  • I love the Hunter too. I had one for nearly 30 years but lost it last year in Australia. I felt quite quite under-equipped without it around the house, so I bought one online - same quality and feel after all that time. And you are right about the saw. I was on a hike with some friends when I decided to saw off part of a fallen branch which was about 6 cm thick. I knelt down and sawed through it in about a minute. I looked up at my friends and they had their mouths open in awe.

  • yeah i had a cheap sak knock off from china shut n my fingers when i was abut 11 or so. it bled averywhere and i had to use a towel and compression to stop the bleeding. needless to say my mom took the knife away ,but' it wasn't my fault

  • how do you sharpen the saw teeth?

  • @Firearms4Canada

I did a video on this just a few months ago.. check out our archive :)

  • Those 111mm Victorinox saws are worth their weight in gold. I was sad to see the Side Lock replaced with their Liner Lock system. I always felt the Side Lock was a little more substantial, but was a failure point on many of those in my collection.

  • @muddog1561 Man that is so not true of Mac computers my wife and I both use Mac as well as our 9 yr old son. she my wife is a photographer,my son and I just surf and YouTube. So don't buy in to all the PC BS that is put out about Mac is bad you can't do this you can't do that 15 years ago that was true but not to day

    Ps. very good video

  • Great knife, great video!

  • The shirt is awesome... The Man, The Myth... DAD

  • great video my friend! ever think about doing a quick tip on how to sharpen the saw?

  • Hey, Dave check out Vision Computer's. Don't play into the Mac non-sense those things will break down to, and the linux thing is just another O.S.. Anything is going to have problems. You buy a Mac and you won't be able to do anything with it that you want to do because Jobs is a petty dictator and locks all of his stuff down to a great extent.

  • Great informative video, as always, my friend.

The Hunter is a good pocket knife.

    Saludos.

  • That's why you get a MAC, bro, otherwise it will just happen again - just the nature of Windows PCs.

  • i just subed yesterday and i have a question do u hunt much or do hunt when its a survial need?

  • I didnt know you could use stainless to strike a firesteel

  • @boulevardtalonman

I was always told you couldn't.. but it works on Mishmetal steels. Not as well as high carbon steel.. but it works in a pinch

  • @BushcraftOnFire Theres no alchemy about this, the only thing that matters is hardnes of the striker, the hardness of the material is the key. Stainless is typically softer, but only with cheap steels. Have RAT1 made of aus-8. its hard and works well. with steel and flint its maybe different, other than carbon steel probably hasnt desired properties - didnt tested flint+stainless to be honest.

  • @boulevardtalonman

If you read the information about the steel that Victorinox uses on their site, they say that it is a high carbon stainless steel, so throwing sparks with it should be no problem at all.

  • I keep a victorinox treaker in my pack. great knives.

  • What a nice chap and another great informative video. Thanks for sharing your skills and experience. D

  • Hey Dave could you do a video on how you would sharpen a saw in the bush? Thanks for all the hard work you and Tam put into all the videos!!!

  • Actually, SAKs from Victorinox have not the best steels yet. If you check Wenger, wo do the issued SAKs nowadays, you get better blades and price-to-value-ratio.

  • on my sak lock blade I did a full convex edge on it , man what a difference . might try that one day. lol

  • nice job

  • Cool!

  • very nice. Thanks for sharing!!

  • 15 years... what a quality folder! I love all the victorinox model, I have a cadet as an EDC blade. For the money all of them is a bargain and if you take care of them they could serve you a lifetime. Thanks for sharing Dave!

  • great video, with winter coming in the northeast, snowmobile season is coming soon. last year i carried a 4"x 4" by 2 1/2 deep water tight container, most with first aid stuff. I have seen alot of your fire starting videos but the one with the bow and fire board,, I know you notch it but do you drill your hole thru ..i guess I'm just not clear on a few of the finer details. We did have a break down about 5 miles into the woods and i guess id like to see it done in wet snowy conditions, please

  • @MrDowneast

You drill only deep enough to hold the spindle in place. There are a few videos (Winter Camp Bow Drill being one of the best) on the technique. We don't get many wet snowy conditions here.. but if we do I will try to remember to do a vid on it :)

  • @BushcraftOnFire Thanks Dave,,your the best !!

  • Another great video and review!

I have an old 20 year old swiss army knife that does not have the locking feature and I have cut my fingers when the blade folds back.

I will have to check out the "Hunter" SAK.

I would also like to request to see a video on how you sharpen your saw blades.

    Keep up the good work.

  • @PathofTorah4life

Victorinox... It's pronounced "Victory Nox". I might have accidentally thrown an "a" sound in there.. don't know why I did that.. but that's what it sounds like.. LOL

  • Hi,

We call that curved blunt tip serrated blade the " gut zipper ". It does an amazing job at field dressing a white tail without breaking open the smelly parts! Well the extra smelly parts, they're all smelly :D

For around $40.00 you really get your moneys worth!

  • Before I ever heard of EDC, or was into having several folding knives, this was in my pocket for over 5 years. I have the one with the (worn off) red scales. Can you maybe do a video about how to sharpen a woodsaw, like on this knife or any other woodsaw? Thank you.

  • If you are in the market for a new folder\multi-tool and you decided to go with a "Victorinox Hunter", but sadly they are out of stock, etc.. then I would suggest you to get "Victorinox Forester". It's basically the same knife minus "gutting tool", with a liner blade lock, which also locks "cap lifter" tool, so you can use it as a prybar, or as a flathead screwdriver, without any worries.

Victorinox liner locks allow a little bit of play up and down, but it does not affect the safety at all.

  • Good knife and perfect awl, thx for showing. Greetings Sepp

  • Outstanding! You really can't go wrong with a Victorinox swiss knife! I always keep my Victorinox Spirt multi tool on me and it has some great blades and tools. I keep different swiss knives in gear bags & in the car because they're a great "tool" to have in an emergency.

  • Ohhhh ya, I know all about the blade coming back on the finger...plenty of cheap knife scars HAHA! That is an incredible knife. I have a Helle knife made here in Norway. It is a good sized knife I always carry when I am hiking. I am thinking I could use one of those knives. How much does it cost?

  • @phatmanwalkin

When I bought the blade it was in the mid $30's IIRC

  • @PathofTorah4life I think he says victorinox correctly, althru with some strange accent. Look victorinox com if you never heard of it.

  • Hey I like this video Thank You.... can you teach us or me how to carve like that? Love Ya All.... andye

  • that curved serrate would do good cutting a bad dalli off a thousand pounder.....I think I just found my next pocket knife lol, do they make one with a firesteel?

  • i have thta one too, but my is red

  • Great video, and I love your shirt. :) A good knife is always handy, never know when you might need one. Keep one with me at all times.

  • I've had my hunter for 22 years, and it has never been more than an arms length away from me. It has done everything from buttering toast to skinning and preparing game. I have even lent it to a vet to do a sheep autopsy. In 22 years it's only ever had 1 new pair of tweezers and 3 toothpicks.

  • great review

  • David you make really neat and informal videos that i really enjoy! Thanks

  • How do you sharpen the saw?

  • Hey David, I would love to see you show how to sharpen the saw blade.

  • I had a verry simular wenger knive I loved it, yes the locking blade was good but sometimes sawdust stuff got into the mechanism and you couldnt un-lock it..

it got nicked out of my car.. bastards...

My dad has caried a smaler swiss army knive for decades with him everyday I,ve seen him cut open his finger tips many times because of the blade or screwdriver closing while using.... he still loves it

  • great video!

  • Thanks for the video, Dave! I would also be interested in seeing how you sharpen the saw blade.

  • May want to fix your aspect ratio.

  • When I bought my first Swiss Army Knife, I had a choice between this knife and the "Climber" model. I chose the Climber, the only reason being that they didn't have the Hunter in the classic red color. To this day, I still use my SAK for about everything.

  • I used to be carry Victorinox SAK (Swiss Army Knife).

Although after a short time mine got loose and after a time got dangerous.

I eventually switched to a pocket multi tool.

  • Great video David. Looks like a very good knife.

  • I would like to see a vid on how you sharpen the SAK saw thx

  • Great video.

  • Victorinox are some of the best pocket knives ever made.

I use my Victorinox Outrider everyday.

Good to see you back Dave!

  • I've got a wedding anniversery coming up...Maybe I'll just wittle my wife a spatula...Thanks for the idea.

  • @scruffymeigs You'll have to build a dog house for yourself if you give your wife a spatula for an anniversary.

  • i have a bunch of china wantabees but they are all in the drawer for if all else is not avalable at the moment / my EDC is a clip lock blade (china) 440 stainless with Jeep stamped on the side (it was a gift) it works well for me right now

  • Very nice video, I remember getting my first Swiss Army knife my Dad gave it to me when I was 8 years old man I was on top of the world then. Keep up the good work and God Bless.

  • Love the shirt.

  • i have a wenger soldiers knife. the steel is very very soft. its not that usefull but it reminded me of my first ever knife cause it has the exact same tools

  • I also carry a Swiss pocketknife, although mine doesn't have a saw. I also have a Leatherman but don't carry it for everyday use because it is a bit bulky. Victorinox use great steel in their knives.. I'm not a big fan of multipurpose tools but its better than having none as my wife will tell you, shes always asking to use my Swiss knife for something. Great video. thanks.

  • I would like to get one of them to go with my SAK Rescue Tool which is my EDC.

I'll send you my vid on it.

    5* Dave.

    Rob.

  • Get a Mac.

  • Oh, great knife by the way. Love my Hunter.

  • I can see duckys in the background. Lovely. Great video. Thank you. Blessed Be
