  • How is the recoil? Just put one on layaway today... Gotta have something and I got this for $250!

  • hit them in the head,,,,it will stop them....btw that taurus for the money gives the smith and wesson snub a run for its money......and what kind of review was that cmon man

  • is there a heavy recoil?

  • I have this exact gun and i am looking for a belt holster... what holster do you use.?

  • @browntown8787 I have the same pistol and have carried it for many years in an Uncle Mike's Open Inside The Pants Holster. I've carried a variety of guns in an even more varied assortment of holsters, and for warm weather carry, the Taurus U-L / Uncle Mike's has been my favorite combo. What works best for you may be different, but the UM's holster is inexpensive and I'd recommend giving it a try.

  • Just a tip, buy the smooth double action only with no hammer spur for conceal carry, it dosent drag pulling from the pocket or cover, but the trigger pull is 16#, so buy the reduced pull trigger springs from numrich and replace the trigger spring only, not the hammer, the reduced hammer spring would not fire half the primers, but with the new trigger spring, its a dream to shoot, ultra lite, and snag free on the draw!!!

  • make a vid shooting off your collection!!!

  • I was given the ultra-lite .38 special by Taurus from my father en-law before moving to Cali. Well it has been in storage for the pass year since I've been out at sea most of the year and I went to take out and shoot it, but I don't have the key for the trigger safety. What can I do????? Please help so I can have some fun at the range and teach my wife how to shoot it, because my next unit I could be out to sea even longer and would like to make sure she can use it.

  • "I normally carry the Taurus 45 auto with 10+1 hollow point for stopping power.

Nothing beates a good 45 at your side."

.357 Magnum is a good defensive weapon, also.

  • hahaha Make sure its unlooked first! ;-}

  • @MrWer1138 I'm not sure what you mean by "unlooked"! I'm thinking you meant to put "unloaded" but you didn't. So make sure you look at what you wrote before you post it. ;-)

  • @Tegulicious Fuck it,I misspelled my fuck you reply to hahahaha

  • @MrWer1138 I just thought I would get you on it, it's all in fun!

  • @Tegulicious hahaha I know,I went to you,re page and subscribed. You dont have alot of subscribers yet but from the look of you,re vids I bet that changes. ,\m/

  • Take the key and throw it away!

  • cylinder release is the name of that button

  • I was wandering is it normal to have shells stick inside the cylender after firing? I just got a new gun , A Taurus 617 357 magnum 7 shot and after every reload. I have to use a rod from the front to punch out the shells. Will this eventually stop, or is there something wrong with the gun? Any info would be appreciated. I was using 158 grain

  • @SPANKY5ful It is not normal. I do not have that problem.

  • @SPANKY5ful; it is the sign of extreme-high pressure! even the load is moderately high pressure, you can push the empties with your hand. if you're using the rod or pushing against a table, then you should stop the shooting session immediately. if the primer is flattened completely with hard-sticky extraction IS the sign of extreme-high pressure load! even in rifle or shotgun, hard extraction means very-high pressure. not safe and not good for the gun and the brass if you reload... SD

  • @SPANKY5ful When the cartridge is fired the exspanding gases stretch the cases, making them fit tighter inside the cylinder. The purpose of the ejector rod is to force those cases out of the cylinder. Every revolver I've ever shot (A LOT!!) I've had to use it.

  • @SPANKY5ful could be the ammo...do u use steel or aluminum cased amo?change it to brass and see if it helps

  • @SPANKY5ful i used to have that problem with my 22. I changed brand of ammo and this solved the problem

  • @SPANKY5ful Yes it is normal. After the round is fired, the shell expands. That is why the rounds drop in when new, but there is the bar on the front of the cylander to use to push rounds out, because they do not fall out on their own.

  • @SPANKY5ful Sounds like you're using .38 Auto in a Revolver..that is STUPID and can get you killed. Take a class so you don't hurt someone.

  • would this weapon take crismon laser grips? Would this weapon put a person down with one shot? I am thinking about buying this weapon, any info would be appreciated. I like the size plus the price, I dont plan on shooting it alot, more of a weapon for home and car carry

  • @SPANKY5ful You can put laser grips on it. The 38 special has always ha stopping power issues, but it is better than nothing,

I currently carry a Ruger 380 LCP, yea it too will have stopping power issues. I will also carry a 45 ACP too, but the 380 is preferred because of it's size, before all this, I only carries the 38 because of it's size and weight.

The most important part is to be confident in the weapon you carry, and to make sure you will carry the weapon.

  • @runman1271 stopping power? have you ever been shot? a .22 is stopping power unless you are talking about armed, trained combatant's. .38 special will knock the wind out of someone wearing a vest, that in itself can be enough to stop most.

  • @michaelofnewbabylon Stopping power? The U.S. military, FBI, CIA and US law enforcement used the .38 The 38 was found to lack stopping power, Heck, even the 9mm has a lack of stopping power.

Having a .22 is better than nothing.

.22lr 40 grain muzzle energy is 116 ft. lbs.

    .45 ACP

    230 gr. JHP Hydra-Shock 890 fps 404 ft-lbs

i am not the smartest person but 404 ft-lbs seems a lot more than 116 ft-lbs.

  • @SPANKY5ful .38 special isn't the most powerful handgun round available, but it's certainly respectable, especially with modern hollowpoint ammunition. It was the favored police sidearm caliber in the US and Canada for most of the 20th century. It'll get the job done if you shoot straight.

  • @SPANKY5ful man i tell u what. i could shoot u with a .22 lr and it would put u on ur knees, if not take you out with one shot. so just saying...dont knock it till you try it! and by the way...u need to shoot a lot so you can shoot someone who comes through your door, if not. there gonna take it away from you. good luck!

  • The button to release the barrel is called a "latch"

  • I have the titanium ported version. Oh btw that part is called a "cylinder" and "cylinder release" lol....sry!!!!

  • i own a .38 taurus ultra light... i love it

  • Is this a good gun for the lady of the house?

Is it to much recoil for the ladies because it is so light?

  • @jdrdsn

Lots of self defense guns specifically for the ladies is chambered in .38.

Recoil is mild with a 38 even with a small gun.

  • Could I realistically expect to buy a new model 85 ultra lite without experiencing any problems? It just seems like alot of people have reliability issues with these guns.

  • I've always felt that these little internal locks are bad ideas. For one, it only aids in the thought that there should be a law that requires all guns locked. Also, it's easy to think you unlocked the gun but when you need it's locked.

  • taurus made smith made it all made in china

  • @softgel1000 actually made in brasil

  • I think that taurus is the best. because over all its really a good gun that is Made to be safe. and if you got a problem. you just mail it to taurus and they mail it back to you in no time flat.

  • I have the 85 Ultra Lite -good revolver -no problems.

Have been using CCI shot shells for snake control around the farm.

Will shot shells damage the barrel and rifling grooves ???

  • if it can fit them its meant for em.

  • The soft lead shot in a plastic shot cup will not hurt your firearm whatsoever. I would recommend scrubbing the bore after use to remove plastic residue that may remain.

  • I am looking at buying the taurus 38 revoler for conceal carry but I would like to know if it has a lot of recoil to it and if it is very loud because I can't handle a lot of recoil and my son is afraid of loud noise and when I carry I don't want it to scare him when I have to use.

  • It i \s a small frame pistol, so it will have some kick to it, especially since the weapon is an ultralight too.

All weapons are pretty load unless you go with a .22 that only shoots 22 shorts.

If you would ever need to pull a weapon out to defend yourself or your family, I don't the the noise level will be over bothersome nor will the kick.

You may want to look into the Ruger LCP or the Kel-Tec P-3AT. Both fire the 380 round, very small 6+1 shot guns.

  • In a real world use situation you will never notice the recoil or the noise.

  • @dheading actually its not bad, i relly like it. its got some kick but its great, check out my channel and see my dad on the range with the 38 ul and pay attention to the vid and find out. i love that big spark of fire it spits out every time you fire.

  • @dheading I have to go with what runman1271 says but add if you ever have to use it for defense near your son, he's probably going to be afraid of what you'd have to use it for more than the noise.

  • would that taek sum one down if you shot them in the stomach from about 5 metres? wb

  • What do you recommend for a woman a .32 6 shot or a .38 5 shot. I know the recoil isn't as bad with the .32. But I want to know that if needed the gun will stop any intruder. thanks, Rena

  • The most important consideration is not caliber but comfort and accuracy. Either caliber can kill a bad guy, as can a .22. I would go to a shop and ask to handle a couple of different guns. Just buy what feels comfortable to you and you'll be in good shape.

  • I purchased a Taurus model 605SS2 5 shot .357mag. I had a bad primer get stuck in the frame and jam the cylinder in from moving. I understand it was the ammunition's fault however after I finally cleared the malfunction the cylinder and trigger seized. The only thing I can do with it now is thumb the hammer like it was an old single action revolver. Sent it in to Taurus and they could not find out what was wrong or how to fix. I'm a Glock fanboy now.

  • anyway, it is a close quarter weapon for CWP - and will do the job with hollow point - PERFECTLY !

    TAURUS makes GREAT guns....

  • ... meaning, becuse of the missing weight which usually stabilizes a gun - it jumps when fired - thus throwing accuracy off a bit. I aim a bit lower on the sight - then fires accurately.

  • Just bought- great gun -but because of its light weight has tendancy to not shoot accurately UNLESS you compensate. Have fired Taurus reg 38 five shot very

accurately. But GREAT CWP gun - for close quarters.

  • Hi, I'm getting this same Taurus next week. It will be my first gun. Why doesn't the Taurus say +P on the gun? Are the hollowpoint bullets you use offer the most stopping power for this Taurus? Also what is an inexpensive ammo to use at the range. Finally, am I correct that if the revolver misfires it just effects the one bullet and you can continue firing the remainder? Perhaps as opposed to a 9mm semi where a misfire jams the whole gun. Thanks, Ron

  • It doesn't say +P on the gun because they are duty rated for +P. The are fine to fire +P but are not designed for large volume +P range firing use.

  • do you work for taurus?

  • No,

but wotking for a gun manufacturer would be fun.

  • i had that gun till the whole cylinder fell out in two pieces so i got a model 29 .44 magnum

  • Taurus had product problems back in the early 90's , I am being told they are much better now so I am going to give an ultralight a try and see how it goes

  • i wouldnt risk my hard earned money for a taurus.

  • Your probably right, I guess I will shop around for a good 442 or something like it

  • people are bashing on taurus bcoz many people who own taurus may it be revolver or semi auto experience malfunctions with their taurus, thats a fact and you can read their complaints in other taurus forums.

  • dude i bought a taurus pt 92 and its ok... but why do some people bash on taurus?!?!?!?!??!

  • It's the American way... Mine is better than yours, mine is bigger than yours. Or, I paid too much for mine, therefore, I must put your down to make me feel better.

    You can also say ignorance.

  • never had a misfire but my wife did not like the kick as it is very light.

  • i have my brothers pt111 misfires on video i can upload it so you guys can view it. ill go to the range tomorrow and ill bring my camera with me so i can have my taurus m85 misfires on video incase it happens again.

  • my brother also bought a taurus pt111 2months ago. he doesnt carry it anymore cause he also experienced 3 misfires out of 200 rounds. i never thougt it would also happen to my taurus revolver . now my brother plans to buy an xd. we dont trust taurus anymore.

  • i just bought a taurus m85 2 days ago and i already had 4 misfires out of the 30 rounds. i shouldve bought a smith and wesson. i regret buying my taurus m85

  • Every now and then all companies make a mistake. Like i said, I have had no problems with mine. But if I had one that did not work, I would not carry it.

  • love that 38 snub..

  • my dad bought this for me for my birthday :) i love this pistol. it perfect since i'm only 13 it fits my hand and its easy for me to shoot.i'm dead on target with it

  • america is fucked up but goddamn i love it

  • i like the look of this gun, but i'd rather it be a .357 magnum with a spurless hammer :) really heavy trigger pull but spurless is nice for conceal and carry

  • I just saw the catalog at the Taurus website, nice line of handguns!! I'll get one of those.

  • i just orderd a taurus catalog ,i'm still waitng and am eager ,to see the whole line ...i own 1 taurus and am about to get another..i

    taurus reliable and affordable

  • much easier to carry than the S&W 500, but I still think it would be cool to carry the 500 if I were to own a revolver. I've got an M9 and the PT145, and I agree it feels nice having a .45 with hollow points

  • got a taurus millenium series 45 cal. compact w/ hollows don't carry ,no ccp

its stays on my night -stand by me at night waiting for the bad-guy to come up my stairs at night while i sleep next to my wife.... and i'm waiting for the day...!!!

  • just added a pt140 to the collection its my new conceal & carry

  • ya man i would definintely use it under adut sepervision my dad has been wanting to take me to shooting ranges but thanks

  • the button is the cylinder release, great little gun, given the overall size of it though I tend to prefer them with enclosed hammers or bobbed hammers for pocket carry.

  • I have the PT1911, It has the key too, I love my gun. Nice video.

  • hey what is the recoil like, in regards to a 13 yr old

  • Let me start as a responsible adult and say that I hope you are planning to use the gun under adult supervision.

My younger son is 13 and he has no problem with normal target loads (non +p loads). I do not shoot +p rounds through the gun.

  • if you carry the bone breakers, it will defenitly stop someone

  • you don't think a 38 has enough stopping power? i'm pretty sure most human beings would be pretty fucked if they were shot with a 38.

  • I do not believe that you can stop most people with one shot with the 38, but it is better than having nothing.

I normally carry the Taurus 45 auto with 10+1 hollow point for stopping power.

Nothing beates a good 45 at your side.

  • I have a titanium version with the ported barrel, I have had the weapon for 4-5 years and I love that little pistol.

I was also very impressed with the accuracy of the little gun, cant beat it for the money.

  • i dont wana destroy it. i mean i just want to know how durable it is. coz somepeople say it wont last like the heavier revlolvers. others say its disposable. is it true? this is my first time if ever im gnna buy a revolver so i want to have the best revolver that i can afford.

  • I have had mine for around 3 years now.

Fire it at the Range monthly, at least 50 rounds. I put at least 300 rounds through any gun I purchase for carrying and then another 200 a few days later before I consider carring the gun. It still works just fine. I still carry the gun frequently, (I carried it today and yesterday) I feel secure that the gun would function if I ever needed it to.

  • hi runman1271, do you think taurus ultralite will still be in good shape even after you spend so many rounds with it?its lightw8 but is it durable? i know its not a range gun but if ill carry it i have to practice with it. how many rounds do you think it will take before you destroy taurus ultralite?

  • how do you unscrew those factory rubber grips??? a friend of mine gave me these nea original taurus wood grips for snubnose .38s and i want to replace them.

  • I do not know

  • how do you take off the rubber grips. am thinking of buying the gun in a few days. funny thing is a friend of mine gave me a wooden grip for the model 85 and i intend to place them on the gun. he gave me these nice wood grips from taurus.

  • I have a slight problem I have a 686+ S&W 357 snubnose I bought some time back but it's too difficult to conceal. I'd like to trade outright for a 38 airweight either S&W or Tarus. Which in your experience do you think would be the better revolver? Looking for a hammerless 38 airweight style. I have a glock 27 but I'd prefer a smaller revolver, and no one wants to trade.

  • I have only used the Taurus. Taurus does make some hammerless. Taurus makes the Model 851, which is a 38 special, Taurus model 652 is a hammerless 357 mag.

I have never used one of these hammerless models eigther.

  • you should sell it to me what state you from

  • great review!

  • do I need to use 158gr/755fps ammunition for the Taurus .38 special ultra-lite or can I use any .38 special bullets? And which brands are the best?

  • For target practice, I pick up what ever Walmart is selling.

For carring the 38 special, I use the Speer Gold Dot 38 Special 135gr GDHP.

Not really sure what brands are "best". I carry Gold Dot because I like the data on the round.

Everyone will tell ya something different. Your better off doing your own research. I won't be carring your gun and protecting you.

Here is what I learned while in the Army:

You train like you are going to fight because you will fight like you are trained.

  • can it also use 357 bullets!!!

  • No, A 38 Special cannot use #%& bullets, but a 357 can use 38 bullets.

If you put a 357 round through this weapon, the weapon would suffer a catastrophic failure resulting in damage to the gun and bodily injury.

Taurus model 605 is a snub nose 357 revolver, and model number 617 is a 357 in titanium, weighs 19.9 ounces (empty weight) which is 1.1 ounces lighter than this 38 special Ultra lite model.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hmm - actually you can.

Both cartridges use the same .357" diameter bullet. The difference comes with the case & more so the max. pressure of the cartridge. So same bullets yes - same cartridge NO.

.357 Mag. & .38 Special are different calibers that use the same bullets. You can also use .38 cartridge in .357 mag gun but NOT .357mag cartridge in .38 gun.

And the part you need to push forward to unlock the sylinder is simply called thumb piece.

    Hope this helps some more.

  • Thanks for the help and information.
