Japanese voices and music are still the best. As far as dubs, I prefer Ocean's Vegeta but Ocean's music was terrible here. Idk if they changed composers since the first time they dubbed DBZ but this was worse than Bruce Faulconer's and his wasn't really that good to begin with.
@DeathGodKnight They had no budget for music since Saban pulled out, so they just reused music produced for Ocean's Monster Rancher dub. I watched MR long before DBZ and only recently rewatched it and found this out.
@fromspaceandjocelyn I used to watch MR so many years ago. I think they only dubbed one season, or at least they only syndicated one season here. I didn't know Saban was involved in that. Power Rangers had some good music so it is plausible. That's sad they ran outta cash. What's worse is they could have saved so much money and just went with the Jap OST.

truth is, drummond is a better voice actor than sabat, maybe sabat's voice suits vegeta more, but drummond is the better actor. his screams especially out class sabat's.
Personally I find Vegeta's voice in this dub a little dark, cocky and snidely. I don't feel the one in the other dubs suit him. They make him sound like he is 6'7" and about 350lbs! Just my personal opinion. Also being in the UK this was the version that was on CNX/Toonami so I'm probably a little biased.

@iviAiLMaNxX A company called ABGroupe contracted them to do these episodes. Also there was a popular demand for the Vancouver cast when it changed to FUNimation back in 99. But the Ocean dub episodes from 108 to 276(291) were never released cuz either A. FUNi didn't want a competing release or B. ABGroupe never bothered to release them.
Can people stop using the ''I grew up with this dub'' excuse! Just because this was the first one you saw, doesn't mean it's the best. Brian makes Vegeta sound constipated and Krillin sounds like a fucking high pitched monkey. The only good voice was Frieza's. So Funimation wins.

I seriously still can't see where you're going with this.
2. At the time DBZ was the most popular and watched show on American Television regarding anime. It is what paved the road for other animes such as rurouni kenshin and yu yu hakusho to be dubbed. They never once cancelled the show.

I lost a lot of respect for Funimation when I heard that. Stephanie Nadolny had been working for them for over 10 years now and they dropped her for someone who doesn't even have the same experience and sounds terrible.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course but your opinion isn't the last word. You might prefer one dub, but I prefer a mix and match of both. Both sides have great VAs that just fit the characters. For example, Sean Schemmel is the perfect Goku. Being that Ocean never gave Goku one voice actor and changed it every season, Ocean's Goku never sounded the same which ruined it. However your opinion of Brian Drummond's Vegeta is how I feel of Chris Sabat.

Funi Kai is near to the same level as Ocean because Funi actors are now more experienced, before they were amateurs and they admit it in their interviews. The only time I saw DBZ sodes with this dub was the 30some odd sodes that were on Toonami before they aired the rest of the series with different dubbing. Those were the good old days. God, I miss Toonami.
Dragonball Z is not only the coolest anime in history. But it teaches so many brilliant life concepts that you can apply.
In Vegeta's case. It teaches that one doesn't have to be born with greatness to be great. That with practice and the right concsious, one can be made into greatness, such as Goku.
It also teaches that you can evolve into greater things if you can simply disregard your ''ego''.

As much as Ocean Dub ruled the roost from the very start till the Freeza saga - it just lost a SHIT LOAD of, what seems like, people giving a crap, from Cell onwards, Maybe even halfway through the freeza saga. Ian James Corlett leaving screwed it up. I think Brian Drummond let it slip. But on his worst day, he's 10 times Sabat's superior on that man's best day!

Theres alot of things i like about Ocean dub over the funimation. Like Scott Mcneil for example, who is fucking awesome as piccolo. But theres also alot of things i like about Funimation. Especially the music. Falconer is awesome. damnit, i wish i could have a voice actor option for every character on the dvd.
The only reason folks say Ocean Dub sucks is because it's just not what their used to. There's a Big difference between 'Bad' and 'Not what I'm used to'. Heck most folks who say this don't even like DBZKai.
Just remember that these were the original voices that Funi used in the 1st two seasons & 1st three movies and no one complains about that. And the reason Ocean Dub exists is because not everyone liked Funi dub.
If Funi kept using these voices then everyone would love these voices more.
Though I am sorry to say it doesn't iron out morons on youtube that still go looking for videos related to a dub they hate; the first clip they watch should be enough to say; "This dub isn't for you" but yet they look for more just so they can complain. I saw one person ridicule Ocean on one video; then I went to another and I saw that same person ranting. I'm all for opinions but some people need to get a life instead of repeating themselves on every ocean video they find :/

@SwayWithTheAK Yes, because when ocean ruled, the beginning of the series didn't have enough audience so ocean didn't see why they should have continued dubbing so they cancelled the show. Later Funimation came in and people wanted to see dragonball z and funimation was the only one with an english dub, that's why they were picked over ocean, who didn't have their own dub from rest of the series. I seriously still can't see where you're going with this.

2. At the time DBZ was the most popular and watched show on American Television regarding anime. It is what paved the road for other animes such as rurouni kenshin and yu yu hakusho to be dubbed. They never once cancelled the show.

It's got nothing to do with one dub being better than the other. Funimation are the only ones allowed to release dvds and dub videogames because LEGALLY no one else can.

@SwayWithTheAK Honestly, it's probably true. Apparently Funimation dropped a lot of their own voice actors before dubbing Kai and hired some new ones because they were apparently "better" suited. Even though the new voice actors are fucking god awful.
I lost a lot of respect for Funimation when I heard that. Stephanie Nadolny had been working for them for over 10 years now and they dropped her for someone who doesn't even have the same experience and sounds terrible.

@DRKBULLETX They only sound terrible to you and so many others because you're not used to them. It's the same reason why you get so many ignorant little kids on youtube flaming ocean videos simply because the voices are different from what they know.
Everybody is biased to what they heard first and unfortunately because funimation hold the exclusive rights to sell DVDs and dub the games that's what most people including the new generation have have only been exposed to.

@123nitro Well I am used to them because I actually grew up with Ocean and switched to Funi later on. Ocean now sounds childish to me. Like voice acting dedicated for a kid's show. I know it's all opinionated.
The new voices for some of the characters in Kai just don't fit the characters. I'm not the only one who thinks this. Even people who like Ocean dub have said that the new voices don't fit.

@SwayWithTheAK Funimation wasn't a "powerful corporation" when they first did Dragonball Z, hence the reason they had to hire cheap local voice actors instead of the professional ocean cast once they lost funding from Saban. I don't think they ever saw their own cast as superior judging from how many times they've re-dubbed the same anime. Obviously they wouldn't switch back the voice actors now since that would just be a bad business move because it would confused people more.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course but your opinion isn't the last word. You might prefer one dub, but I prefer a mix and match of both. Both sides have great VAs that just fit the characters. For example, Sean Schemmel is the perfect Goku. Being that Ocean never gave Goku one voice actor and changed it every season, Ocean's Goku never sounded the same which ruined it. However your opinion of Brian Drummond's Vegeta is how I feel of Chris Sabat.

Then I rediscovered Ocean and most VAs are better than the Funimation version, Vegeta, Piccolo, Kid Gohan, Goku (first two actors). I didn't use the "I grew up with this dub" excuse. Funi Kai is near to the same level as Ocean because Funi actors are now more experienced, before they were amateurs and they admit it in their interviews. At least Vegeta doesn't sound like a 50 year old, if your being that ignorant.

The only time I saw DBZ sodes with this dub was the 30some odd sodes that were on Toonami before they aired the rest of the series with different dubbing. Those were the good old days. God, I miss Toonami.

Dragonball Z is not only the coolest anime in history. But it teaches so many brilliant life concepts that you can apply.
In Vegeta's case. It teaches that one doesn't have to be born with greatness to be great. That with practice and the right concsious, one can be made into greatness, such as Goku.
It also teaches that you can evolve into greater things if you can simply disregard your ''ego''.

As much as Ocean Dub ruled the roost from the very start till the Freeza saga - it just lost a SHIT LOAD of, what seems like, people giving a crap, from Cell onwards, Maybe even halfway through the freeza saga. Ian James Corlett leaving screwed it up. I think Brian Drummond let it slip. But on his worst day, he's 10 times Sabat's superior on that man's best day!

Theres alot of things i like about Ocean dub over the funimation. Like Scott Mcneil for example, who is fucking awesome as piccolo. But theres also alot of things i like about Funimation. Especially the music. Falconer is awesome. damnit, i wish i could have a voice actor option for every character on the dvd.

The only reason folks say Ocean Dub sucks is because it's just not what their used to. There's a Big difference between 'Bad' and 'Not what I'm used to'. Heck most folks who say this don't even like DBZKai.
Just remember that these were the original voices that Funi used in the 1st two seasons & 1st three movies and no one complains about that. And the reason Ocean Dub exists is because not everyone liked Funi dub.
If Funi kept using these voices then everyone would love these voices more.

Though I am sorry to say it doesn't iron out morons on youtube that still go looking for videos related to a dub they hate; the first clip they watch should be enough to say; "This dub isn't for you" but yet they look for more just so they can complain. I saw one person ridicule Ocean on one video; then I went to another and I saw that same person ranting. I'm all for opinions but some people need to get a life instead of repeating themselves on every ocean video they find :/
