bondo sucks you will love evercoat cuts super easy paint shop is junk i hate it primer goes on like paint and the paint is like water but as you said cheap
I have personally used the duplicolor paint systems prime base and clear color sanding the paint between each coat to make it glass smooth then 5 coats of clear let it dry for a week then wet sanded and buffed it out then a good coat of wax looked like a show car for about 2 weeks then things started to take a turn for the worst the clear started to haze up and now it looks like a stealth paint job. For what I payed for the duplicolor I could've got Omni brand paint and its cheaper
I the last shot you see of the paint all shiny is the clear coat. It dulls up real quick too. If you want to do this just to get some experience playing with paint it is ok. But I don't recommend this product if you have higher standards. The durability is poor. If you want a cheap paint job I recommend the Earl Shive ambassador paint job for around $600. Remember that a top notch paint job from a good shop usually exceeds $2,000.
Dude. . .You Are Simply A Fucking Badass! Rush & ZZ Top. And a badass ride.
Well what i wanted to ask you is,Is this stuff worth it? Is the primer good? How about the paint itself did it give you any problems while laying it down? How has it held up?
Um, I would almost recommend saving up for a paint job by a pro. It dulls right away when left outside. This paint is not even remotely as durable as polyurethane. I only recommend this if you are on a shoestring budget. The other thing is that it is a but load of work to wet sand and buff it out. It is good if you are trying to build massive chest muscles! At this price level I might a well save a couple of more bucks an have Earl Shive give it a quickie.
That paint is actually Acrylic Laquer. You will need to rub it out to get a good shine. You can even color sand between coats to get a better finish and hiding. Also, you will need to finish the primer to a smoother grit than you would with a more modern paint. Alternatively, you can use a urethane (catalyzed) clear over the top of it and just use it as a base coat. It is very good cheap paint, just like the old days. I like your car & the way it's coming along - thanks!
@pistonfreddy ... I agree about using it as a base coat. contrary to popular belief the paint (not clear) when thinned with lacquer thinner (10-20%) lays down very well, if your on a budget buy the base coat and buy a good 2 part (catalyzed) clear coat from an auto paint shop. DO NOT! use the duplicolor clear coat, it does not hold up to gasoline, one drop of gas and your paint job is ruined. Made the mistake of using it on my motorcycle.

Lacquer should always be thinned with lacquer thinner.

This stuff isn't true lacquer like in the old days, it is something different. The manufacture recommends acetone as a thinner.

Good video. It is really educational for me. I am also experimenting with paint and trying to get my coats as smooth as possible.
