i played this piece at a camp called Stat Lake Music Camp. I play the alto horn. its a long piece if ur listening to it. I was in the higest band, star lake band thats why i got to play it its a good song.
This does not sound like any SA.band i remember, more like an outside contesting band. One could always differrentiate between the two,but something has been lost nowadays, perhaps it is their sense of purpose!
I think you are generalising about SA Bands. The ISB has always been a showpiece band for the SA. Portraying Brass Banding at its very best for the Army, and encouraging and setting the standards for all SA Brass Band musicians. Why should the devil have all the best as the Founder once said. Things have moved on you know. Maybe not all for the best.
No Seb, but it does mean that they do not know the meaning behind the piece's they are playing. I've heard many an Outside band play Celebration.. And when it gets to the ending, there is no other band better at it then the ISB, or any Salvation Army band. Outside bands just don't know when to put the emphasis on certain phrases, simply because they do not know the lyrics that go with the tunes.
It seems like none of the ISB appreciate any instrument other than the cornet or Euphonium. . . I would love to hear a nice trombone solo from these guys for once (i realize they play some, but they are few and far between)

Even so, what is wrong with a contesting band? does it mean that the Lord hasn't made each and every one of them?
