Love like I experienced in 1966. Because I was young and immature, we did not get married. We both married others, than ran into each other again in 1971, were still in love and again became separated. Than miraculously we reconnected in 2009, still in Love. She still is as beautiful as she was in 1966. Someday despite obstacles we will be together forever. Beautiful Song. Thanks for bringing back memories.
Thank You All for your comments thank you and Im very glad this beautiful song may bring you all beautiful memories like it does to me, Thanks You All
I first heard this song at the Top 5 NCO Club, Field Station Asmara (Kagnew Station), Eritrea in 1969. I was having severe problems with my wife at the time and, attempting to drown my sorrows, spent a LOT of time in the club while she was out running around. To this day, it still brings a chill to the back of my neck when hearing it. Thanks for posting it here!
A friend I have not seen in 48 years sent me this link today for my birthday. After all these years she remembered how much I loved "Al Di La." I was 15 at the time; I got a 45 and played it over and over and over. It still touches me the same way. Thank you, Penny.
Sorry to see the statement made by rjohn191 made a year ago, but Troy Donahue was one of the few young idols of the late 50's and 60's that was not gay. You can Google and read his bio. I was a young girl when I first saw this movie and this song (even though I don't know the language) is so beautiful. Thank you videoflying333 for posting this on YouTube.
It is a great thrill to be able to find these snippets of our youth. Videoflying333 sorry to see your comment about your girlfriend. Your love for her and your sharing this with all of us is very much appreciated. It is to sad that today's youth do not have such wonderful movies and songs to romance by. There were just so many romantic songs, movies and musicals in the day. One of my personal favorites is "One Enchanted Evening" from South Pacific. Cheers to you all!
This song brings back memories. I saw this movie and just met a fellow. We lived about 50 miles apart. The next time I saw him and we were kissing I could only think of this song while he was kissing me. The movie was just great and wish we had more like them nowadays. Thanks for posting and bringing back a memory for me.
i was in the air force in 1962/63 stationed in Crete Greece and we saw this movie about 25 times during the two weeks it was in the base theater. brings back memories to an old guy
I have this movie on my DVR and every night I watch it. I loved Troy Donahue and Suzanne Pleshette. RIP to both of them. There could never be anyone who do this movie the way they did.
Saulo Cruz You make my mind to return at my teen age, wh ere love was everytghing to get life.

@saulocruz1 I saw this movie for the first time tonight and I am hooked I just love it and this wonderful song muma mia It is so wonderful thank you for sharing this song and your sorrow, my heart goes out to you
I ever loved this song and this movie , in my teen years i had a crush on Zussanne Pleshette becouse this movie that saw a lot of times maybe 7 I find Susan adorable I realy feeled sad when I learn that She died becouse of Cancer ,RIP We love You
Marcello mastroianni, Susan Pleshette, Troy Donahue, Angie Dickinson, Al Hirt, and the great tenor here Emilio Pericoli....What a cast. And the best thing about this film is the sights and sounds of Rome Italy. Que Bella!
This to me is the best rendition of this most beautiful song, sung by Emilio Pericoli.
This is from a great film called;" Rome Adventure". The true star of this picture is the city of Rome Italy, and the many fascinating places this film take you. It's just gorgeous film, and wish I were there every time I watch this movie.
Forty-Nine summers ago, at a drive in near Pittsburgh, PA. Her name was Lois Neuherz...I was about to ship out overseas. Saw this movie and heard the song for the first time. Have no idea what happened to her over the years but, despite having been married now for nearly 21 years, I have never have forgotten this song or that evening.
My GF and I went to see this movie in the spring of 1962. We were in college and struggling with love! Love was handling us and we couldn't handle love. I gave my GF this song as her graduation present. As I played this song in her residence hall I felt such a feeling of love and emotion for her. I knew then what life was all about. While we didn't make it (we did not get married) it has remained a very sentimental memory for me.
Does it really matter what Troy D was? He was handsome, a relatively good actor for romantic parts and Suzanne Pleshette was stunning. They made great chemistry on the screen. Rest in Peace both of them.
As for this song and movie...one of my favorites. Thanks for posting this song.
This song was my boyfriend's and my song back in 1962. We went to the drive in and it rained so hard you could hardly see the screen. But we still could hear the bearutiful song, On the way out of the drive in the radio played that song. He looked at me and said "that has to be our song." He died three years ago. I will always miss him.
What a beautifull song so thoroughly expressed from the depth of soul. Choreographed so equisitely - only an Italian can express such feelings. Remarkable.
caroler01- Was not intended as a gay bash, merely a tribute to Pleshette's remarkable beauty at that time in her life. But yes, Emilio was great. It's one of those songs that pops into my head few years and I can't shake it until I hear it. But with my fauly old memory, the first place I looked was "Al Martino." Age is not my friend.
This is so good. Emilio is so wonderful. He is frozen in time. And to rjoh19: "Hopelessly Gay" does not apply today. It was a movie and being gay would not have worked they way it does now. Hopefully in love for anyone, even then.
This most beautifull, tender Italian song led me to falling in love -- we watched the movie together -- long long time ago with someone I have lost track of and have never seen again but who often still comes to my miind. A man also never forgets !
I love this song! Al di la'(más allá, beyond the beyond), ci sei tu (estás tú, there you are). Can anyone tell me the name of the movie or the name of the two actors in the video? Grazie!
OMG this brings back memories of the man who I will never forget....even though I haven't seen him in years. Remember watching this movie (LOL well maybe not watching) in a drive in. JM if you are out there, I will never forget you EVER!!!
@diane613 I feel the same way about a girl I met during the same era. Yes, the drive in's used to be full of people like me & others...Too bad they're all but history now. "Rome Adventure" is a classic much like "Summer Place" too.....
As a kid, we spoke Spanish and English at home -- still my Mom played Emilio Pericoli's AL DI LA all the time. Haven't heard this tune in years. It takes me back to a time when Latin music often crossed-over and made it on the mainstream English charts. Thanks!
I must have seen this movie 20 times or more in my life. One reason, I had a crush on Suzanne Pleshette, another Al Hirt playing this song, but most of all to hear this song. A friend sent me a CD which included it years ago after I had spent so long looking for it unsuccessfully. I listen to it almost everyday. Ever since the first time I heard it this has remained my favorite song.
One of my favorite songs in one of my favorite movies. Suzanne Pleshette and Troy Donahue so young in one of the most romantic movie scenes ever!......Ah to be young and falling in love again.
@RichardKuz Yes...to be young again, know what we know, and fall in love with passion and abandon...life is way too short to miss out on these moments.
OMG just saw this movie on Turner Classic, great song, great trip down memory lane.Luv it...............p.s. Troy Donahue was NOT gay, nope that was Tab Hunter.
Thanks for posting this. I loved the movie when it came out and the theme song (Al di la)... many things have changed since this film was made, but the Italian scenery and the music are as beautiful as ever!!
I dedicate this song in Memory of Suzanne Pleshette-one of my favorite actresses and by far my favorite movie of all time. May she rest in eternal peace.
i just discovered this film yesterday and heard this song for the 1st time. mamma mia what a voice, why didnt she fall in love with the singer instead of him?! ^^
What a song and what a face. If listening to that song and enjoying the incredible visage of Ms. Pleshette cannot turn him, Troy D. was clearly hopelessly gay.
This song was a great hit in the 60's on the Juke box, I can remember sitting in a smokey Cafe listening to this song being played over and over again. Takes me back down memory lane.
mueran de envidia wisin y yandel y la bola de reggaetoneros chafas que enajenan a las ignorantes masas nunca haran nada como esto, una obra maestra de la canción.
