Hi Dave well iOS 4.3 is actually out today - i have it on my ipad and both iPods. There are new multitouch gestures on the iPad 1 and 2 and I love them. Included are the 4 finger swipe and the scroll through open apps as well as the pinch to go home as they said. I agree it is a intermediary step between iPad 2 and 3 later this year or next year. I will wait till then to upgrade as i do not use facetime and i have my iPod touch 4g in case i do. Goodish review though.

@chrisgr00ver I agree it is a good update, not enough for me to switch but i think that those who want to buy this will be happy. I will stick with my iPad 1st gen until the 3rd gen though to see what changes. I agree that $800 bucks for the Motorola is way too much money.
Listen in the end who ever likes what will buy it. Apple will never dominate like Windows but it doesn't need to. It has a huge loyal fan base and it's not gonna stop making great products. I'll be at Bestbuy Friday morning to pick mine up.
Each OS has it Pros and Cons. Apple has their pros and cons as well as android and rim and webos. I think the OS is a simple system and is very limited on what you can do to it to make your own. Apples anouncement with ipad2 was a complete fail, because they did not have the next tablet out with dualcore ect,
@patronovski why are people so focused on this smooth touch to zoom. Honeycomb is just as smooth and its really about the experience on the tablet and ios just is to generic and stale.
I don't agree with you on developing iOS and Android apps. I'm both Android and iOS dev (I do more Android). I can tell you that Android is a much worse operating system to write apps for, especially apps that require use of audio/video framework. It's just broken! Each manufacturer implements their own native AV framework and the app runs differently on each phone. iOS has a much more sophisticated and fully implemented frameworks for devs. And I have much more pleasure developing on iOS.
As I explained in a comment on one of your previous videos, Apple can only double resolution (practically), as they did with the iPhone.
Increasing resolution incrementally (e.g. to 1280x960) wouldn't work with scaling existing applications. And doubling resolution would be too expensive, and it would require some serious processing capabilities.
Anyway, as you said, the OS is now the biggest problem with the iPad.
@legr8est1234 I don't agree the OS is the biggest problem, other than notifications. People like tablets exactly for the reason that they are not PC's. People don't want a consumption device to be like their PC's, especially a PC that looks like its straight out of 1989.
@christschool I never said the iPad's OS needs to be more like that of a PC. But it needs to offer more usability and customizability. Notifications is one of those problems. A lack of widgets or widget-like applications is another. Multi-tasking is clumsy. The homescreens look boring and dated. These are just some of the iPad's problems.
@Ernest4502 Actually its not a great insight, its something Apple has never done. They have never put RAM spec out in either their press releases nor their spec pages. Its just new to Dave because he doesn't pay attention or do anything in depth other than read spec sheets into a webcam.
@Ernest4502 I'm not sure what you mean by "given in the subsequent non-apple spec sheet". Apple has never released RAM specs for any of its idevices, starting with the iPhone 1. The only way people have figured out the RAM was through tear down sights like ifixit, but even then, in the newer devices, its hard to tell because ram is part of Apples "system on a chip".
No, I don't think Dave is correct because Apple has never revealed how they utilize RAM or what type of RAM they are using.
@Ernest4502 Dave's video success has two parts, read spec sheets, dash a little opinion in and wrap it in an entertaining presentation. I don't think he knows a lot more than the average tech blog reader. That's not a knock on him, he's just an enthusiast. But, some of his opinions are not well informed and I just wanted to point that out to anyone that is taking what he says here as fact.
The reason i prefer iphone or ipad is IOS the operating system is the main factor for me apps are worse in android than in apple and same story why i am on mac, again operating system is what i am after, there is no point to have good screen but OS is no so good!
I think you've hit the nail on the head once again Lack78! My problem is I don't feel I can yet recommend anything other than the iPad2 to none techies because without the apps they don't see the reason on buying another tablet. I'm sure in time Android will catch up. I have already pretty much decided that I want a Motorola Xoom and next week I'm off to the USA and I hope to track one down and try it out for myself. As a tablet for me the honeycomb OS is designed specifically for tablets and t
Leaving things out is called planned obsolesce, it's technically a pretty good business's technique, but Apple are just way to obvious about it, and in a lot of cases ,like the iPad for example, you actually feel really down and out when other companies and Apple themselves release the next thing that your Apple product should've had in the first place.
i think people will be more happy when ios 5 comes out. Also, it would cost too much to up the display, people would complain either way. XOOM sucks; cheapest price point is over 700 dollars & android marketplace has only about 100 tablet optimized apps where as the apple had (if im remembering correctly) over 1,000 at launch. The average consumer will not go for the XOOM believe me. The iPad is more consumer friendly and i think apple is criticized too much for keeping customers happy.
lmao! I loved Dave's expression on his face at 8:00 about the mute/rotation lock switch! I do agree with the UI of iOS. It feels dated now compared to the other options from Android and WebOS. Keep it up Dave!
I agree fully..the wow factor on this second gen iPad is about 4/10... This has some great features don't hate on me now, more horsepower in the engine, a camera front and back, and FaceTime which I'm sure many people agree, who uses it REALLY? I think apple is just taking people for a ride like they are known for and saving those big features that people will actually be impressed with for the iPad 3, 4, 5 and so on....I mean theres an iPhone 5 coming out right? So I'm not taking anything away
It's not high resolution enough, it's not light enough, the OS is outdated. Dave you must be joking right? It's lighter then most 10' tablets without using cheap ass plastic back, it's higher or equal res then most, stable OS that's simple intuitive my granma knows how to use it. I do agree IPad should of had camera on 1st gen.
Very factual video Dave. I agree, but I think that apps is the key thing. At the moment, iOS has more apps than HoneyComb, and until there is more, iPad will win
my guess is that after Lion comes out later this summer they'll make some iOS changes because they dont want to have two tottaly different OSs thats why half the stuff from iOS is gonna be on Lion.
i want my mabook pro to be a tablet - even without a new special touch specific os update. But with an update it would blow every other tablet out of the water
You can't please everybody. He's right about o e thing though Apple is sort of shady in how they deliberately leave out certain features like camera iPad to include it later then if you already brought the first one you want the second one. When I saw the 1st iPad with no camera but they added a camera to the little tiny nano I knew they left it out on purpose. But I am a sucker for Apple technology so I just sell the old buy the new.
"apple is playing catchup"? iPad been out almost a yr. They created this market. iPad 2 was expected to get dual core processor. They are the ones trying to catch up with Apple. Apple doesn't have problem with not having biggest market share they've always had that with pc's yet they succeed. Android is like Windows an OS that runs on any cheap crap.
stop bitching about sd, usb n shit. you know apple already. they want a stream line product. if u want firewire usb all that shit then get a laptop. tablts r not ment to replace computers stop acting like they r.
I bought the Moto Xoom and it's not good. You never know how good the iPad is until you really look at the closest competitors. Honeycomb is buggy and without much of any support. In my week hours with the Xoom, I had to restart the device over 5 times because the browser wouldn't launch; not that it has flash to enjoy anyways.
Dave, you can say that the Xoom will be great someday and I'll most likely agree with you, but don't say it's anything but what it really is; a huge, pathetic joke.
I was, too, a bit disappointed with what the iPad 2 is, but I know that it's the best option right now and will be the best option until the Touchpad (We'll have to see how HP handles their first tablet with a mobile OS). If they don't get the app support, nobody will buy it. The kind of synergy in WebOS is great, just not in a platform no one is interested in. iOS with synergy would be enough to put Apple on top for years. Unfortunately, Apple are perfectionist; which causes delays in features.
I hoped for at least 1GB of RAM, a mayor software upgrade, a front facing camera, a dual core processor, and an optional HD display. To my disappointment, only one of these wishes was fulfilled. I think I'll pass this one, I'm just gonna keep my good old iPad and wait a year more for the iPad 3, which will hopefully grant all my other unfulfilled wishes.
Dave, you have to stop thinking of the iPad 2 like it costs as much as the other tablets. The iPad 2 is $499 and the most expensive version is $829 (Can't convert because Apple always charges more over there). At $829, you get 64GB of storage, 3G, and all of the applications. The bottleneck you talk about won't be reached anytime soon. Maybe within 2 years you might see some bottlenecking, but come on, Dave, not anytime soon.
I think the complete package is more important than specs, Ipad2 has similar specs to the competition. The Motorola Xoom may have more RAM but does that make it better? I say we wait and see what the performance of the Ipad2 is before we judge it.
iOS 5 will address many of those issues. But hardware specs are irrelevant. What sells a device like this is the experience. Apple is selling the iPad based off the App Store, and rightly so. Who cares if Android looks prettier? Would you rather have a pretty UI that does so little or an iPad that can do everything from video and music creation to spreadsheets to document creation in ways that are far better than what is offered on Android? The iPad is the most functional tablet available.
I agree. Android tablets will be much better for now. Apps are being developed, but 3.0 is currently to fresh to compete, but we will see a range of more powerfull tablets, in a wider variety of size and prize. Hope iPad 3 will be better.
how can you say Apple hasn't done enough when they've gotten the weight down to 1.3 lbs and yet you want it lighter, and then youre comparing it with a tablet such as the xoom which weighs even more than the first generation ipad model. Apple has great engineers and I think they've outdone themselves when you consider how much is packed into such a thin and light design.. especially at that PRICE! The screen is high res enough. the xoom has more pixels because it's larger.
Can't wait til they come out! Definitely going to get one. I really want them to cut the cord with iTunes though. Then I can make it my primary mobile computer.
Also, with there being a full iWork suite, iMovie and GarageBand for the iPad, and home sharing with iTunes, all Apple seem to be doing is giving me LESS reasons to buy a Mac...
I think the majority of people buying the iPad (either one) are not the kind of people who go to the Tech Specs page on the iPad section of Apple.com and base their decision on that.
The majority of people buying this have a certain purpose for it. For education, the education apps on the App Store and video mirroring will seal it. Photographers will want it for editing and exporting, etc.
Me for writing with Pages and now GarageBand. There are some of us who frankly don't care about specs.
i wanna point out that apple are charging for more of the profits off app developers on the app store, it dosent look like much now but eventually they are gonna snap and just move to android....... apple have the technology to beat the arse's off android phones but if they dont stop this marketing scam of holding features off they are gonna slip right back into the same free for all zone.......
its sad, your points are totally correct. If Android develops native media apps that are on par or best that the current iOS(4.3) media apps, it will put a much huger dent in Apple's Table lead. Apple's media app is what's really holding there lead. I love the new iPad,but I love the other tablets like HP's TouchPad(WebOS 3.0) and Samsung's Galaxy Tab(Android OS 3.0) a bit more.
Personally I think it was a good update. The only thing I was hoping for was a higher res. screen but then again that would have pushed the price up alot. I also think it is a shame that apple didn't upgrade to 4g but then again that would have pushed the price up considerably also. I think apple packed what they could possibly pack into this thing without changing their prices.
Yes, iOS does need an overhaul; however, I think the physical specs are suitable for what people usually use a tablet for. Had they not redesigned a thinner model then yes, I'd be disappointed but they designed this stuff in a pad that's WAY thinner than any other tablet out there and with more battery life. Finally, there's the cost. The Xoom is like $800 where the ipad can be purchased for $500. That's a significant difference.
I don't think other manufactures will catch up the ipad 2 remember is REALLY good value now they have lowered the price by £100 in the uk so i think it is now a great buy!
If you put the iPad 2 next to the original iPad does the new ones display look any better or is the display identical to the old ipad....... any better at all?
Good points. Don't forget they could have put thunderbolt in and be a leader in that way cos syncing via USB is just too slow. Remember the first generation iPod was FireWire!
My thoughts with the iPad 1gen and now 2 gen is that a big waste of money. I have an ipod touch 2nd myself and well thats enough for me. The ipad sure it fun to mess around with the apps [which i've done with it in loads of computer stores] but I dont see what Apple see's in it :/ personally I'd rather spend the extra €200 on getting a mac book, which I'm planning to due this summer. So i think Apple needs to up there game and design something better for Tablet's
@RobbieSwan1987 does that really look like a HDMI port to you its called VGA (analog) which is about 3 times the size of Hdmi and half the quality lol.....?
People buy Apple products because it's Apple, not because of the connection ports etc it has. I love Apple and don't care if they put USB on it or not. Other tablets for me, and for many others, will always be 2nd best. No, that doesn't not mean Apple is the best but I don't mind. I'll buy Apple because I have faith and confidence in the brand.
In my opinion (and I'm making guesses, since I'm not an iOS developer or anything like that) - Apple got their priorities right with this upgrade while keeping the price the same. Yes I am looking forward to seeing what will happen with iOS5 but I'd still end up getting the iPad 2 for the iMovie & Garageband apps, Facetime etc and then upgrade to iOS5 when it's available. Just my 2 cents...
From what I understand maintaining compatibility with older iPad apps re - screen estate would mean either keep the resolution at 1024x768, or double to 2048x1536 which would have inc. the price considerably. Not to mention anticipated demand for such a display size & resolution would far outstrip supply - remembering how many iPad1s have been sold. Idk how much more a tablet screen with that resolution would cost - but I guess it would up the price of the iPad to a Macbook - or not far off.
I think apple are relying on the app store to keep customers loyal to the brand. The most important update should have been the resolution os the screen. Apple have a habit of staying behind the competition as they have done for years with their notebooks and desktops {processors}. They try to make up for this with their software. I will make a purchase from apple at some point but it certainly won't be a ipad!
I totally agree that Apple can do much more on the iPad 2. However, I think what Apple has done is enough, especially when the iPad 1st gen is not even 1 years old. Think of it like iPhone to iPhone 3G or 3G to 3Gs. I believe, iPad 4 would be the right time when Apple make a HUGE change (like iPhone 4).
@tszheichoi also, I believe design is a lot more important than specs. The design defines the way users experience specs. Without a good design, even with super specs (like many PCs and tablets do), users can hardly experience it. I think Apple understands this point, so, they focus on design more than spec this time (iPad 2). After all, iPad is all about the touch experience, right?
I think they you are right in some way, they deliberately withhold useful features, 1gen - no cameras, now VGA front camera, whats up with that? They made a big fuss when they put HD camera in MacBook Pro they released last week, why didn't they put the same camera in iPad 2???? I dont really care about the camera, just saying they could have done much better job there.
What I care about is Retina Screen and its not there!!!!!
Not worried much about IOS as you can get it when it comes out.
Guys remember specs are not everything. I love iOS and Android I've had both since they came out, but you gotta hand it to apple, their OS runs twice as smooth than any competitors. I could have a pc that has kickass specs but if the os runs like crap it doesn't matter. And dont doubt the iPad, it has done wonders, specially for autistic kids.
I actually enjoy iOS just how it is. It's at the point where I know everything about the OS, and there is nothing that I haven't explored or figured out. I like that. When I use it, I don't feel that mystery of not knowing what's coming next. It's the same as with video games. If I can't visually remember the entire map I'm playing in, I get frustrated by the game.
thanks for the good info for keepping us well informed before we committed to purchase a new tablet...i also would like to have your thoughts on Asus Eee slate 121 advertised on Microsoft webpage, it will be very interesting to have your observation on this tablet pc.!!
S.J., how about waking up and finally making a good iMac. The one unblemished by the endless saga of a yellow tinge/ grey smudges/ backlight bleeding/ inability to wake the computer up from the sleep by touching a key or mouse. Have I missed something?! S.J. get well and stop triffling!
so many people who use the first gen iPad are quite satisfied with it. I am seeing friends of mine use the iPad for scholastic purposes and work purposes only for typing and compact stuff. But I agree with you Dave... i'm sticking to my MBPro... though I'm pretty impressed w/ the new design... the white backing, and the thinner design and still having the battery life be 10 hrs is still impressive. Nonetheless, portable super machines AKA MBPros are still your best bet for dependability...
Good review. Apple really needs to step up their game in this. but no official specs have been released as far as cpu graphics or ram and therefore you cannot really bash anything that isnt there yet. Next week, be my guest i couldnt care less about iPad2 i have number 1 because it looked like a cool thing to buy. I also despise ios4 and was actually thinking of jailbreaking mine and just finding a linux or something to install on it if i could find one.
Dave, I disagree with you.Sure, motorola zoom has better processor and higher specs, but user experience sucks. It suffers significant lag and battery life takes a hit.Apple on the other hand focuses on user experience, they managed to bump up the specs and still maintain same 10 battery life in a much thinner package. That's quite an achievement.Along with iOS 4.3 apps will launch much faster and and system is designed to run flawlessly.
Why does everything from Apple have to be ground breaking? Can't they make smaller upgrades like everyone else? Don't get me wrong, I'm not an iPad fan. I have made vids about why I don't like it. I'm still laughing at the people you laid down the cash for the first gen.
Thank you please spread the truth. Thank you for opening the eyes of many blind Apple followers. Show them that they are buying into a communistic, lower grade, and overall inferior device when they buy an ipad/ ios device. So if you buy an ipad you have the same specifications as android device's all while paying more for what the rest of non-Apple people have. That's my rant :)
@xpossed355 I would be genuinely surprised if thats the case .. I know the larger markets like the UK are getting it then .. but here in Hong Kong I suspect we will have to wait longer ... Apples Marketing sucks .. for some reason Australia ranks higher than Asian countries ...
Marketing sucks all together. countries other than america will have to wait which sucks. i think they will sell and earn more if they sold it all at the same time.
So many people love the whole "Apple experience" they buy first gen products on first day of release and they all know that they would do better to wait for the 2nd gen to come out. I see the ipad 2 more like what the first ipad should have had in the first place that is why I waited to buy one. When you can get an ipad for 499ish. with an already amazing app store, I don't care what the Xoom can do at 800. it is way over priced When compared to the iPad. I can't wait for my iPad experience
When the original iPad was released I wasn't very impressed until I actually used one in July. I have thought about buying one but the more I time I spend without one the more I see it as a novelty. At first the iPad 2 looked really good, but the more I think about it the more I share your opinion.
Recently I've started to like Apple less and less and am taking a better look at Android.
We'll see how things look with the launch of iOS 5 whenever the iPhone 5 comes out.
Android has many different platforms.. so its always going to be a step in front apple only have ONE phone a year wheres as htc, sony etc etc release multiple phones through the year
You are right they have enough money to develop better products but, why don't they. Apple rests on their laurels you are right. Time for some improvement.
why would you want an ipad? It's honestly just an oversized ipod touch, It isn't gonna be any good for real work, it's just a toy. If you need something for getting stuff done, get a macbook.

Anyway, as you said, the OS is now the biggest problem with the iPad.
legr8est1234 11 months ago
@legr8est1234 I don't agree the OS is the biggest problem, other than notifications. People like tablets exactly for the reason that they are not PC's. People don't want a consumption device to be like their PC's, especially a PC that looks like its straight out of 1989.
christschool 11 months ago
@christschool I never said the iPad's OS needs to be more like that of a PC. But it needs to offer more usability and customizability. Notifications is one of those problems. A lack of widgets or widget-like applications is another. Multi-tasking is clumsy. The homescreens look boring and dated. These are just some of the iPad's problems.

I never even noticed that they omitted the amount of RAM in their press release.
Great insight, as always !
Ernest4502 11 months ago
@Ernest4502 Actually its not a great insight, its something Apple has never done. They have never put RAM spec out in either their press releases nor their spec pages. Its just new to Dave because he doesn't pay attention or do anything in depth other than read spec sheets into a webcam.
christschool 11 months ago
@christschool Point taken !
However the ipad RAM capacity was given in the subsequent non-apple spec sheets wasn't it ?
Regardless, I think DAVE's point it still quite a valid one.......More processor hungry application(Garageband,...etc) demand more RAM.
Nevertheless apple do make products that don't have lag issues and wouldn't put 128 mb of ram in their new ipad because they would be fools to do so.
Ernest4502 11 months ago
@Ernest4502 I'm not sure what you mean by "given in the subsequent non-apple spec sheet". Apple has never released RAM specs for any of its idevices, starting with the iPhone 1. The only way people have figured out the RAM was through tear down sights like ifixit, but even then, in the newer devices, its hard to tell because ram is part of Apples "system on a chip".
No, I don't think Dave is correct because Apple has never revealed how they utilize RAM or what type of RAM they are using.
christschool 11 months ago
@Ernest4502 Dave's video success has two parts, read spec sheets, dash a little opinion in and wrap it in an entertaining presentation. I don't think he knows a lot more than the average tech blog reader. That's not a knock on him, he's just an enthusiast. But, some of his opinions are not well informed and I just wanted to point that out to anyone that is taking what he says here as fact.

I think apple is just taking people for a ride like they are known for and saving those big features that people will actually be impressed with for the iPad 3, 4, 5 and so on....I mean theres an iPhone 5 coming out right? You can't please everybody. "apple is playing catchup"? iPad been out almost a yr. They created this market. iPad 2 was expected to get dual core processor. They are the ones trying to catch up with Apple.
Dave, you can say that the Xoom will be great someday and I'll most likely agree with you, but don't say it's anything but what it really is; a huge, pathetic joke.
iDiggMGL 11 months ago
I was, too, a bit disappointed with what the iPad 2 is, but I know that it's the best option right now and will be the best option until the Touchpad (We'll have to see how HP handles their first tablet with a mobile OS). If they don't get the app support, nobody will buy it. The kind of synergy in WebOS is great, just not in a platform no one is interested in. iOS with synergy would be enough to put Apple on top for years. Unfortunately, Apple are perfectionist; which causes delays in features.
iDiggMGL 11 months ago
I hoped for at least 1GB of RAM, a mayor software upgrade, a front facing camera, a dual core processor, and an optional HD display. To my disappointment, only one of these wishes was fulfilled. I think I'll pass this one, I'm just gonna keep my good old iPad and wait a year more for the iPad 3, which will hopefully grant all my other unfulfilled wishes.
ElZamo92 11 months ago
Dave, you have to stop thinking of the iPad 2 like it costs as much as the other tablets. The iPad 2 is $499 and the most expensive version is $829 (Can't convert because Apple always charges more over there). At $829, you get 64GB of storage, 3G, and all of the applications. The bottleneck you talk about won't be reached anytime soon. Maybe within 2 years you might see some bottlenecking, but come on, Dave, not anytime soon.
iDiggMGL 11 months ago
I think the complete package is more important than specs, Ipad2 has similar specs to the competition. The Motorola Xoom may have more RAM but does that make it better? I say we wait and see what the performance of the Ipad2 is before we judge it.
robbansv 11 months ago
iOS 5 will address many of those issues. The iPad is the most functional tablet available.

how can you say Apple hasn't done enough when they've gotten the weight down to 1.3 lbs and yet you want it lighter, and then youre comparing it with a tablet such as the xoom which weighs even more than the first generation ipad model. Apple has great engineers and I think they've outdone themselves when you consider how much is packed into such a thin and light design.. especially at that PRICE! The screen is high res enough. the xoom has more pixels because it's larger.

There are some of us who frankly don't care about specs.

its sad, your points are totally correct.

I think apple packed what they could possibly pack into this thing without changing their prices.

I dont understand why the os on the ipad is the same as on the iphone. Apple should take more advantage of the power and the bigger screen.
roger767 1 year ago
Yes, iOS does need an overhaul; however, I think the physical specs are suitable for what people usually use a tablet for. Had they not redesigned a thinner model then yes, I'd be disappointed but they designed this stuff in a pad that's WAY thinner than any other tablet out there and with more battery life. Finally, there's the cost. The Xoom is like $800 where the ipad can be purchased for $500. That's a significant difference.

Aside from the hardware updates to the iPad 2, the OS is severely outdated.
I had an iPhone 3gs and within 2 weeks i was wishing for something more. So i got a HTC Deisre, endlessly more customizable and capable.
One of the reasons i think Apple haven't totally revamped iOS is because it needs to be simple and easy to use. Which is why everyone loves it.
Making it more like Android will through off the older generation of users.
Apple = For everyone

Dave think about it, why would they put a display res bigger than Laptop Display. They would have to open a new app store area for the iPad 2.
delonholmes92 1 year ago
In my opinion (and I'm making guesses, since I'm not an iOS developer or anything like that) - Apple got their priorities right with this upgrade while keeping the price the same. Yes I am looking forward to seeing what will happen with iOS5 but I'd still end up getting the iPad 2 for the iMovie & Garageband apps, Facetime etc and then upgrade to iOS5 when it's available. Just my 2 cents...
Westsound191 1 year ago
From what I understand maintaining compatibility with older iPad apps re - screen estate would mean either keep the resolution at 1024x768, or double to 2048x1536 which would have inc. the price considerably. Not to mention anticipated demand for such a display size & resolution would far outstrip supply - remembering how many iPad1s have been sold. Idk how much more a tablet screen with that resolution would cost - but I guess it would up the price of the iPad to a Macbook - or not far off.
Westsound191 1 year ago
I think apple are relying on the app store to keep customers loyal to the brand. The most important update should have been the resolution os the screen. Apple have a habit of staying behind the competition as they have done for years with their notebooks and desktops {processors}. They try to make up for this with their software. I will make a purchase from apple at some point but it certainly won't be a ipad!

I totally agree that Apple can do much more on the iPad 2. However, I think what Apple has done is enough, especially when the iPad 1st gen is not even 1 years old. Think of it like iPhone to iPhone 3G or 3G to 3Gs. I believe, iPad 4 would be the right time when Apple make a HUGE change (like iPhone 4).
tszheichoi 1 year ago
@tszheichoi also, I believe design is a lot more important than specs. The design defines the way users experience specs. Without a good design, even with super specs (like many PCs and tablets do), users can hardly experience it. I think Apple understands this point, so, they focus on design more than spec this time (iPad 2). After all, iPad is all about the touch experience, right?
tszheichoi 1 year ago
I think they you are right in some way, they deliberately withhold useful features, 1gen - no cameras, now VGA front camera, whats up with that? They made a big fuss when they put HD camera in MacBook Pro they released last week, why didn't they put the same camera in iPad 2???? I dont really care about the camera, just saying they could have done much better job there.
What I care about is Retina Screen and its not there!!!!!
Not worried much about IOS as you can get it when it comes out.

Recently I've started to like Apple less and less and am taking a better look at Android.
We'll see how things look with the launch of iOS 5 whenever the iPhone 5 comes out.

I think iOS5 should be totally different. They need an update as big and as good as OSX was to OS9

as long as iOS 5 is a massive update, I don't mind that iPad 2 is a small evolution

One thing Apple did do right is the price 500 dollars as opposed to 800 for the Xoom.

You are right they have enough money to develop better products but, why don't they. Apple rests on their laurels you are right. Time for some improvement.
