  • Why do u sync the track to the tick, shouldn´t u sync the tick to the track so the track bpm stays the same?

  • great tutorial. I haven't touched traktor for a while as I've been focusing on my production work, but you've really laid it out simply so I could jump right back into squaring my tracks away. Now if only I could train a monkey to do it for me...

  • Brilliant video. Am struggling with old skool hip-hop though... I beatgrid the intro so i can mix into it with loops, but then the grid is wrong by the time I get to the end of the track, and if I tweak it so the grid is right at the end, it's wrong at the start.

Frustrating... Might be worth taking these tunes into Logic and using Flex Time to quantize them to a beat I guess?

  • @chubstar666 I think Traktor will quantitize for you, all you need to do is place a few more beat grid points and adjust as necessary. What I do for tricky songs is put a grid marker at key points in the song or (generally) after 32 beats and then push the grid where it needs to go. hope that helps

  • @chubstar666 Hey mate maybe try set a second beat grid in the outro or last 32 beats of the tracks and then sync it, works 80% of the time, its a neat trick for older tunes, or set a loop some where in the track that you know is in time them mix out of the loop. or else just do it oldskool ;)

  • Thank you for your time and your video tutorial. I just calibrated my Traktor Pro-2.

  • Wait never mind,I took it off snap and now it's way easier to control the start point and not they sync perfect. For some reason traktor syncs inbetween the kicks with it's own start point.

  • @IOTA1985 Yeah - traktor may not lay down the right grid, in which case you have to move it using the buttons. Looks like you figured out what snap does too, so thats cool. Keep having a play with it and it'll all come easier. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for the tutorial, but I find it does not sync the tracks well at all, isn't the point of beatlock to beatlock for you?I find it very finicky,I'm just using it for internal mixing, for messing around, but it still SHOULD do what it's suppose too. Thanks for the tut again tho,but it hasn't solved the issue completely.

  • @IOTA1985 contrary to popular belief ...Traktors sync button works well when u beat grid each track as shown here. alot of work is to be done on every track before a flawless set can be done.

  • very good tutorial. Thank you! Must admit, I am only doing this for a hobby, can´t beatmatch at all, but with Traktor 2 and this introduction how to set the Beatgrid even I can do it. Cheers Mate!

  • @ahrisp Thanks for the comment - glad I could be of service to you.

  • very useful thanx

  • @west818coastin Thanks for the comments

  • very useful

  • thank you mate!

  • thanks very helpful!

  • this just like warping on ableton right? mayb a lil less work than ableton 8?

  • @sickenChill Ableton warps the track in a very clever way, traktor doesn't man-handle the track quite as much, but overlays a simple grid. Ableton is very precise once you have mastered it and is a more precise way of stretching and manipulating the track. Traktor does the job for most DJ's and is a great way to keep beat grid ding simple.

  • @traktortips thank you for the reply! n if you don't mind i have another question.. after i beat grid a few track to test it out ( it sound great with just the macbook n my headphone) but when i hook it up to my cdj's n mixer, all the tracks does not sync..doesn't matter what i do. Any solution to that problem? thanks

  • @sickenChill When you connect the gear, audio setup becomes external. This would therefore mean that all tempo controls are now controlled by the decks and not by the internal settings. You can click internal mode again and revert to the synced way of DJ'ing and then you'll be good. When using CDs to mix I would recommend using the phase meters as a guide and set the deck playing out as the master and the overall metronome to Auto.

  • @sickenChill one point that was missed, once you do all this work for each track and it sounds great where you have it, make sure you push the lock (top left of bpm box), this will save your grid so when you later use this song the grid will be setup correctly, otherwise you'll have to redo this everytime.

  • would be good to see a video on hip hop tracks and tracks with odd tempo changes.

    but great video man.

  • @flux302 I'll try and get a video like that up - many people have questions in relation to setting grids on tracks that change tempo.... cheers.

  • right, my beatgrids are always great, but suddenly... whenever i try to set a cue point or set loop points whilst the track is running, it never snaps to the grid lines! it used to, but now it doesnt, any help? :/

  • @MAXYkissmeimcool - You need to snap and quantize - in TP2 you will see them top centre. The buttons simply have an 'S' and a 'Q' on them.

  • Great video, but I cant get the tick to work, it hightlights, but then nothing. How do you set that?

  • @katoman20 hey man thanks - yeah you need to make sure that you have the volume up in the headphones for the tick, or make sure the audio routing is going through the right channels.

  • thanks the audio routing is wrong. I heard the tick through the speakers, so what do I need to reset?

  • @katoman20 depends what set up you're using and how you want it. The tick can be checked at the top under the metronome section - or there is a little headphone symbol in the advanced drop down under each deck. That headphone symbol is also a tick but it goes though the monitor channel, so whatever output you have set for the monitor change in the prefs is where you will see it - cheers.

  • yea I followed the setup to the tee, I am using 2 decks, with a laptop and dennon mc6000 mixer, but I know something is wrong with the output, so if you could run it down to me, it would be much appreciated

  • @katoman20 - I just made a post - go check it on my website traktortips . com

  • so once youve adjusted this all for one song it retains this info forever? next time i load it will i have to do this again>? thanks

  • @Audionstudios Yes - it will be saved.

  • hey there.....great video, i learned quite a bit with this.....im having trouble with my traktor though.....its playing my songs way quicker than the bpm is showing and i have to move the tempo down to get it sounding right.....any tips on how to fix this pleas???

  • @BRYDEN1985 Maybe this new vid will answer your questions - i can't link here but check out the video called "Tempo Range"

  • Thank you Very very much

  • Great tutorial, a lot more in-depth and well explained than others.

  • @Wigley2010 Thank you!

  • Thanks so much

  • great video, but when i install traktor 2 onto a different laptop, will it also bring all myy beatgridded tracks when i copy them to the new harddrive?

  • @assais Hey thanks - if you install onto the same computer you will be fine, albeit you will still have to re-analyse the entire collection. If you install onto a completely different computer you will have to copy your entire traktor music library onto the new computer also - I have a video showing you how i manage libraries between 2 computers......."Transfer Collection"

  • I was just about to throw my Traktor Kontrol S4 out the fucking window cuz I was so pissed it didn't sync.. Thank god for you man, you just saved me some money!

  • @grondal08 Excellent - cheers my friend

  • wicked stuff mate, cheers!

  • at last top man!!!! thank you....

  • @adisupernova Thanks ;-)

  • at last top man!!!! thank you....

  • thanks man, that worked perfect!

  • @moriamortem ;-)

  • man, i do all those things and the grid doesn't appears like you showned, what's wrong? i just can see the standard bars on the decks :(

  • @moriamortem Hey - did you lay the grid marker down and have you changed the preferences to show full grid lines instead of faint lines?

  • @traktortips For some reason.. This doesn't work for me at all.. When I set a gridmarker, the other gridmarkers doesnt move at all... and they wont move when I use the grid marker arrows as well.. What am I doing wrong?

  • @topfluffer Maybe press the reset button in the deck to erase the things you have already done on that deck. Make sure there is only one grid marker set on the track. If zoomed out you may not realise that the marker is actually moving as it moves such a tiny amount. Try it with the tick sounding too and you should notice a difference in alignment of the tick sound!

  • @traktortips well there's a bunch of problems when im trying to do this.. I usually just mix with timecoded externally, so I wouldnt bother that much about the grid, but what bothers me is that traktor messes up with the bpm detection, and I guess that's connected with the grid markers.. But when I set the marker, the other lines doesnt follow the rest of the beats.. the bpm count never changes even though I try to set the grid markers differently..

  • @topfluffer There is still a benefit to beatgrid even if you use external scratch control. You can use the phase meter on each deck as a guide to see how accurate your mixing is. But make sure sync is off. As soon as you press the sync button it will jump away from the vinyl message as to where in the track it is, unless you are in absolute mode. You can still control the track with the vinyl, but the speed will be controlled by the internal clock. set deck to master before u switch to intern

  • @topfluffer Also, if you are using scratch mode, make sure the deck you are playing is set to master, then when you are beatmatching the track on deck b, the phase meter shows you how aligned the tracks are, but only if the beatgrid is set correctly. If you are beatmatching by ear, make sure the sync is off, as the sync reverts the deck to internal mode again.

  • @traktortips yeah I know.. But the problem is setting the beatgrid correctly.. Cus' for some reason, no matter how many accurate beatgrid markers i set, the bpm doesn't change at all.. so the other lines doesn't allign up with the beats..

  • That made sense! Many thanks.
