Frank loved listening to doo wop records while growing up and had a large collection of doo wop singles from the 1950s. According to FZ's autobiography, he and Captain Beefheart would raid the Captain's father's bread truck at night and sit around eating pineapple buns and listening to doo wop and blues albums for hours. Frank put several "straight" versions of his favorite doo wop songs on his later albums.
The original bass & drums are perfect for these songs. This is deceptive simplicity.
i read zappas autobiography, he explained that the main purpose for this song that he understood that back in the day, all those doo wop songs, suggesting that one will find their true love & live happily ever after, that did not happen to alot of kids. it turned out to be B.S.
@mdees100 Yes. If I remember correctly, this album was Zappa's answer to doo wop which he couldn't stand. It was supposed to be a spoof but it caught on and became popular.
@Shackamaxon You remember incorrectly, sorry to be a noodge. FZ adored DooWop and found it a sincere expression of his time. This also didn't catch on and become anything.
got no place to go.
