there are literally thousands of green lanterns and they come in all colors, shapes and sizes. there are even several "white" lanterns that have protected earth at one time or another. the most famous being hal jordan, then kyle raynor the second and guy gardener. john stewart is the first "black" green lantern to guard the sector earth happens to be in. thanks for viewing and reviewin'!

There are basically FIVE GLs from Earth, John Stewart was introduced in the early 80's, first as a sort of "backup" to Hal Jordan, but eventually he took over on Earth, and then actually became GL of the GL home planet, in a great comic called "Mosaic". In my mind, he's the most mature of anyone who had that role.

Also, he isn't a wuss like Hal Jordan!

The producers have acknowledged the events of Batman Beyond, where Warhawk was revealed to be John & Shayera's future son. They just want us to 'put two & two together'(Bruce Timm). John just needs to think awhile; he's feeling like a puppet of destiny. It won't last with Vixen; she'll see he's still in love with Shayera and leave him.
