Okay, I would like to say this to everyone who is hounding people about breeding cats and dogs with "Unnatural characteristics". They say it would give them an unfair disadvantage in the wild. Well, domesticating them gives them a disadvantage in the wild. Sure, domesticated cats and dogs have SOME of their natural instincts in the wild, but they lost almost all of them over the thousands of years of domesticating. So yeah, it happens to all of them.

Awww! Its sooo cute how he stands up for that long! I love all cats, but I can't say I'd ever own one of these. It seems sad to intentionally breed handicaps into them. You might say they can run and jump as far, but I wont believe for an instant that they can catch live wild prey as easily as a regular cat.

This little guy looks like a dwarf cat. These poor things are breed with legs half the size of that of a normal cat ON PURPOSE. This is just not an accident of nature, it was us humans the ones to create them. They cannot run or jump properly and are prone to early deaths. This is just not fair at all on these poor guys... may look cute but I think it's too cruel to breed them like that... Just my opinion...(by the by I have 3 cats)

@Khatirana They aren't prone to health problems or early deaths. They can run just as fast, and jump just as high as other cats. They were originally bred from a stray cat discovered with short legs. We didn't genetically screw around with them. The only thing is, when you breed two of them together, there's a 25% chance for each kitten to be stillborn. It happens because receiving the gene for the short legs from both parents causes the kitten to be non-viable.

I've volunteered with a veterinarian, as well as spent time with munchkin cats and normal cats. I've also done research on the subject of munchkin cats to ensure it is ethical. What you call "common sense" is, in reality, a poor assumption. Yes, their legs are shorter, but they can still jump just as high as any other cat. The can run as fast. It is not a matter of the length of their legs; it's the muscle. Are you going to tell me short people can't run as fast as tall people?
