Another brilliant demo Sarge! You have such smooth phrasing of all your licks, they're like butta! Really brings out the dynamic nuances in those killer tone machines. What pickups you got loaded up? Thanks for the demo man
@timrav9122 You are too kind! Thanks man! This yellow Charvel is one of the few guitars I've really bonded with (my R8 Les Paul being the other.) It's all stock with a Duncan JB in the bridge and '59 Model in the neck.
@maxlamenace987654321 Thanks! I wasn't fully cranked, but I did used to play pretty darn loud at home. Sometimes I'd be louder at home than on stage with the band.
@SgtThump I'm serious Sarge - you'll love the MKII! Best effects loop too. The clean channel alone is worth the price of admission. Oh. and the gain - yes the gain...
Thanks. That's one of those newer USA Charvel Production Models. It's a San Dimas Style 1 in "Taxi Cab Yellow."
This wasn't exactly one of my top color choices, but it played and sounded better than around 5 or 6 others in the store. I kinda wanted white, black, or maybe red. But I couldn't deny that this one rocked, so I went for it and couldn't be happier.
thanks for the reply, very much appreciated. i need all the help i can get as i am up in canada with little hope of trying either of these amps. the grangers sound nice from what clips i've heard and they are hand built by one guy. great price too.
Hey sgtthump, i noticed that you had a stiletto a while back. i am thinking of selling mine to go to something like the landry or maybe a granger firestorm. what do you think?
The first Stiletto I had I absolutely loved, but traded it off. I wasn't gigging at the time, so I didn't try it live.
Then I got another one a year or two later and used it at a gig and hated it. I don't know if the two sounded different, if my ears changed, etc... Not sure what happened, but it was bright and harsh not matter what.
The Landry sounded much better than the last Stiletto for sure (to me.)
I've never heard of the Granger Firestorm!?!? I'll have to read about that.
I think the Landry sounds more articulate and harmonic - especially in chords. Sounds better to me. Man, if I only had the dough I'd be gettin' me a Landry LS50 as quick as I could press "buy".
It has the Marshall "Vintage" speakers, which some say are really just Vintage 30s with Marshall labels. But I'm not so sure they are EXACTLY Vintage 30s. They sound better to me. :)
Could be the camera or some such but I notice all these amp demos sound very similar and a little sterile. The landry amp make'rs videos sound quite amazing though.
I don't remember exactly, but I think I had most of the controls at noon (except for the volume.)
On the JCM800s I used to own, I'd have the bass cranked and the treble and presence rolled back ALOT. But this amp is different and didn't need to be setup with drastic settings like that!
Ya know, I'm real close to getting a head switched. The only thing that's keeping me from it is that you're not supposed to have effects "trailing off" when switching heads.
So in other words, you're not supposed to use a head switcher if you use reverb or delay on one of the amps. Since I like the reverb on the Landry (alot), that kinda sucks!
I see what you mean , as there is a really nice-sounding reverb in the Landry. Well...there's always the EVH WET-DRY-WET stack set-up, or let them add delay or 'verb at the 'board.
Nice job as always Chris. I'd say they both sound really similar with the Landry sounding more "refined" and a tad cleaner. The 800 is a tad more ballsy.
Nah... Alot of the '80s "Super Strat" style guitars just have a single volume control and no tone. Heck, alot of them just had a single humbucker in the bridge and a volume knob (no other pickups or switches.)
Thanks man! I went through a good 5 or 6 new Charvels and this one stood out for whatever reason. Just sounded the best to me.
It's funny, because I went there to get the SoCal model with the pickguard and one that's not so "loud" in color, but I couldn't deny that this one sounded the best.

killer tone, great playing!
You seems to not be cranked a lot on this vid right? I'm surprise to hear tones that good, at this volume... no attenuator?

Yes, he is close mic'ing the speaker like you would do in a real studio recording. I'm using the camera mic. I don't hear the "sterile" part, though.

Thanks man! Both are freaking GREAT amps! You obviously get alot more with the Landry, but this particular JCM800 2204 freaking rocks!
